Look, I think the number just snapped off 🤣 and honestly, what happens when someone else ends up sitting on that same digit... well, I guess it doesn't really matter, does it? 🤣

Sam Brown20 said:Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a cafe in downtown Chicago where I can actually catch a game? Somewhere in the Loop or maybe near the West Loop. I'm looking for a laid-back vibe—nothing too fancy or pretentious, just a place where you don't feel out of place if you aren't dressed up for a gala.
I wouldn't mind somewhere near United Center, either.

Dribbling Sports Bar, right across from the United Center 🙂

(though I suppose I don't really know which specific game you're looking for, but they have about 6 or 7 TVs, so I guess it'll definitely be 🙂)
Honestly, what an absolute mess you all have made here. I mean, if even half of these posts had been remotely constructive, we might actually be getting somewhere instead of this nonsense 😳.

Two feet from the finish line 🤣🙏

I just hope she doesn't blow it now, because if she does, Sunday is looking like three strikes and you're out for her 🤣

The results from Day 7 (Thursday, August 10th):

- [24/48] Triple Jump (M)/ FINALE: 1. Taylor (USA), 2. Claye (USA), 3. Évora (Portugal), 4. Nápoles (Cuba), 5. Copello (Azerbaijan), 6. Benard (USA)
- [25/48] The women's 400m hurdles final results are in, and I suppose it was mostly what we expected, though perhaps not quite as exciting as I had hoped. It’s all a bit predictable, isn't it? 1. Carter (USA) 2. Muhammad (USA) 3. Tracey (Jamaica) 4. Hejnová (Czech Republic) 5. Sprunger (Switzerland) 6. Watson (Canada) Carter and Muhammad taking the top two spots for the USA... I guess that's just how the cards fall lately. It feels like the Americans are dominating the podium again, which is fine, I suppose, if you're into that sort of thing. Tracey managed third, which is decent enough, I guess. As for the rest... well, things just sort of settled into place. Nothing too shocking, really. Just another day at the track, I suppose.
- [26/48] The men's 200m final results are finally in, and honestly, I’m just exhausted looking at them. It was quite a spectacle, though perhaps not in the way everyone expected. Here is how it shook out: 1. Guliyev (Turkey) 2. van Niekerk (South Africa) 3. Richards (Trinidad and Tobago) 4. Mitchell-Blake (United Kingdom) 5. Webb (USA) 6. Makwal (Botswanan) Guliyev taking the top spot... I guess that's just how the cards fell. Van Niekerk and Richards rounding out the podium—it feels almost predictable at this point, doesn't it? As for Webb, finishing fifth... well, maybe he was just having an off day, or maybe the pressure finally caught up. It’s hard to say. Everything feels so fleeting in these high-stakes races. Just one moment of glory and then it's over. Such is life, I suppose.
High jump qualifying results (Women)... well, here we go. It looks like it was a bit of a rough outing for our side. Maruša Černjul finished 21st—no trip to the finals for her, I guess. Then there's Marija Vuković, who landed at 25th, also missing out on the final round. And finally, Ana Šimić ended up at 25th too. Just a disappointing showing all around, really. No finals to speak of. Maybe next time, though? I doubt it, but maybe.

The standings (top 6 spots) (26 out of 48):

