2017 World Athletics Championships (London) in Other Sports ·
The results from day ten—that final stretch on Sunday, August 13th:

- [38/48] Power walking. Or, I suppose, fast walking. It’s a thing, isn't it? People just... moving quickly on foot. I guess you could call it a workout, though I find the whole concept somewhat exhausting just thinking about it. There’s a certain frantic energy to it—people marching down the sidewalks of New York City like they're late for a very important meeting that probably doesn't even exist. Maybe it's good for the heart, or whatever the doctors say. I don't know. I can't say I see the appeal in rushing around just to burn calories, but then again, what do I know? Life is short, and apparently, we should spend it walking faster. 31 miles The results from the finals... well, here they are, I suppose. 1st place goes to Henriques from Portugal—though I can't say I was particularly surprised by that outcome. Then we have Yin and Yang, both representing China, taking second and third. Burnett from the USA managed to snag fourth. As for everyone else? Just a massive list of DNFs. Total chaos, really. Most of them didn't even finish. It’s just one of those days, I guess. Typical.
- [39/48] Speed walking. Or, I suppose, one could call it power walking, though that feels far too upbeat for a Tuesday. It’s an odd way to move, isn't it? Not quite running, but certainly more frantic than a casual stroll through Central Park. You’re basically trying to outrun your own shadow without actually lifting your feet off the pavement. I guess there is some sort of merit to it, if you believe the health gurus, but I find the whole endeavor rather exhausting to even contemplate. Maybe it's just me. It seems like a lot of effort just to get from point A to point B slightly faster while looking somewhat ridiculous. 31 miles So, here we go... the final results are finally in. I suppose this is what it all comes down to. It’s a bit exhausting, isn't it? Just one thing after another. Anyway, here is how the podium shook out for the men's finale: 1. Diniz (France) 2. Arai (Japan) 3. Kobayashi (Japan) 4. Hlavan (Ukraine) 5. Maruo (Japan) 6. Helebrandt (Canada) I guess Diniz managed to pull it off, though I can't quite say if I'm surprised or just tired. The Japanese contingent really dominated the top spots—Arai and Kobayashi holding strong, and then Maruo following them. It feels like a predictable pattern at this point, which is... well, it's something. Hlavan and Helebrandt rounding out the top six. It’s done. Finally.
- [40/48] Power walking... I suppose. It’s one of those things people do to feel productive without actually committing to anything more strenuous. You see them on the sidewalks in places like Chicago or New York, just moving at a brisk, almost frantic pace, eyes fixed on some invisible finish line. I guess you could call it a workout, if you're into that sort of thing. Personally, I find the whole concept somewhat exhausting just to contemplate. Maybe it's about the momentum? Or perhaps it's just a way to outrun one's own thoughts. Who knows. It seems a bit desperate, honestly. Just a fast-paced shuffle through life. 12 miles (M)/ THE FINAL RESULTS: 1. Arévalo (Colombia), 2. Shirobokov (Russia), 3. Bonfim (Brazil), 4. Shange (South Africa), 5. Linke (Germany), 6. Bird-Smith (Australia)
- [41/48] Power walking... I suppose one could call it that. It’s just walking, really, but with this frantic, almost desperate sense of urgency, as if everyone is perpetually running five minutes late for a meeting they don't even want to attend. I see people doing it in the parks—just marching along with that intense, rhythmic stride. It seems exhausting, honestly. Why not just walk? Or run? But no, power walking exists in this strange, middle ground. I guess there's some supposed health benefit to it, though I've always been a bit skeptical about these fitness trends that demand so much unnecessary effort. Maybe it's good for the heart, or whatever. I don't know. It just looks... intense. Too intense for a Tuesday morning. 12 miles The results are finally in for the women's final... if you can even call it that. It was a bit of a mess, I suppose. Here is how the podium shook out: 1. Yang 2. Gonzalez 3. Palmisano 4. Sena 5. Arenas 6. Cabecinho Honestly, it’s just one thing after another with these competitions. Everything feels so predictable lately, though I might be wrong—I could easily be misreading the whole situation. Maybe there's more to it than meets the eye, but I doubt it. Just another day at the office, I guess.
- [42/48] High Jump (M) / THE FINALS: 1. Barshim (Qatar), 2. Lisenko (Russia), 3. Ghazal (Syria), 4. Rivera (Mexico), 5. Przybylko (Germany), 6. Grabart (United Kingdom)
- [43/48] Discus Throw (W) / THE FINALS: 1. Sandra Perković, 2. Stevens, 3. Robert-Michon, 4. Perez, 5. Caballero, 6. Muller. I mean, looking at these results... it’s just one thing after another, isn't it? Sandra Perković is still absolutely dominating, which I suppose shouldn't be a surprise, though it feels like she's playing a different game entirely. Then you've got Stevens taking second—solid performance there, I guess. It’s all quite predictable yet exhausting to watch. Just more of the same cycle.
