Maybe the burn was just bad. I always use alcohol when I burn an image. By the way, why are you using the RC version? The RTM has been out for a good week now.

Delete that link before a mod spots it, or you're looking at a ban 😉

I'm about 99% sure this is the actual RTM. When I went through the activation, I actually got that "Action was successful" Windows popup. But because of that lingering 1% doubt, I haven't set it as my primary OS yet; I've just been running it virtually 🙂

Honestly, what can I say? Just take a look at the picture. 😉 It’s not some kind of magic trick, just give it a shot.

I guess you just have to wait until the official release on October 22, 2009, before a real activation can be made.

Yeah... Good luck with that, man.

Brenda Cooper3 said:if the hardware is solid and performance stays the same whether you're running XP, Vista, or Windows 7, then looks are pretty much the only thing left to care about, right?

If the hardware is actually decent (meaning a good CPU and more than 2GB of RAM), then performance definitely isn't going to be the same on XP compared to Windows 7 or Vista. It mostly comes down to the fact that the Truth is, Vista brought much better memory management than XP ever had. If I recall correctly, you mentioned having pretty low RAM, so you can't really judge which is better when Vista and Windows 7 don't have enough memory to work with anyway. For people gaming on a PC, Vista and Windows 7 exist because of the DirectX 10 exclusivity for those OSs; on XP, you just can't fully utilize your graphics cards. Then there's stability... whether you want to admit it or not, Vista is a lot more stable than XP. Even if a BSOD happens, usually it's just 3rd party programs or bad hardware at fault. Networking is handled much better too, and Vista/Windows 7 support IPv6. There's plenty more to it, but I think you get the idea. 🙂

Raymond Stewart87 said:How am I supposed to install drivers when I don't even know what they're for? To make matters worse, the update keeps failing because it says there aren't any drivers available. Anyone else got any ideas?🙏

Check what motherboard you're running and grab the drivers directly from the manufacturer's site. You could try running Everest to check, but if that doesn't work, maybe just pop the side panel off the case and read the model name right off the board.

It’s got its perks, honestly. They managed to iron out a lot of what made Vista such a headache. I guess it really just comes down to what you value. If you're only looking at the interface, then it's purely a matter of taste—whatever OS fits your vibe.

As for XP, it’s like looking back at childhood—everything was just easy and carefree because I didn't have a single thing to worry about.
Everyone manages somehow, but I wouldn't suggest getting Windows 7 (unless you can find it for free, legally, ha ha) if you don't have some free Linux available.
By the way, what is Internet Explorer? Some kind of baby rattle?

Well, you really went off there. Nice job. Everything is argued out so thoroughly it gives me a headache. 👍

PS. You can quote multiple times in one post; you don't need to make a new post for every single reply. 🙂

What transition? Windows 7 isn't even finished yet; this is just for testing purposes 😉

Nicholas Collins68 said:That’s three times now. Three. I’ve swapped out this RAM three separate times already, and I guess these hacks just sent me another dud.😠 It's the same old crowd at Best Buy. I bought the whole setup from them—PC, monitor, printer, camera, gaming joystick, memory cards, the works. I've been a loyal customer for a long time, yet they still find a way to screw me over by trying to push this garbage memory card on me. Typical.😠😠😠 I'm done messing around with them. I've got a warranty, but I honestly don't know what I'm supposed to say. Do I just tell them the memory is screwing me over again and show them a Memtest86+ screenshot? Maybe. I guess we'll see. 🤔 And then those vultures will take my hardware back for "repairs," leaving me without it for a week or two, only to try and shove some faulty RAM back in my system again... I guess it’s just the way things go.🙄 I guess I'll head over there now. If they actually decide to mess with me next week, I'll finally see what they have to say about it.☕
Here they are... just a bunch of idiots. Check out this site: http://www.dipol.com/

Anyway, thanks for the advice...🙂😉

Like rustydriver23 said, you have to figure out which stick is actually bad. I guess the best way is to just leave one stick in there at a time and run MemTest. Pull one out, swap in another, and just cycle through them one by one until you find the dud. You probably need to let MemTest run at least two passes without any errors to be sure it’s fine. Ideally, you'd leave it running all night, but I don't think that's strictly necessary right now.

If you catch an intruder, just write down the serial number on that piece of junk and take it back under warranty. Once they return it, make sure to check the serial number. If it's the same one, it means they just shoved your broken part right back at you. If they actually give you a new one, just pop that specific unit into the machine and run MemTest.

Scenario 2: If every individual stick passes memtest, there’s still a chance that: a) they aren't compatible with each other, b) they don't play nice with the motherboard, or c) one of the slots on the board is just broken.

I have a feeling one bit is still going to fail the memtest. 😉
Windows 7 in Software ·
You’ve got faulty memory. Figure out which stick is bad and pull it—just use your warranty if you still have one. If not, DDR2 isn't exactly breaking the bank these days.

And for the record, this whole thing has nothing to do with drivers 😉 for a bunch of reasons I don't feel like listing right now since I really need to get to sleep. The point is, it's not the drivers.
Windows 7 in Software ·
So the RAM isn't fully compatible with the motherboard? I guess you should have run memtest86+ with all 4GB loaded in.
Windows 7 in Software ·
You're putting a space after the dash. Don't do that:

powercfg -lastwake

Well, turns out it isn't RTM after all. False alarm, I guess. That's how things stand right now. 🙂

What a complete joke of a university 😁

OT: I know, I was there last year too 😬 It’s just that this year they don't have that feature where they text you your results immediately 😢 I made the cut last year, but I was already at the beach by the time I was supposed to turn in my enrollment papers 😬

I figured you were way older. 🤔

Nah, it’s right there in my profile. 😉

I'm hitting the FBI and NBC entrance exams. We'll see how it goes. I need to get in this year, since they're changing the SAT requirements next year. 🤮

OnTopic: Has anyone tried playing Call of Duty 4 on Windows 7?

I've been in a happy relationship for quite a while now 😬 Maybe you'll meet her if we end up working together soon 😁 See you Wednesday at the FBI 😁