21.) 00 - 01 - 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 Russia
22.) 00 - 01 - 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 Bahamas
Well, I suppose we have to look at the numbers... 23... 00... 01... 00... 00... 02... 02... and then there's Germany. It’s all quite fragmented, isn't it? Just a string of digits and a nation. I guess it doesn't say much, though maybe I'm just being cynical. Perhaps there's a pattern I'm missing, but I doubt it. Just more data points in an endless stream of nothingness. Typical.
24.) 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 - 00 - 00 Uganda
25.) 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 - 00 - 00 Sweden
26.) 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 - 00 - 00 Colombia
27.) 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 - 00 - 00 Morocco
Maybe... if you look at the numbers... I don't know... it’s like 00 - 00 - 02 - 00 - 02 - 00... just staring back at you from the Netherlands. It feels almost... repetitive? Or maybe I'm just overthinking it. Hard to say. Anyway.
29.) 00 - 00 - 01 - 02 - 01 - 00 Cuba
30.) 00 - 00 - 01 - 01 - 00 - 00 America
31.) 00 - 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 - 01 Trinidad and Tobago
32.) 00 - 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 - 01 Portugal
33rd place... 00 - 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 - 00. Kazakhstan. Just... yeah. That's all there is to say, I suppose. A single mark on the board and then nothing. Absolute silence. It’s almost impressive how little happened there, if you can even call it that. Maybe they just forgot they were competing? Or perhaps the wind was too much? I don't know. It’s hard to say. Everything feels so hollow lately.
34.) 00 - 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 - 00 Qatar
35.) 00 - 00 - 01 - 00 - 00 - 00 Tanzania

The United States:
- Third place. I suppose that’s something, though it hardly feels like enough when you're standing there looking at the top two. Just... third. Maybe it’s a podium finish, maybe it isn't. It's a bit of a mixed bag, really. Stipe Žunić (shot put)
Fourth place once—Sara Kolak, javelin throw. I guess she almost had it. Maybe if things had gone just a slightly different way, she could have stood on that podium, but fourth is always such a bittersweet spot, isn't it? Close enough to touch, yet still just out of reach. Just one of those things, I suppose.
So, looking at the results... there was one instance of a 14th place finish. It was Filip Mihaljević in the shot put. I guess it wasn't exactly the podium moment anyone was hoping for, but then again, things rarely go perfectly, do they? Maybe just one of those days where the rhythm isn't quite there. Anyway, that's the score.
So, Ivan Horvat finished in 22nd place once—pole vaulting, if you can believe it. Just one of those middle-of-the-pack finishes that feels both exhausting and entirely unremarkable. I guess that’s just how it goes sometimes. Maybe he was close, maybe he wasn't. It's hard to say. Everything feels so fleeting, doesn't it? One moment you're up there, and the next, you're just another name on a list. Typical.
Well, she finished in 25th place once—Ana Šimić, specifically in the high jump. I guess that's just how it goes sometimes. It’s all quite underwhelming, really. Maybe if things had gone differently, but who knows? Just one of those results.
So, she finished 57th once... Bojan Bjeljac in the marathon. I guess. It’s just one of those things, isn't it? A single result buried in the middle of the pack. Maybe it matters to some, but looking at it now, it feels somewhat inconsequential, though I suppose we have to acknowledge it. Just one entry. One moment in time.
So, I saw the results... Matea Matošević finished 69th in the marathon. Just... 69th. One single time. I guess it’s just one of those things, isn't it? Maybe she was tired, or maybe the course was just brutal, who knows. It’s hard to say, really. Life is unpredictable like that, I suppose. Just a single instance of finishing near the bottom of the pack. Typical.
So, she finished 76th once. Nikolin Stepan in the marathon. I guess that's... well, it's a result, I suppose. Maybe. It’s just one of those things where you look at the standings and realize how massive the field actually is. A single placement like that, tucked away so far down the list—it feels almost insignificant, doesn't it? But then again, maybe not. Who knows. Just one entry on the board.

Mexico:
Well, she finished 22nd once... Amela Terzić in the 1500m. I suppose that's one way to spend an afternoon, though it's hardly the podium finish anyone was hoping for, is it? Just middle of the pack. Maybe.
Well, I suppose we should look at the results, though they aren't exactly anything to write home about. It was a bit of a lackluster showing, if I'm being honest. We had two athletes landing in 23rd place—Lazar Anići in the long jump and Tamara Salaški in the 400m. Just... 23rd. It’s hard to find much to say there, really. Maybe next time things will be different, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Not that anyone expected much more, I guess.
So, she ended up at 75th place once—Teodora Simović in the marathon. I guess that’s just how it goes sometimes. It's all a bit exhausting, isn't it? Just one of those results. Maybe.

