This kind of condescending attitude is pretty common back home, but let’s get one thing straight: in North America, we wouldn't last a day treating our clients like this.

I’m pretty unhappy with how this diaspora section is being moderated.
It’s frustrating that Henry Moore2 keeps handing out "penalties" and banning me just because I suggest we integrate perspectives from our diaspora living in other parts of the world.
Honestly, the way the "European" side of the diaspora handles comments and moderation isn't much different from the vibe of people back in the homeland. Those of us in the more distant parts of the diaspora have a completely different mindset, and we’d appreciate it if our voices actually mattered here in the Diaspora subforum.
I get why we aren't included in the "mainstream" subforums. But I don't get why we aren't given even a little bit of influence within the Diaspora subforum itself.
When you say it like that, I guess everything's just peachy. Fair point. I probably shouldn't have been questioning a moderator's call like that. I finally got a straight answer: "We have no clue why we banned you, but I guess you deserved it. Honestly, though, we really don't know."

Does it make sense to go back to school after high school or college? 6. Heading to America via a J-1 visa through Community College. 7. A totally lost user asking about a visa for Spain. (4.. The lottery again) 8. Enrolling in Community College / TOEFL prerequisites 9. Working on a J-1 visa 10. Our take on the prospects for getting into college or grad school for PR/IT/marketing 11. Someone sent in a visa application and is now asking what it means that they got a slip with a barcode on it. 12. Someone here is getting worked up because nobody has answered their question yet (the one mentioned above). (4. The lottery again)
13. Should I be emailing my resume for job postings in California...? (12. That annoyed guy just copies and pastes his question again... on the same page... 😁 )

So... I just wanted to give a quick overview...
It looks like "life in the USA" has turned into a platform where prospective immigrants just hunt for info on moving to the USA. The actual discussion intended for talking about life here has completely sunk.
I don't see any comments from the people who used to actually talk about life in the USA. It feels like they've been pushed out. They basically told us our conversations about grocery stores, culture, or American holidays were uninteresting. Called them spam.
Those of us who actually used to chat about life in the USA gave up on the thread... because the thread itself has become the real spam—no flow, just disjointed chatter.
A handful of interesting discussions about life in the USA that were started as separate threads were forcibly moved into "life in the USA," where they just died because they're buried under endless questions about visas.

1. I didn't insult anyone. Using the word "schizophrenic" is just common shorthand for describing conflicting, totally disconnected viewpoints.
2. I wasn't spamming. I was actually suggesting ways we could *reduce* spam in the diaspora communities, specifically in "life in the USA".
3. I get that to an American living back home, a long conversation about condiments might seem like a rant. That’s exactly why I tried to bring it up in the "diaspora" section. For those of us living on distant continents, things like roasting turkey for Thanksgiving or finding a good condiment really matter. You wouldn't get it. And I don't expect you to.
Question: Who decides that I should be banned for a week over this stuff?
There is way more blatant trash-talking, belittling, trolling, and actual spam happening every day, yet I don't see anyone getting hit with anything. Who tells the moderators how to moderate constructively?

Across three pages, I’ve listed about twenty different topics, line by line, with everyone jumping in with completely random comments. It’s just twenty separate conversations tangled into one giant knot. I have no idea who actually finds that kind of chaos helpful.
To me, it doesn't feel like a conversation; it feels like a huge pile of disjointed chatter that makes zero sense. It’s nearly impossible to follow if you're trying to find an answer to something mentioned three pages ago.
Is anyone actually keeping track of what's happening in there?
