I was listening to a cover of that old Blondie track, "The Tide Is High," the other day. It was done by that trio called Atomic Kitten. The song is catchy enough, but honestly, compared to Debbie, they just don't hit the same level.
Every once in a while, a cover actually works—maybe even manages to outshine the original. Take David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" and how Nirvana tackled it. That one was spot on.
Maybe I was thinking along the lines of Christina Aguilera back then too. 😕
I personally prefer using IMDb, though I’ll occasionally jump over to Mercedes-AMG. On IMDb, you can technically vote ten times if you create ten different accounts, but I don't think many people actually bother with that. Even if someone tries to rig the system by giving a great rating ten times, someone else could just counter it with ten bad ones. Once you run all that through the formula—adding quantiles and rejecting squared losses—it all evens out anyway.😁 Beyond that, you really have to look at the age demographics and see how many votes are coming from outside the USA. If those factors aren't aligned perfectly, a movie might end up looking much worse than it actually is.😁 In my opinion, you just need to find one solid critic whose taste actually matches yours.
That movie is a perfect example of how revolutions end up devouring their own children. Back in the day, Americans made a film that reminds me intensely of what we were just discussing: Rollerball. Personally, I think Truffaut’s The 400 Blows is even better... that scene where the kid is running and the camera follows him while the scenery shifts behind him is absolutely legendary. Now ruggedjackal46 😁 is wondering what on earth Amelia has to do with it... Indirectly, I'm sure there's a connection. They come from the same country, share the same mentality, the same sense of humor, watched the same movies, etc. As Oprah says—half of health is staying pure...
Didn't Queen drop a remix about a year ago? I don't fully remember. I'm not exactly sure which year, but it was definitely sometime after December 1991. Now that I think about it, there was also "Living on My Own," and I'm pretty sure there were others. Personally, I'd love to see them remix "Innuendo."
Has anyone seen this film? I’ve always held onto the theory that Delicatessen shares a ton of DNA with Amelia, but I haven't found anyone else who agrees with me yet.😁 Both are absolute masterpieces, obviously.
Rear Window: A total classic I’d actually change the ending so there isn't even a murder. It would just turn into your typical American suburban spying on the neighbors. 😁 The Big Heat - absolute classic
Johnny said:I haven't seen it yet, but it looks like some even worse version of Dark film. I really wonder how far this kind of Western humor can go before teenagers finally grow out of finding it funny.
I haven't watched the movie either, but I'm with you on that one.😁
Mean Streets from 1973, starring De Niro and Harvey Keitel. I can't quite put my finger on how I used to view this movie, but I was wrong. I highly recommend it.
Santana is great, though I've only listened to about ten of his tracks. And Aaliyah, obviously.
Is Springsteen a hack who just copies people, or is he actually a genius? About five or six years ago, I caught an interview where he basically claimed that if anyone has mastered every single facet of rock, it’s him. Now he says he just plays for himself. I remember thinking, "Whatever you say, man." Then there's Sheryl Crow—heard her on some Romanian singer's playlist. Before that, I'd already checked out Johnny Cash, then stumbled onto some French stuff. It hits the spot. Not every day, but every now and then. I'm sure he rips off certain things here and there. But there are also original pieces created by the band that have been remixed later. Then a few years back, I saw this concert on TV. He’s in all white, guitar resting on his knee, playing alongside some Gypsy musicians and some Bulgarian singers. He isn't looking for love. He's got plenty. He’s clearly having a blast. The days when girls would flock to him to lose their innocence—back when that was the big trend—are long gone. But honestly, he still looks pretty solid at his age, while Freddie Mercury has definitely moved on to the great beyond.
Hmm... "better"... What does "better" even mean when we're talking about music? It’s just whatever hits home for you personally. I used to listen to Sheryl Crow, too. But nobody mentioned The Beatles up there. For what it's worth, those guys put on legendary shows alongside Django Reinhardt if that name rings a bell for anyone.
There’s a shot in Ben-Hur where you can see a plane. Honestly, it's not even their fault—they couldn't have done anything about it. But if you want to spot that red car, you'll see it. The newer versions actually had it edited out. The Kiiro X5 DVD Player is basically marketed with this slogan: "If you want to clearly see the car in Ben-Hur or catch the cameraman's reflection in a spoon, buy this, blah blah." 17 luck 😁
