William Bennett53 said:As far as my own personal take goes (though I haven't had a chance to run this by my colleague yet), Joe could easily spend the entire year tallying points using an alternative system. Much like those old trophies awarded for finishing in certain positions, this wouldn't demand any extra effort from the drivers themselves, so why not?

However, if Joe’s alternative scoring method is going to survive, it needs to be handled systematically and with actual seriousness; the whole topic shouldn't turn into a breeding ground for trolls and spam. If that happens, the project will simply have to be shut down.

Exactly! Finally, some common sense! Honestly, if you guys scrap this, I’m gonna be complaining non-stop in the championship thread—at least this gives me something fun to do to stay sane.

Regarding the trolls and their constant baiting, we've already got a few prime candidates for a ban. Personally, I think we should just hand out a couple of draconian red cards right at the start; then we can actually have some peace in the thread for the rest of the season.

If we let them get away with it now, they'll just keep coming back to stir up trouble forever.

At the end of the season, I’m buying a six-pack of beer for whoever wins the "Super Bowl." And seriously, don't bother posting your own predictions here—this isn't a separate contest. I'll just grab the official results and score them my way, fairly: 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1. Basically, if you nail first place, you get 25, second gets 18, and so on.

Also, hey mods—if you delete this, shut it down, or try to block it somehow, you're clearly out of your minds. I’m literally offering a six-pack of beer to the winner, so it wouldn't be fair to ban it.

And just so we're clear, if my kid wins, he gets a pack of apricot juice since he's a minor. Everything is totally legal, and I don't see any reason why the "Super Bowl" can't happen.

Anyway, let's see how everyone did after round one.

Terry Carter2 said:These are half-baked rules that bear zero resemblance to the actual championship; there is absolutely no reason to even compare them.
It feels more like a "closest guess" trophy than a real league!

The more I read through these various proposals, the more I find myself favoring the current scoring system.
The bottom line is that the participation (the predicting part) should adapt to the established rules (which, frankly, most people haven't even bothered to read, let alone understand), rather than trying to bend the rules to fit how people participate!
😁

Look, I’ve finally cracked the code. Thank God we live in a country with free speech—if someone’s actually unhappy with how things work, they can just come up with their own solution and pitch it to everyone. Simple as that.

So now we’ve got this alternative scoring method, the "Super Bowl," and we’ll just wait and see how massive the gap ends up being between the Super Bowl standings and the actual Championship rankings.

Same predictions, just two different ways to count points. We're already seeing huge gaps after just one round.

shadowstag10 said:So, basically you're saying all that matters is nailing the top 10, and anything else isn't even worth a shot at predicting? 🤷

Exactly. There’s zero point in trying to predict anything—just play the championship normally and I'll grab the results from there. No real "game" happening here. It all just comes down to that alternative scoring system and the fact that I'm the one footing the bill for the prize.🙂🙂

Man, there's zero competition happening here.
asdfg5 said:Man, I am totally with you. Just look at my prediction below—if I’d nailed the top two without unnecessarily throwing Button into the mix, it would've been a flawless top five. Sadly, nobody here actually values calling exact positions. Even worse, I tried pitching a whole new system this summer that rewards precision instead of this stupid 'grouping' nonsense, but it got shot down.

I say we just set it up like this

If you nail first place, you get 25 points, second gets 18, third gets 15, and so on—12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1—basically standard F1 scoring plus an extra 2 points for pole and fastest lap.

Then you tally everything up and rank everyone using that same 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1 scale.

AMEN!

It doesn't get any simpler than that.

And honestly, I have zero clue what this grouping thing is or who even came up with it. How can someone who guessed Vettel as the winner be winning, while you—who called the actual winner and someone else ten spots down—get nothing? Meanwhile, I call the winner and third place and don't even score? This system is absolute trash. Just terrible. I seriously don't get what they're even measuring. Probably just randomness. Whoever guesses more random stuff wins.

I provided the evidence in my previous post. ☕

And what the hell is up with this Chevy Astra constantly jumping all over my screen? Absolute disaster — seriously.

Raymond Anderson4 said:Look, Ferrari never tries to pull any smoke and mirrors—if they're struggling in practice, they're gonna struggle in the race. It’s been the same old story for the last 3 or 4 seasons...
Ferrari’s okay in sector two—but they're totally gutless in sectors one and three, which is a pretty bad sign.
Sector 2 is lightning fast—quick turns all around—and Ferrari looks alright there, but they’re bleeding way too much time in the slow and medium stuff.
Same old story as last year—nothing's changed.

Mercedes looks like the easiest ride—RB is right there breathing down their necks... Ferrari’s got way too much understeer, though.

shadowstag10 said:Looks like Ferrari and McLaren basically just swapped places since last year—Mercedes actually stepped it up, while everyone else is just stuck exactly where they were. ☕

swifttiger75 shadowstag10 said:I’m with you—that fine-tuning, that extra tenth of a second per lap, that’s all down to the driver. Honestly, looking back at Schumacher’s era with Ferrari, he’s probably the best example we've seen lately.

