uhhhh, Jamie Davis9... 😍 that whole The River tour back in the eighties was legendary,
but honestly, this live version of the song might actually be his absolute peak.

man, it just won't stop raining out here:

see the sky about to rain

(or maybe... be the rain)

Gong - Gnom Invisible Trilogy: Flying Teapot / Angel's Egg (1973)
Something healthy and green for Earth Day.
I'm suggesting two essential albums from the Daevid Allen trilogy, played together. Give them a listen...

Man, Nightclubbing... 😍
Grace Jones really hits the spot tonight.

But honestly, Jon Hassell is such a massive discovery.
🙏

Anyway... lately, we’ve been getting pretty predictable, haven't we? I guess I miss finding those artists and producers who were totally new to me. That used to happen way more often back when Mr. Baribb was involved in the discussions.

Over the last few weeks, it’s mostly just been a string of super famous albums, but today feels a bit more diverse, I suppose—at least more than usual...

Rain, dogs, and birds:

the world spins

It’s just one of those gray, gloomy Mondays...
Maybe I'll just binge some shows under a blanket tonight.

Fine, I guess I'll just do it tomorrow... if nobody says anything. 🕺

Classic Dennis Hall41. 😁For me, those two albums were actually such a pleasant surprise! 😁

urbanheron4, you want to take the lead on Neil Young? 🙂 If you're down, go for it. I'd love that, since you always put so much work into your writing. I won't even offer it to Dennis Hall41; he needs to tackle Talking Heads, and Jason Mendoza already has his own thing going! But, this goes for Billy Walsh too (glad he joined us for the 🎉 albums, even if just for the poll) and the master from the sea. So, who's going first on him? Think about it. I won't bother Amanda Robinson4 this weekend since she's busy.

I've only just finished Tom Waits' intro... and honestly, I didn't expect Neil Young to pass with that Crazy Horse album, even though it's one of my favorites. I also think there's still plenty left to say about him.

So let's pick one...

And you, Dennis Hall41, just always have to go against the grain, don't you?

Well, yeah, exactly! Finally, TH. 🎉
And I'm honestly stoked that it's this specific album!

What’s going on here? Is this some kind of week dedicated to white (and pale) album covers? 😁 I’ve got my own niche interests too, I guess. 😁

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - zum (1975)

image

For me, the absolute best era of old man Young’s career is right around here, somewhere between '73 and '77. It covers masterpieces like 'on the beach', 'zum', and then later 'hitchhiker', which is just packed with little gems that somehow didn't get the spotlight sooner. Plus, I'd throw in two live albums... 'time fades away'... and the exception, that early miracle 'live at massey hall'. And I don't think we've had Young suggested yet... so, let's go!

And yeah, I know everyone is waiting on Tomaž Pengov, but life happened and I haven't been able to commit to anything because work has been crazy lately. This topic is important to me, though. I'll finish the intro today or tomorrow. So please, skip my vote, I'm just trying to beef up the repertoire.

tracklist:

don't Cry no Tears
Danger bird
pardon my Heart
Lookin ' for a Love
Barstool blues
Stupid Girl
Drive
Back Cortez
The Killer Through my Sails

Ashley Grant66 said:By the way, I tried guessing who suggested what in that poll and actually nailed 6 out of 10. I guess it would be pretty cool if we could have a round for anonymous suggestions, maybe? 😁

Steven Newman50 said:That’s actually a pretty solid idea for an anonymous thread. Maybe we could make it its own dedicated circle. 👍

Oh yeah, sure. This is a brilliant idea. I guess. 🙂
I just don't know how we're actually going to pull this off.
Album of the week in Music ·
Glad you liked it. 🙂

This week just feels right, so I finally suggested it, even though I’ve been meaning to for ages. Honestly, last week’s Townes Van Zandt didn't really click with me, but maybe that’s just because he never quite hit the spot for me, I don't know why. I love a few of his songs, but the albums themselves? Just didn't work. It felt like I had to force myself to "like" it, which usually isn't a great sign. But, I guess I'll give him another spin this weekend.

The first listen of an album is actually a pretty big deal to me, and with those songs and music (and later, those gorgeous lyrics), it was just one of those discoveries... where everything just clicks effortlessly.

Here’s a fun fact. This is the artist's debut from back in his college days. The whole thing was recorded in one go on a cassette using mono tech, right in a dorm bathroom in Austin, where Tomaž was living at the time...

The guy was only 24 back then. Makes you wonder what else he could have achieved if he'd actually had the chance... Miljenko Jergović wrote about it all pretty beautifully, here. So, I guess people shouldn't say we never had any truly great talent here either.

Personally, though, this goes way beyond its genre or where it was made. It easily slides into my personal top ten or twenty albums.

Ugh, I was kind of blocked from posting our new options for everyone to vote on, and trying to do it from my phone was just a nightmare...
so I ended up passing out... and I bet Amanda Robinson4 is probably dead to the world right now too. Anyway, here are some new polls for us! 🎉

In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful records ever made in the old US, maybe even globally... a total rarity...
it's basically impossible to find a physical copy anywhere. But, hey, it's a gem regardless.

this was actually the first independent record produced in this part of the country.

Tomaž Pengov - Odpotovanja (1973)

just some chill folk music, perfect for those quiet early mornings or late nights.

and there's a music video... though the song isn't on this specific album, it's on his later 'Pripovedi' from '88.
probably the only early video footage of him. It just shows how simple and beautiful his music really is.

a track for the vineyard workers, the grapes, and the wine:

you can also check out pengov project where his entire discography is available.

Honestly, today has been one of those absolute worst days I've had in a long time...
I don't even know what it is. It’s not even the humidity, but there's just something in the air.

Accident, maybe I was a bit harsh with you yesterday. You definitely got under my skin, but I shouldn't have snapped like that—it's not really my thing. My apologies... As for that album you suggested, it's honestly the only thing that's cheered me up today. It really hit the spot, thanks!
