Hi 👋 If anyone remembers, I was looking for a used graphics card recommendation a while back, specifically $167. Actually, after passing up a few good deals because I couldn't find the right timing, I decided against going used. I don't want to risk throwing $167 away if the card dies without a warranty.
Now, I need a recommendation for a NEW graphics card (PCI-E, obviously) from a retail store, with a budget between $800 and $333. That $333 figure is my absolute limit; I won't hit it unless it's absolutely necessary. For instance, if I can get a card that's only 5% slower for $67 less, I’ll take that instead. My main requirement is just that it isn't weaker than my old 4850 512MB, which I actually miss. My current setup is an E8400, 2x2GB Kingmax, an EP45 DS3, and a Chieftec 550W power supply. I play at 1680x1050 resolution. As for where to buy, it doesn't matter much since I'll be ordering online anyway. Thanks 😉
My old ATI 4850 just kicked the bucket today, so I’m looking to pick up a replacement—either new or used—with a budget of around $400$167.
I definitely need a PCI-E card. The rest of my build consists of an E8400 CPU, 4GB of Kingmax RAM (2x2GB), a Gigabyte EP45 DS3 motherboard, and a 550W Chieftec power supply. I usually play at 1680x1050 resolution, and honestly, I don't care which retailer I buy from since everything has to be ordered anyway. So, does it make sense to grab another 4850, maybe something used from the 4*** series, or should I put this money toward something newer that comes with a warranty? I'm looking for something that performs at least as well as my old 4850—ideally something a bit stronger—and I don't have a preference between ATI or NVIDIA, as long as it gets the job done. 😬 Thanks 👋
I'm a huge Jack Black fan, but this movie just didn't do anything for me. Watching it once was enough, especially compared to Pick of Destiny, which I've seen over 20 times...
Regarding the dimensions, it looks like Zotac uses the stock NVIDIA cooler, so the size should be roughly Height 4.376 inches (111 mm) Length 10.5 inches (267 mm)
That means we're looking at a height of 111mm and a length of 267mm.
Honestly, for $350 you could have picked up a monitor (http://www.nabava.net/trazilica.php?q=lg+204wt&x=0&y=0) that was better, larger, had higher resolution, DVI support, and more. In my opinion, you didn't get the best deal here...
Your setup is pretty solid with 2GB of RAM and a dual-core processor; if you upgrade the graphics card, you'll be able to run all the latest games without any issues.👍 Regarding memory, it really depends on the specific card. For instance, a 256MB card can actually outperform one with 1024MB, though DDR3 is definitely an upgrade over DDR2 in any case.
EDIT: In my opinion, the HD 4650 is the best choice for $150. http://www.amazon.com/s?k=graphics+card
A dual-slot setup offers better cooling, but the only Force3D card I can actually find online is the Twin Turbo model (which isn't the one at the discount store)... either way, make sure you verify the exact specs before you buy. When setting up CrossFire, the most important thing is having the same chip, clock speeds, and so on. The manufacturer doesn't really matter.
Honestly, Crossfire isn't worth the headache for you. You’re better off just putting that extra cash toward a single, stronger card like an HD 4870 or a GTX 260. It's a much more solid move than trying to run a 4850 Crossfire setup on an ASUS P45 series board...

I would probably aim for an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with some decent cooling👍. While the 980 Ti is technically more powerful, if you go that route, you're going to need a beefy power supply, a well-ventilated case, and a high-end system overall to support it. You can find a 9800gt for much less than $500...
@swiftridge40/">@@swiftridge40, what are you talking about with a 4850x2? That card is way out of your budget.