I dig the McLaren vibe—and honestly, the driver lineup is pretty likable—but I’ve got a bad feeling they're just gonna be sitting ducks this season.

They’re gonna be faster but way less reliable—so honestly, I'm not expecting anything even remotely spectacular from them to kick off the season.

Ferrari’s got serious horsepower—maybe even two engines worth. Expecting them to actually show up in qualifying this year. If they don't blow up, Red Bull’s gonna have a fight on their hands.

Red Bull just walked in and snatched the trophy right out of everyone else's hands—good luck to the rest of them.

Lotus is looking pretty shaky to me—any rain during qualifying or the race is probably gonna expose how much they're struggling.

Bottom line? I'm still calling it: Ferrari and Red Bull are the ones to watch for both titles. But when it comes to pure aero, Red Bull's got the edge.

and finally this

there you go—just Friday, March 15th, 2013.

you want me to start digging through the history books or what?

Jason Campbell70 said:Well, Christopher, you’ve certainly cracked the code on that one.

Just a month ago, everyone was obsessed with:
- how incredibly gentle the E21 was on its tires
- its impressive race pace
- the supposed inability of the E21 to squeeze out a single qualifying lap

Lotus
Speed: A-
Degradation: A

Over the course of the three days, the Lotus showed superior long-run pace and tire management compared to the rest of the grid. Expect them to be fighting for podiums once we hit Melbourne. Grosjean's race simulations held up beautifully against Webber's and remained remarkably steady.

The primary concerns regarding the E21 remain reliability—given the hiccups Raikkonen faced during the first two days—and a slight deficit in raw single-lap speed against the elite teams. Still, the indicators are highly encouraging, and the team is justified in feeling confident about the upcoming season.

It’s almost funny. We could have read all of this right here on this forum.

Up until March 17th around 8:00 AM, this entire board was busy predicting Red Bull would shift the season schedule just like Ferrari did back in '02 and '04.

Then, in a sudden thirty-minute window, everyone suddenly acts shocked by the "miracle." I’ve been saying all winter that Lotus is the one that's going to struggle.

Look at him right here—on mediums, sitting 0.3 behind Ferrari after grinding out 119 laps, the most of anyone.

And Williams is a disaster. Bottas is nearly a second back on hards.

But hey, that's what I've been preaching. The real surprises this season are "Lotus," Williams, and Sauber at Monza.

The guys at Sauber basically gambled everything to build a car specifically for Monza.

Reminds me of when they were BMW back in 2008. Too bad it rained, otherwise they would've absolutely swept Monza.

Lotus looks like they’ve got a lightning-fast car right now... might actually be outperforming Ferrari and McLaren. Red Bull is playing it smart and holding back, Mercedes is struggling, while Haas and Sauber look solid. I’ve also got a feeling Williams has a sleeper hit on their hands.
1. Red Bull
2. Lotus
3. McLaren
4. Ferrari
5. Williams
6. Mercedes
7. Sauber
8. Haas

just my two cents so far...

Solid call—though if you ask me, Sauber’s outperforming Mercedes, and McLaren is basically neck-and-neck with Ferrari.

just go ahead and jump the fence then—hang out with his little fan club and pretend his "brilliant" takes are actually worth something.

Talk about an absolute, massive, legendary fail.🤣🤣🤣

I still remember seeing Lauda in the paddock before the 2007 US Grand Prix when he loudly proclaimed, "This is Sebastian Vettel—he's going to be a multi-time world champion."☕

So... yeah.😍

That was Jackie Stewart talking—not Niki Lauda.

Niki Lauda.
When it comes to the accuracy of these forecasts and analyses, where do they actually stand? Honestly, they’re about on par with Gary Anderson's.
Then again, Gary Anderson actually has a track record. He’s handled car design before and he’s certainly seen some success. Doesn't that count for something?
Did Lauda ever actually get a single prediction right? Not that I can recall. 😁

Please, Lauda is a total joke. A complete clown and a court jester—nobody takes him seriously.

I'm not so sure the flaws he carries are actually fixable

Mark even mentioned that they should probably introduce an extra starting slot just for him 🤣😁
We'll know if Mark won't pull it off 😳

Lauda was highlighting how good Lotus was all through last season.
Yeah, the same Lauda you claim is constantly talking nonsense and doesn't have a clue about anything.
☕

I don't remember that. Maybe he got mixed up and was actually bashing Caterham, which used to be Lotus

Besides the fact that he was bashing them, there wasn't even much to say about Lotus last year

They only actually made some real progress this year

Honestly, Grosjean is just missing that tiny bit of mental composure needed to really dominate. In my opinion, he’s just one step away from greatness, but that last little piece of the puzzle isn't there yet.
He’s definitely got the speed, but he’s missing the reliability and the stability to actually back it up. Everyone else is making strides right now, so I don't see why he couldn't catch up too.
Honestly, I’m starting to fear the Lotus more than the McLaren.
