Do We Know Anything At All!? in Spirituality ·
Jesse Wright24 said:It’s a decent enough film. It utilizes a docudrama style that works quite well as an entry point for those just beginning their journey into spirituality. The explanations regarding quantum physics and particle superposition are actually quite excellent. However, there are certain moments where it leans far too heavily into New Age nonsense...

I just can't wrap my head around why people feel the need to dismiss something as total garbage just because they don't grasp it or haven't bothered to look up the actual facts and knowledge behind it... 😕

Oh, look at that. An expert has arrived to lecture us all.
Well, maybe we could actually discuss your motives for a bit.
It seems like everything we write hits a nerve with you, so I guess you're pretty bothered.

Look, I'm really not looking for a confrontation here. ☕

The only reason I even show up in your threads is because you seemed interesting enough to follow, but if my presence is actually bothering you, then just say so...

Arrogant guys and women who don't like you aren't necessarily heartless; maybe they just see right through you. 😬

Like you, for instance. You're probably too dim to read even a billboard.

Unbelievable, really! 😕 I have absolutely no intention of hurting you, so I don't get why you're making this all about you... and now you're actually threatening me? Seriously? 😲

What on earth makes you think I'm "too ugly"? And honestly, is that even a thing people can be... just existing? 😕

hollowbadger17 said:Honestly, that feels a bit like a child's way of looking at the world. Look at it this way: life throws enough curveballs our way that we can't afford to simply deny the bad stuff exists. You have to accept the reality that nothing is ever a sure thing. But if you fall into the trap of seeing everything in strictly black and white, you miss out on so much nuance, and you'll end up feeling like you're spiraling toward rock bottom—which just breeds despair.
I think the goal is to find some kind of equilibrium. Don't get me wrong, I haven't quite mastered it myself, but I'm certainly trying.🙂

Was I really not making sense in my previous post?

Douglas Brown4 said:I suppose when you go into a job interview, it makes sense to have some expectations. If things fall through, maybe that disappointment just serves as motivation to move on. I don't think I could handle a job if I went in expecting absolutely nothing.
True: Depeche Mode has a lyric: "Always knows the prospects learnt to expect nothing," but in the real world, I guess we all tend to expect something.
Don't you expect a salary for your work?

Quincy:
But if you expect the worst and things turn out great, isn't that better? So, maybe the best way is to expect nothing at all, because then there's no disappointment. Just let things happen naturally and adapt as they come.
Sorry. I'm not a robot. I'm a sensitive person.

Quincy:
Well, that isn't easy, since expectation seems almost hardwired into humans. So, I guess the solution lies in how we react to what does or doesn't happen. And that's where we actually have a choice.
I think I'll stick with being vulnerable and sensitive. I'll leave the lack of feeling to those macho types, and I'll leave women who don't like me to them.

You honestly seem like the textbook definition of someone who just loves playing the victim... And you know how those people work? They subtly manipulate everyone else by trying to trigger a massive guilt trip, acting all like, "Oh, look at how deep and sensitive and delicate I am... and look at how cruel you're being to me." 😁

Those macho types and the women who aren't interested in you aren't necessarily sociopaths, maybe they just saw right through you... 😬

hollowbadger17 said:So, shouldn't we be prepared to expect success, just so we have the mental framework to react when things inevitably go sideways?🙂
Is that actually considered a positive mindset?

I mean, sure, the attitude might seem upbeat on the surface, but honestly, it usually just leads to a massive amount of frustration... because if you're walking around expecting everything to go perfectly and then life hits you with a curveball, you're left feeling totally crushed, right? But if you're bracing for the worst and things actually turn out great, isn't that a much better feeling? So, if I'm being real, maybe the best move is to just expect absolutely nothing at all, because then there's zero chance of disappointment... just letting things play out naturally and watching how they unfold, then adjusting on the fly as needed. Of course, that’s easier said than done since humans are basically hardwired to have expectations, which is the tricky part... so I guess the real solution lies in how we choose to react when things do or don't go according to plan. And that's where we actually have some control over things...

Oh well, it doesn't matter now.

Seriously though, I'm dying to know—how on earth does my post have "hidden meanings"? 😕

I didn't quite put my foot in the right place there... My bad. Sorry about that. 😘

I suppose I should probably say something about this whole situation, though it feels like we’ve been circling the drain on this topic for hours now... It’s just one thing after another lately, isn't it? You look at the news, you look at what people are saying online, and it feels like everything is just drifting further away from common sense... I mean, honestly, where does it end? We spend all this time debating these tiny, insignificant details while the actual foundation of things is just crumbling right under our feet... it’s exhausting, really. I’m sitting here thinking about how much energy we waste on these endless cycles, and yet, here I am, still typing... it’s almost funny if you think about it too long... anyway, let's see where this goes... At first glance... Your opening post could definitely be taken a different way than how you directed it at Salvador... I honestly thought there was just a massive mess of confusion going on here, though maybe I'm just overthinking things or jumping the gun without any real reason, so I guess I'll apologize if I misread the room... 🙂

