Best World Cup semifinal match ever? in Soccer ·
There isn't any footage, not by any chance... maybe, just maybe, some random clip from a single match, perhaps a goal caught by a camera positioned behind the net or way up in the stands where everything looks blurry and indistinct.🙂

Full matches might exist from 1954, certainly from 1958, and then you've got the entire tournament from 1966, I suppose.🙂

Tactics:

My squad... well, they’re going to attempt to emulate that classic Brazil formation from those championship eras back in '58-'62, and then later in 1970. So, I suppose 4-2-4 is the baseline, though when Kenny Dalglish drops back slightly into that number 10 role, we shift to 4-3-3. My philosophy? It's basically Defend well so we can attack even better, or rather, just focus on the idea of getting more goals scored than we let in—essentially, Zabiti more than we concede. I picked this system because, I guess, it feels efficient. It seems to suit the creative abilities, the general mindset, and the temperaments of my players, specifically their unique skills and characteristics. But, mind you, this setup demands a pretty high level of tactical intelligence if we want to switch effectively between 4-3-3, or occasionally 3-2-5, or maybe even 3-1-6.

Since we always defend with six players and attack with six (or maybe even seven, if things go well), it’s this combination of a tight, compact, powerhouse defense paired with an equally heavy attack. The midfield acts as the bridge—the link, really—between those two main lines, meaning they participate almost equally in both phases. That said, Stiles has a somewhat more pronounced defensive duty, whereas Didi handles the attacking side. All the players are quite high-energy runners, technically versatile, and decent with the ball at their feet, which I think allows the system to function, given there are only two traditional midfielders out there.

Defense:

We’ll run with two fullbacks and two classic center-backs. However, Blind can step in as a libero—kind of like he does at Ajax—to clean up any mistakes Ferdinand might make. The fullbacks play well in both directions, which should be used heavily; they'll overlap with the wingers in plenty of sprints. They stay active constantly and work closely with the midfield, especially during that transition from defense to attack. Of course, if one fullback pushes forward, the other stays back, and in the unlikely event they both go up, Stiles drops into the defensive line to form a back three with the center-backs. If we lose possession, they have to scramble back to their positions to cover the space in front of them, since we only have those two guys in the middle.

The center-backs are strong and dominant in the air, which helps break up opponent attacks and makes distributing the ball to the midfielders easy. This leads to quick counters where it shouldn't be hard to Zabiti, considering we have four players up front. Aside from the keeper, they aren't really looking to attack much; they stick strictly to defending, except perhaps for some set pieces in the opponent's third. They basically act as defensive fortresses.

Midfield:

They are the link between defense and attack, contributing to both lines. With their running and quality, they provide extra stability to the defense, particularly when a fullback moves upfield. They put pressure on opponents right at the start of their buildup, win the ball back, and then feed one of the attacking quartet—which shouldn't be difficult given the wide variety of passing options available. Like I mentioned before, Stiles definitely has the more defensive, disruptive role, but if he finds space, he can create something dangerous too. If not, his job is simple: get the ball to Didi, and Didi will know what to do with it, depending on who among the attackers is in a better position, or he might just take the shot himself. It requires a high level of stamina and strength, which these two certainly possess.

Attack:

Even the wingers aren't exempt from defensive duties; they drop back in front of the fullbacks to help cover that open space. Given how fast they are, once we regain possession, they sprint forward to exploit the gaps left by the opposing fullbacks. From there, they either cut into the box to finish the play or find the strikers with precise crosses.

The central strikers' roles depend on what the wingers are doing; if it's a cross, they attack aggressively, but if the wingers are cutting inside, they pull the opponent's center-backs away to create space for them. Kenny Dalglish won't play as a traditional 9 or a 10, but somewhere in between—a sort of "9.5." He'll stay slightly deeper, forming a trio with Stiles and Didi. He essentially has total freedom to either score or create chances. The coordination between those two central attackers has to be perfected for this to work. Dalglish pulls the opposing center-back pairing (or at least one of them) out of position, leaving more unguarded space for the wingers and/or Bettegi, acting as the poacher. Also, the attack is our first line of defense; they’re the ones applying the initial pressure to try and snatch the ball or at least slow down the opponent's momentum.

The bottom line is this:

We play high-pressure ball, throwing 6 or 7 guys at them on the attack, then dropping back with just as many—goalkeeper included, I suppose—to hold the line. We try to disrupt their rhythm or just slow down their build-up right in their own territory, early on. Then, we strike. We go for those lethal, lightning-fast counterattacks through the wings or maybe pulling the fullbacks forward. In the air? We’re aggressive, physical, dominant in the jump. Defensively, we stay tight and compact, while up front, we play with a certain... intensity, I guess. And by the final whistle? If we win, we'll be happy. Just happy.

And just look at who they were facing in the Champions League https://scontent-vie1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...98&oe=5B0E56C9
I suppose I’ll grab one too... doesn't really matter which one, honestly... just whichever happens to be the last one left standing 👋

Rory’s going to take this one... assuming he doesn't lose his nerve at the worst possible moment.🙂

I was just sitting there, I guess, waiting to see who would finally squeeze this ridiculous meme out of us.🙏

But honestly, I mean... it seems like Rory just keeps throwing himself into these impossible situations, creating these massive hurdles for himself, yet somehow, somehow, he always manages to find a way out of them.🤣

I guess Spieth finally decided to step on the gas there... five birdies in a row. His first time ever doing that at a major. 🙏

I really don't see the point in me typing anything else; if he actually wants to respond, he can just do it himself, I guess. 🙂

What else is even left at the Oscars? This was actually pretty solid

It’s honestly kind of surprising, really... you have this movie where the Church isn't explicitly mentioned, yet the whole thing just sort of breathes through a religious lens without ever casting it in a negative light 🙏 (I guess I half-expected there might be some tension involving that heavy-set girl who failed algebra, but strangely nothing 🙏). I went in thinking the director might be some hardline Christian, but nope, not even close 🙏

It felt a little forced, maybe... like, the part where she ends up in the men's W.C. because there's a line in the women's, and then she just happens to run into her ex while he's hanging out with another guy 🤣 and then, of course, that same ex shows up at the table later and starts making a scene about the waiting list right in front of her mother 🤣

Anyway, 7/10 🙂

Call me a man's man, but I have never felt such an overwhelming urge to just shut off a movie before as I did while watching this 🤷
It wasn't even about the fashion, and the plot didn't really grab me either; then there are those moments—and there are quite a few—where he just loses his mind over every little detail... 🙄

The only redeeming qualities, I suppose, are the parts where she goes out of her way to mess with him using those obnoxious food and drink sounds 🤣🙏

I have a feeling the fight is dragging on only because someone told the promoters it would look bad if it wrapped up in under 90 seconds.

And then, to top it all off, we get an ending like that. 🤣