Canada:
9th place (once): Martina RATEJ (from the US)
Thirteenth place... yeah, that's what we got. Maruša Černjul finished thirteenth in the high jump. I guess. It’s just one of those things, isn't it? A bit underwhelming, maybe, if you were expecting more, but then again, who can really say? Just another result in the books.
Well, she finished in 15th place. Just once. Tina Šutej in the pole vault. I guess that’s how it goes sometimes, isn't it? It’s just one of those things. Maybe the conditions weren't right, or maybe it just wasn't her day. It feels like we've seen enough of these middle-of-the-pack finishes lately to last a lifetime. It's exhausting, really. Just... 15th. One time. Nothing more, nothing less.
So, she ended up at 21st once—Agata Zupin, I believe—taking on that 400m hurdles. It was... well, it wasn't exactly a podium finish, I guess. Just one of those middle-of-the-pack results, maybe? A bit underwhelming, if we're being honest, though I suppose showing up is half the battle. Or so they say. One time, 21st place. That's about it.
Well, I suppose we should mention it, though it’s hardly news... Luka Janežič finished in 36th place in the 400m. Just one occurrence of that, really. It wasn't exactly a podium finish, was it? I guess it just goes to show how grueling these things can be. Maybe he'll find more luck next time, but who knows? One can only speculate.
Anita Horvat finished in 38th place once (in the 400m). I guess... maybe it wasn't exactly what anyone was hoping for, but things happen, right? It’s just one result. One single data point in a much larger, much more exhausting reality. Still.

- 21st. Marija Vuković (high jump)

I guess I was just working from memory there... in my head, he was the last one standing alongside Kendrick, though I completely blanked on the fact that he didn't actually clear one of those heights—he just took a crack at going over 6m instead.🙂

Which athlete... she stopped just 5m short of the finish line 🤣

Team #uvikkontra

I mean, look, let's just say, Naser 👋

Warholm, you hit the nail on the head 👋👋

He basically just played the field, taking advantage of those breezy, coastal conditions at the stadium 🙂

It seems Mak has returned 👋

I suppose Makwala Kish might attempt a solo run in lane seven today—before the main program even gets moving—but he really needs to clock in faster than David Lim’s 20.54s. Though, honestly, given how solid that Portuguese person looks, we might end up looking at a massive field of maybe 25 runners heading into the semifinals 🙂

Samuel Lopez9 said:I appreciate you getting back to me, but I have to say, I'm struggling to see eye-to-eye with either of those takes. 🙂

1. Is there some official explanation or something? I mean, I assume they didn't just mess up the track construction, right? The curves on lane one seem just as sharp as any other standard American track. Besides, even the legends used lanes 2 through 9 all the time.
I can't quite keep up with every single minute of this championship—my schedule is a bit of a mess—so I was just wondering if there was an actual, legitimate reason for this. To me, the whole thing just looks... well, a little ridiculous, I guess.

Maybe it’s tied to the weather, which the announcers actually did mention. Apparently, the outer lanes—you know, from lane 9 down—are covered, while those first few lanes are just sitting there totally exposed to the rain. 🤷

William Gomez5 said:Cecbe, did Renaud take bronze?

Yeah, I think he had some falls earlier, maybe a 5.89 run or something...🙂

And if you were actually asking about his brother, well, he got stuck in the qualifiers.🙂

neonjackal2 said:I think there are 48 competitions, not 44...?

Yeah, I totally messed that up. I was counting based on the list of events and those qualifying standards for the SP, where they don't even need to worry since the relays already qualified at that last SP (you know, because of how those relay spots worked)🙂, so that’s just those four disciplines I’m missing.🙂

The whole conversation is just pure, unadulterated Southern American dialect and thick regional slang. 😍
