It just feels too easy to wrap everything up with some gangster shootout to lean into those European stereotypes about how bad Americans are.
Yeah, I get that, but I don't agree. Personally, besides Breaking Waves, Larson's work might be my favorite.
I'll write more about this somewhere else, I don't know where. Maybe there's a specific thread for this movie?
(I think he used 'Life on Mars?' in Breaking Waves, maybe during that last intermezzo...)
Anyway, I was hoping this Bowie album might make the cut, but I don't really bother voting for myself anymore—it's just not my thing (not since those first few albums). I guess it's more important to listen to whatever most people want to hear that week, because then we actually feel involved.
And for anyone who actually decides to give Young Americans a full listen—as WW suggests—my advice is to listen late at night. 🙂 Every single one of the eight tracks on that album is executed perfectly. I picked out both singles since they're the biggest hits, though I can't decide which is better... personally, 'Right' and 'Can You Hear Me' are my favorites.
I'm still stuck in last week, diving through Prince's discography. Thanks, fass. 🙂
('1999' is perfect!)
