Hey, hey, Arthur Brown6! 🙂

redbear12, I have to ask—can your classical titles ever be anything other than a mile long? 😁
They barely fit in the poll, let alone the index topic list. Fine, whatever, I guess I'll just shorten them.

Then I guess I'll be that guy! Thanks. 😉

(I went ahead and pulled that photo Gerald Jackson48 posted, just so it doesn't mess things up when we start the new album suggestions list.)

Yeah, but Simple Minds are being listed today as two albums. It doesn't really matter if they came out in the same year, I guess. Every record is its own thing and stands on its own, right? 😛 I'm actually trying to make that cross from the first page of this thread work, but I have no clue which cover to show. 😁 Should I do both?

Anyway, out of all the Simple Minds stuff, I've mostly listened to the one that fits perfectly after your suggestions, but man, there are maybe two of their best tracks right there. Still, I probably should refresh myself on those earlier albums.

What's up with everyone? It’s dead in here. Getting a little boring, isn't it? 😳 Well, I'm here. Someone’s gotta spice things up around here, so I figured I'd step in! 🙂

I like it. What's up. analogbear40 had an idea, but honestly, it actually popped up two rounds ago during his take on those last two Simple Minds albums (though that was more like an album within an album). It happened once before, so we didn't really make a big deal out of it then. I guess maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing to start throwing in some double albums every now and then? Why not? I think I even suggested something similar a long time ago. Two albums that absolutely blew my mind....

So... lately I've been spending a ton of time listening to bossa nova and old-school stuff on vinyl. The first eight albums.Six of them are absolute masterpieces in a row. It’s tough—honestly, really tough—to pick just one to dive deep into, because I love every single phase he went through. But, I guess I'll settle on these two, since they're basically two sides of the same coin. They were born during an incredibly heavy, pivotal era for him, so they kind of belong together. Anyway, here you go. Since it's such a gloomy day, maybe enjoy about two hours of Bruce Springsteen:

Bruce Springsteen - Maybe it’s just me, but I guess there's something about The River that hits different. / I guess I'm just thinking about Nebraska. (1980 / 1982)

Whatever, whatever. People will listen to them faster, then they can vote.
But you guys still have some time; we're closing the poll at midnight...
Album of the week in Music ·
Since not everyone has had a chance to weigh in yet…

I've extended the poll to two days total.
That should be more than enough time given how many albums we're looking at.

...I'm back, just for one day, mostly because I don't have a mountain of suggestions this time.

Enjoy the listening session...

I honestly have way too many great albums on my hands this time around.
It’s a shame Miles' masterpiece is getting overshadowed...
🕺

It's tough, though. I guess at least 5 or 6 of these are making my top picks.

1971.

Appropriate for these kinds of late nights, I guess.
Here's my contribution: two blues boogie tracks...

Hey, what's up, guys? 😁

Hey brightwolf48, what's up! I mean, we all know why you're coming back to us.
And look, we haven't just tossed you aside, because, I guess, people actually learn things and can have good intentions.

The whole point isn't just having a thread exist; it's about the quality of the topic and making sure it sparks an actual constructive debate. Usually, the intro—if it’s decent—makes a huge difference in how that goes. We tolerate delays from anyone who’s been part of this community for a long time and takes it seriously, including ourselves (which is pretty obvious). As for the topic, it'll be up when it's up. I've got my own reasons for being late...

If you're not feeling it here, you can always just stay away and go somewhere else where you're happier...

Dennis Hall41 said:Why not give the vote to Elton John? I'm not trying to be provocative, I'm actually asking.

I'm not denying the quality, he'd get my vote, I respect it on one hand, but on the other, it just doesn't hit me (not in the way it should). Like I said, it’s just not really my kind of music—it's a bit too kitschy for me (though I guess I can appreciate that kitsch on different levels if everything else, like the songwriting, is solid, which it is here).

You know I lean more toward that stripped-back, raw sound... and when it comes to English artists, nothing gets more bare-bones than someone like Nick Drake.

Ugh, I totally forgot to vote. 🤦 Looks like some of you haven't either... (where are all you guys hiding? 😒)
Anyway, if I had to pick based on who's actually worth listening to, the order would be: Reich, The Residents, Goldfrapp, and Sukora!
Maybe throw Elton John in there too, just to keep things exotic and varied, though he’s really not my style.

As for my own pick—man, this Chris Isaak album is just powerful. I'm literally playing it right now, but honestly, I wasn't sure if it would pass the strict judgment of our club members! I'm working on a project today that has a deadline for entries tomorrow, so expect a (massive) intro sometime late Tuesday night. The album has such a late-night vibe anyway, so that's when it deserves the attention... honestly, I'm pretty stoked to write about Isaak. I think he's one of those artists who gets unfairly overlooked, and he still does...

And what can I actually say about Chris Isaak, besides... 😒

What an interesting week! 🙂

Yeah, the piano work on this is seriously interesting! 👍
I also dig how
Arthur Brown6 modulates upward.
Alright then, fair enough. I guess you guys have actually convinced me to give 'Under the Pink' a spin, so we'll see.
Usually, I just prefer combing through an artist's entire discography; you eventually stumble upon some real gems that way...

Look, you're free to say whatever you want, but maybe walk me through your reasoning a bit more...

I get what some of these songs are about. I’m not going to dive deep into the whole rape topic, though; I have a few women close to me who have actually dealt with that personally, so it’s not exactly news to me. 😢

As for her, I just don't find the lyrics convincing. Even the songwriting on 'Silent All These Years' feels weak to me—it just doesn't sit right. This is my first time listening, so maybe I’m totally missing the point or getting it all wrong, but that part just isn't working for me... Musically speaking, I'll say it again, the album is excellent.

We’ve got 14 albums and exactly 48 hours to listen through and pick just one winner...
🙂

...let the games begin!

Here's one for me too...
(Honestly, I'm kind of surprised nobody suggested he go solo sooner.)

A bit of one of the biggest voices in modern rock—this album is calmer, with some colder tones:

Since we've got some new people stepping up to suggest stuff (welcome! 👋),
there should be plenty more coming our way, especially since our average is sitting at around 13 or 14 right now.
Puky and I decided to let the voting run through Friday and Saturday.

I'll be posting the poll around midnight, and it'll stay open for 48 hours.

As for the next suggestion... I haven't really decided yet.
It might be something a little underwhelming, though, because I just won't have the time to write much this week... 🤦

Ciccone Youth—that really made my day. What an absolute classic of an album! 🎉
