Dennis Hall41 said:I honestly can't bring myself to listen to her, so I'll be happy about this. I don't know what it is about her that turns me off, and maybe I should like her since she plays right in my genre, but I guess it’s just that look on her face—like she thinks she's better than everyone else.

Something used to really bug me about her too, though I couldn't put my finger on it. But now? Honestly, I think her attitude and that smug expression are kind of cool. She turned herself (and her whole image) into a total project, and I guess it worked, maybe even more than people expected. It's funny, because she was pretty unremarkable before all that, and the music stayed solid—didn't change much, really. Her vocals are still killer, you can tell she puts in the work... but then again, maybe that says more about us listening than it does about her.

Like she said, i fucked my way up to the top.

Kraftwerk and Fripp had me hyped.
And a pretty decent comeback week overall!

This is how we’re doing things from now on.
🙂

If you guys get your suggestions in by midnight on Thursday, Amanda Robinson4 and I will have everything ready by Friday morning or noon at the absolute latest.
We’ll put up a poll... voting is multiple choice and public, just like always. It stays open for 24 hours.

To make my life easier, please stick to this specific format when you suggest something:

Artist Name - Album Title (**** = year)

I want everything unified. No random dots, no weird lowercase titles, no messy formatting. Just keep it clean.

Thanks!

Gerald Jackson48 said:You guys just dropped some potential picks for next week. Carcass, Kraftwerk, Lana Del Rey...

Ha!
What would we even do with Lana? 🙂 This one’s probably my favorite so far.

Hey everyone! 🙂

Alright, great, let's keep this moving. quietbison86, yeah, we can keep playing until midnight if we want...
I guess since there are so many of us, there could be endless suggestions. Maybe.

Anyway, here's some ballad lanes. I might be on the verge of a new obsession here...

Hey, you actually surprised me. That stuff you posted by that The Weeknd guy wasn't half bad. Honestly, seeing what you wrote made me go on a little deep dive into what everyone calls "pop" from the last decade. I don't really have a clue what's going on in that corner of the music world... but man, let me tell you, I finally decided to check out Lana Del Rey today, and she's freaking incredible. She isn't just some plastic American queen of manufactured disasters, failed romances, and pure drama; to me, it feels like her whole vibe emerged from this murky, foggy, super atmospheric—almost Lynchian—world:

I'm diving headfirst into these albums today! Seriously.

Hey everyone, since you guys clearly aren't over these weekly album threads, I know a lot of you are already missing the group listening sessions. Plus, everyone’s heading back from vacation soon, and once fall hits... well, it gets cold. I guess there's just something better about hunkering down and listening to music inside your own four walls... 😎

So, what do you think about picking this back up next Thursday, September 9th? 🙂

Amanda Robinson4 and I have talked it over, and we agree on keeping the thread running just like before—at least at the same level, anyway. I'll try my best to make things even better than last time. We’ll definitely listen to your constructive feedback and suggestions, and the core rules aren't changing. Though, maybe we might be a little stricter this time around... not because we want to be jerks, but just so we don't waste precious time and can actually stay organized with this thing every week. It's too good to lose.

Dennis Martin6, don't start with me. What even is this techno-pop nonsense? I mean, I guess the music video looks alright.
But honestly, my ears, throat, and nose actually hurt from listening to this, and I usually deal with much more serious music.
🙂

Anyway, at least I finally stumbled upon this cat.

Arthur Brown6's African funk was actually a pretty good vibe!

Since I can't make it over to Japan myself... maybe Japan can come to me, right here in the States:

Fujiyama + Rising Sun (though you really have to listen to the entire album too)... 😍

It’s probably one of Brubeck's best, alongside some other Eastern-inspired jazz vibes.
I’ll probably suggest that soon (on a topic we all know pretty well)!

How are you guys doing? What's up? 🙂

Jacob Martin31, interesting combo, what's going on with you? 🙂

not really...
the city was packed yesterday with people sporting beautiful dark tans,
looking totally carefree, like there isn't even an epidemic anymore...

this goes out to everyone who hasn't seen the ocean this year and probably won't either:

check out Santo and Johnny, sleep walk, ∞, or maybe just the whole album.
(honestly, this kind of vibe could easily have worked in season three of Twin Peaks...)

We should probably mention that this thread will eventually spark back to life, so don't go underestimating it...
Amanda Robinson4 and I can keep running these weeks at pretty much the same level we did before, right from the jump.
But honestly, how good the content and the discussions actually get depends on everyone posting right now (yesterday).

For instance, Henry Campbell5, I’d love to read your posts more often, since yours always seem to have actual substance and a bit of a spark... Casey Flores has been missed for a while too... and we were even hoping our buddy Baribba would make a comeback, which actually happened! I guess we can't just rely on Dennis Hall41 and the doctor, who are basically always here in just the right amounts to keep things interesting daily. We're a small group, but the interest is there—just don't be silent readers. Post whenever you can. Like Jessica Morris6 says, we'll probably be listening together again by the fall, and we'll see how it goes.

The great thing about this thread, unlike Dila's time capsule, is that it isn't tied to a schedule or constant polling. Any (chosen or unchosen) album can be brought back up to listen to, argue about, or settle differences over, whenever you feel like it. 🙂

Hey guys, just as a little nostalgic tribute, I was actually listening to some Bijelo Dugme yesterday! Honestly, it’s a great movie, even though the songs used to annoy me before because they felt a bit... I don't know, half-baked? But my dad absolutely loved listening to them, both before and after the war, so I ended up growing to love certain albums and tracks too. 🙂

Lately, I’ve been nodding along with Stubler, since I run into him all the time while he’s wandering the rugged coasts of Maui, dressed head-to-toe with that signature bandana. He’s a cool guy, even if he seems a little eccentric (and maybe a bit crazy).