I've been sitting here thinking about all this back and forth we've been having on the boards lately, just staring at the screen and wondering where the hell we actually stand on these issues... It feels like everyone is just shouting into a void without actually listening to the substance of what’s being said, though I suppose that's just how things work these days in America... You see people jumping to conclusions before the facts are even fully laid out on the table, and then you have people like rustymaker5 getting caught up in the weeds of minor details while the bigger picture remains completely ignored by the mainstream media and the folks running the show in D.C.... It’s exhausting, really, to watch the constant cycle of outrage and reactionary nonsense that seems to define our current political landscape... I find myself drifting away from the discussions because it starts to feel less like a debate and more like a choreographed performance where nobody actually wins anything, they just perform for their own side... Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age, or maybe it's just that the level of discourse has dropped so low that there's nothing left to grab onto... anyway, I guess that's just my two cents, if anyone actually cares to hear it... kaže:

I honestly have no clue what part of my post could possibly be taken as an insult to you...😕

Look, it’s not even about being insulting... that isn't the point at all... 🙂

You’re just twisting and turning your words like a snake hiding its tail, making it impossible to tell what you actually mean... one can never really pin down what you're trying to say when you wrap everything up in those layers of ambiguity... 😉 Maybe I completely missed the mark on this one... maybe I just didn't quite grasp the point you were trying to make... 🙄

Maybe the whole thing just boils down to the inherent biological differences between men and women... You see men expressing their dominance through physical aggression quite often, whereas that's just not how women operate. It isn't just because they’re physically smaller, though that plays a part; it's more likely that their drive for dominance isn't primarily psychological, probably stemming from that fundamental maternal instinct...
Men love to talk about how women might subconsciously feel "cheated" by biology, but you could argue just as easily that men harbor a subconscious sense of being sidelined by motherhood. Still, it's something they tend to push to the back of their minds, at least for a little while—I mean, you see it all the time where a new mother pours every ounce of her attention and love into the newborn, which can leave fathers feeling neglected or even strangely jealous of the baby... They often resort to aggressive behavior just as a way to claw back some of that attention and focus onto themselves.

It's actually pretty fascinating how Canada is absolutely reeling over its occasional serial killers, mostly because crime rates there are so incredibly low. (I was watching this show where people in certain cities don't even bother locking their front doors, which, if you tried that here in the States, would be an open invitation for a robbery...) On the flip side, the USA has the highest number of mass shooters, so there's definitely some interesting parallels to be drawn there regarding how different societies handle violence.

Yeah, exactly... that's the idea. 🙂Someone has to flip the light switch so we can finally realize we've been sitting here squatting in the dark the whole time.
I can get behind the notion that vegetarians might have a different kind of perception—that they might even be more spiritually tuned in (even if I don't really buy into that right now)—but if they were, maybe they’d show a bit more tolerance toward us meat-eaters, since we haven't quite reached that level yet... 😛

Look, I’m plenty smart enough to wrap my head around that little nugget of wisdom, but that still doesn't actually answer the question I asked... 🙂

But look, you were the one claiming that the life of every living thing holds equal value... and then, out of nowhere, you start ranking animals and humans as somehow more significant than plant life... which is what I mean when I say your logic is all over the place... it just doesn't track...
That's where the confusion lies, if you ask me...

Thomas Stewart97 said:Sure, everyone's different, and you’re naturally going to hold your friends or your own kin in different lights...
But that doesn't make it right.🙂

But I have to ask, what does "right" actually mean to you? How are you defining it, really, and why on earth do you assume it's some kind of universal constant that holds steady across time, space, and the very essence of being...

Honestly, this actually makes sense to me... 👍 Since I’ve got AB blood, it really isn't any surprise that I find myself constantly wanting both meat and veggies in equal measure... 😁

So you don't have any problem with plants, though? You just go ahead and eat those without a second thought? Is that really how this works...😕

it seems you're pretty out of the loop regarding the actual state of our coastal waters

Look, our own coastline isn't some isolated sanctuary providing every single bit of seafood on our plates... I personally go through a ton of mussels from the North Sea and Japanese tuna, so if we're talking about purity, we have to ask how clean those waters actually are to begin with. Besides, the waters near Italy are notoriously polluted, and I highly doubt anyone could convince me that a few fish aren't drifting over from there... And let's be real, our own coast isn't magically immune to pollution just because we claim it as ours. We've already seen invasive algae and those blue crabs moving in, so anything can drift into our ecosystem at any time...

Yeah, exactly. It reminds me of this story about a cop who catches some kid smoking, starts lecturing him about how it’s unhealthy and cuts your life short, then asks how old he is. Kid says he’s ten, and the officer just smirks and goes, "Well, look at that, if you quit now, you might actually make it to thirteen." 😁
