So if you have 8,000 deaths for every 80,000 recoveries, and you assume that ratio holds steady for everyone else, you’re looking at 160,000 recoveries and 16,000 deaths—which is a 10% mortality rate, not some tiny 1.3% figure people keep throwing around.

Hmm...
Paul Martinez73 is just playing with percentages.

Paul Sanders5 said:I’m trying to look at the big picture here. Okay, so right now we're all stuck in this weird isolation phase, but let’s just dream for a second—imagine the absolute best-case scenario where we kick off June without any more Corona. We, the Americans, and pretty much all of Europe.

Then August rolls around, tourists start flooding back in—people from all over, even Singaporeans—and boom, here comes Corona again. What then? Are we just looking at another round of this whole mess?

Seriously, those damn Chinese people and their constant feeding habits.

Based on the data regarding recoveries and basically everyone else, once you get over it, you shouldn't be able to catch it again (I even stumbled upon some info saying you couldn't even spread it, though I'm skeptical about that part).

Following that logic, they'll likely need another 3 to 4 cycles of self-isolation or quarantine, but each one should get shorter and hit fewer people. Looking at the data out of China, they're predicting the first cycle will last about 8 weeks—though I'm assuming they didn't just copy China's timeline because things will definitely drag on longer here since people are idiots and won't follow the rules.

Unless the virus mutates, then we might actually be screwed.

Maybe we could do a hack session after lunch or towards the evening, what do you guys think?

By the way, there's already an incredible documentary out about Agnelli. It's top-tier.

They also mention in the Maradona doc that the director likes to twist the truth, but since I don't know much about his life or work, I have no clue which parts they're talking about.

Fine, I was looking at some docs on Maradona, but it’s not like I was sitting there on my ass over it.

I think people overlook the fact that folks keep their dogs in fenced yards because if they just let them loose, they're gonna get into trouble. It’s rare for anyone to deal with a dog disappearing from their yard without losing their mind, whereas with cats, people just let them wander in and out however they please—usually when the cat doesn't even really live "inside," just sort of hangs around the house.

Besides, the population of stray cats is way higher than that of stray dogs (there's actually a distinction made right in the terminology).

I have a cat myself, but mostly because I have the free time and actually want to care for something that depends on me. It’s hard not to love animals; unlike humans, where you deal with all kinds of mess, with them, you're dealing with the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

The pacing felt a little disjointed for me right in the middle, but man, that ending absolutely blew me away
It actually beats Dunkirk in my book
Dunkirk Mendes has been a total magnet for me ever since American Beauty...

Same here regarding the middle and the end. The production design and cinematography—especially those specific shots showing the grit and the mental state in the trenches during the retreat... it's heavy stuff. Especially after bingeing all that Great War content on YouTube.

As for the actual story, I'd say Dunkirk takes it because of the technical execution.

Just an idiot working overseas. He stays behind the scenes and you occasionally hear him on the phone, but honestly, the guy is gold.

I know Thompson loves skipping out on paying musicians who played on his albums, but I highly doubt he'd ever actually bother touring through Mexico.

Everyone already knows Patrick Martin is into those thick, old-school vibes,
so congrats on finally coming out of the closet, man.

That kind of music isn't really my cup of tea, though one has to admit the woman is certainly a household name.

Shoutout to ambertinker41 for that utterly futile attempt at a turnaround.

You popped into my head when I saw that Turturro has a new mini-series called Rose Name. Is it actually worth watching, or should I just skip it?

Hidden messages, you say? When someone sings to their late rival asking if they remember them, yeah, there aren't exactly any subliminal conspiracies buried in those lyrics.

But sure, New York isn't the same New York anymore, though let's be real, it would be the same story in any major US city. I won't lecture anyone on taste; people should listen to whatever they want. Besides, taste is dead anyway—doesn't matter if it's movies, music, or anything else. I couldn't care less if it's Taylor Swift or Despacito.
Ever since Disney bought and recycled Star Wars, nothing really matters anymore, so you might as well just stick to the heavy hitters from the old school...

The biggest scam is thinking the new Star Wars is somehow worse than the originals. Star Wars has always been garbage; now we're just seeing that same garbage recycled a hundred times over.

brightpilot6 said:Since you happen to be a nuclear physicist—and a practical one at that—I imagine you could offer a fairly grounded assessment of the arguments on both sides.

It really is quite something to witness how people lose their cool and engage in such heated disputes, isn't it? It happens everywhere, from teenagers in Sweden to folks in Chicago. Just look at the comments on Facebook 🤦

It’s pure Dunning Kruger.

Look, anyone who actually has experience working on a factory floor isn't going to blindly or openly advocate for nuclear energy.

I don't actually have anything against energy or technology itself, but when you see just how unprofessional and reckless the average person can be, you realize they can screw things up so badly that the risk simply isn't worth taking.

And you can clearly see this is just the typical trend among Liverpool FC fans and towards everyone in general, especially since based on the latest updates, even another buddy of mine is out there buying a 3XL jersey.

So, is Whiplash for Liverpool too?

Elizabeth Mendoza said:I’m honestly over all these fancy LCD, UHD, and plasma pieces of junk. Right now, I’ve got a Roadstar CRT sitting on my kitchen shelf—it’s a 13-inch screen from back in 2001. It doubles as a killer space heater in the winter.

If you start watching TV in the kitchen, you'll end up looking just like Patrick Martin.