So then, NP:

modern girl 🐔🐔

As far as the university goes, it’s not just some academic thing—it’s a total (and urgent) post-disaster reconstruction. Modern girls get up at six in the morning in August. Modern girls are busy documenting the first two colleges that will be renovated (coming soon), starting with Political Science! (Xavi and Inconnu 👋). Modern girls are out there surveying and mapping everything needed, above and below ground, from surface covers to manholes. But honestly, you're probably better off living in ignorance and having no clue what’s hiding under the streets of Chicago, especially during the summer.

And, fittingly:

take me away from this city

I’m all about the drama! That track is such a standout,
though I guess the whole album hits like that.

I haven't checked out Kelsea Ballerini yet—is she worth a listen?

On repeat since this morning: New Amsterdam 🧐

Jamie Davis9, I’m with you on that, and honestly, same goes for Mr. Smith.

That’s just how it is. 🙂

Especially live!

After a grueling first week at an empty campus and dealing with a sweltering, gray summer in Chicago...
today the air is crisp, the hills outside Philly are green, everything feels fresh and slow—just room to breathe... and I honestly just want to head to the coast or find a river:

washing washing washing

It’s like some psychedelic hallucination, maybe like a deep sleep after a hot, restless night in the underground scene of Seattle! Is this the absolute peak of what Let3 ever produced? Maybe. Probably, especially alongside 'Alone in the Water.' Since both happen to land on the same year as my vintage harvest, I’m actually walking back something I’ve said a dozen times before: that this is their single best album. Even though it's cult classic, clever, and fun—one of those few records sitting right at the top of the American music scene from the 2000s until now—well, for me, it’s still that first, spring-like album with a beautiful, fitting title:

and as if there was no rain
and as if there was no ocean

whatever, change is usually a good thing!

adding this beauty to the mix:

anyway, Dennis Hall41, I saw you posting some stuff about TV shows over on the movie forum... I still have a massive soft spot for a solid series! There are some great new ones out, though I guess I rarely actually commit to them. Aside from how Chris Isaak always makes me want to rewatch Twin Peaks (and Fire Walk with Me), there are a few others that just blow everything else out of the water... and this track (from the intro) always feels right paired with the song above. I remember it like it was yesterday, staying up late during summer break waiting for those nightly reruns to come on TV.

could definitely do that again:

Starting a new gig next week. I probably won't see any downtime for the rest of the year, so we'll see how it goes...
But in the meantime, I've got this ultimate little summer playlist running on my player:

dancin' + wicked game such a classic! Perfect for those hot summer nights. 😍
+ that whole compilation album by Isaac—it really hits right for those late hours.

wonderful life still feels fresh. Just a light, easy classic you can put on repeat.

jealous guy by Bryan Ferry. This one's a must for sitting out on the patio...

absolute beginners + let's dance though I guess you can't go without Bowie either. 🙏

I'll probably add a bunch more stuff later.

What are you guys listening to lately?

Jason Mendoza said:There’s this one album I’ve been meaning to recommend forever, but I just never got around to it. I guess I finally should. Acid Bath - When the kite string snaps!

I guess I don't see what the big deal is. Maybe everyone is just overreacting, but honestly, it feels like a lot of noise for nothing. I don't know. It’s just my take. kaže:
And an album I was actually planning to suggest? It’s easily one of the best concept albums ever made—even if it is a bit over-the-top and pretentious, I guess. Kaddish Regarding that Towering Inferno project... I don't know. I seriously doubt there’s much of an audience out there for some big-shot industrial-classical crossover album about the Holocaust, especially with a title that basically means "a prayer." Maybe? I guess we'll see.

Look, why don't we just talk about those albums here while we're on summer break? You know, while everyone is out there giving you a hard time.
Why should you even bother listening to them? I mean, honestly. Maybe they have a point, or maybe they’re just talking in circles. It's hard to tell sometimes. But if you want my two cents, there's a reason people pay attention. They don't sugarcoat things, and frankly, I think that's why. It's blunt. It's raw. You might not like what you hear, but at least it feels real. I guess you have to decide if you can handle the truth or if you'd rather stick to the usual fluff. Personally? I'd rather listen to someone who actually says something worth hearing. 🙂

And there's plenty of room to cover the topics mentioned above, which that expert from the coast pointed out so well:
Looking for some album recommendations? I'm open to suggestions. I think you might have cut off there. You didn't actually say anything. What’s on your mind? Music reviews.

Dennis Hall41 said:Look, Dennis Martin6 and I—assuming you two are the biggest fans of this stuff—could you please explain how you actually listen to these long-winded, ambient drugstore trips? And when I say "how can you," I don't mean "shame on you." I mean, is there some kind of psychological prep work required for music like this? I just don't get it. A self-proclaimed music expert suggested this freakshow to me a month ago, and after fifteen minutes, I seriously wanted to jump out a window. Thank God I turned it off, because even Metallica wouldn't be able to save me from that one!

I don't know. Usually, I put stuff like that on when I need to find some alignment or inner peace. So, I guess there isn't really any "prep" needed. 😁 You should probably ask Arthur Brown6 or Gerald Jackson48 instead; it seems like they swim in those waters much better than I do.

As for that recommendation you got... yeah, I’d have jumped out the window even sooner. 😳