- [44/48] The 5000m finals... what a mess. I guess we finally saw how it would shake out. Obiri took the win, though I suspect the pacing was all over the place. Then you had Ayana coming in second, followed by Hassan in third. Teferi grabbed fourth, then Kipkemoi at five, and Muir finished sixth. It’s just one of those races where everything feels a bit disjointed, if you ask me. Just another day in the track circuit, I suppose.
- [45/48] The 800m women's final results... well, here they are, I suppose. It was quite the spectacle, though perhaps not what some were hoping for. 1. Semenya (South Africa) 2. Niyonsaba (Burundi) 3. Wilson (USA) 4. Wambui (Kenya) 5. Bishop (Canada) 6. Cichock (Poland) Semenya took it, as many expected, I guess. The rest of the field followed behind in a bit of a scramble. It’s all very fleeting, isn't it? One moment you're sprinting toward glory, and the next, you're just another name on a list. Anyway, that's the order.
- [46/48] The 1500m men's final... well, here we go. It was quite the spectacle, I suppose. Manangoi took the top spot for the USA, followed by Cheruiyot, also representing the USA. Then you had Ingebritsen from Norway coming in third, which was expected, I guess. Mechaal from Spain grabbed fourth, then Holusa from the Czech Republic at five, and finally Mikhou from Bahrain in sixth. Just one of those races, really. Quite exhausting to even watch.
- [47/48] The Women's 4x400m relay final... well, there you have it. I suppose the results speak for themselves, though I find myself wondering if anyone actually enjoyed watching it. The USA took first, naturally—gold for the home team. Then came the United Kingdom in second, followed by Poland in third. France managed fourth, while Nigeria landed fifth, leaving Germany to round out the pack in sixth. Just another day at the track, I guess. Everything feels so predictable lately, doesn't it? Maybe it's just me.
- [48/48] The Women's 4x400m relay final... well, there you have it. I guess it's all over now. Trinidad and Tobago took the gold, which, honestly, is just one of those things that happens, isn't it? Then the USA grabbed second—not quite the top spot we were looking for, but still, a podium finish. Third went to the United Kingdom. Following closely behind them, we saw Belgium in fourth, then Spain at fifth, and finally, Cuba rounding out the top six. It’s all a bit chaotic, really. One moment they're sprinting, the next it's all finished. Just how the world turns, I suppose.

The standings (top 6 spots) (48 out of 48):
Maybe... I guess... those dates? 10 - 11 - 09... and then there's 02 - 06 - 05... all in the USA. Just numbers, really. Or maybe they aren't. Who knows anymore. Everything feels so fragmented lately. It's all just... data points in a void. I suppose.
February 5th, 2004... or maybe it was February 2nd? I can't quite pin it down, my memory isn't what it used to be, I suppose. It was around that time in Kenya. Or at least, that's how the dates seem to be clustering in my mind. I guess it doesn't really matter now, does it? Everything just blurs together after a while. Maybe.
03. 03 - 01 - 02 / 01 - 01 - 00 South Africa
04.03 - 00 - 02 / 04.01 - 02 France. I suppose... maybe? It’s hard to say for sure. Everything feels so fragmented lately. Just numbers on a page, really. Or perhaps they aren't just numbers. Who knows. I guess we'll see. Typical.
Maybe... I suppose... if one were to look at the data—though why anyone would bother is beyond me—you have these sequences. 05. 02 - 03 - 02... followed by that other mess, 03 - 01 - 01. It all points toward China. Or maybe it doesn't. Everything feels a bit fragmented lately, doesn't it? Just numbers floating in the void. China. There it is. Again.
06. 02 - 03 - 01 / 05 - 03 - 06 United Kingdom
February 3rd, 2000... or maybe it was early February 2001? I guess it doesn't matter much now. Ethiopia. That's the one on my mind. Or was it? Perhaps. It feels like a lifetime ago.
February 2nd, 2004... or maybe it was February 3rd, 2003? I can't quite wrap my head around the timeline. My memory isn't what it used to be, I suppose. Regardless, we're looking at Poland. Or, well, the scores from that period in Poland. It’s all a bit hazy.
09.) 01 - 05 - 00 / 01 - 01 - 01 Russia
February 1st through February 4th... or maybe it was the 2nd through the 3rd? I can't quite recall the exact sequence, my memory isn't what it used to be. Anyway, regarding those dates in Germany... I suppose it's all quite settled now.
January 1st, 2001... versus January 2nd, 2000. The USA. I suppose one could look at those dates and see patterns, though I doubt anyone truly finds clarity in such numbers. It’s all just data points in a void, really. Maybe there's a connection, maybe there isn't. Who can say? Everything feels rather fragmented lately.
12.) 01 - 01 - 00 / 00 - 01 - 02 Bahrain
13.) 01 - 01 - 00 / 00 - 01 - 00 Turkey
14.) 01 - 01 - 00 / 00 - 01 - 00 Colombia
15.) 01 - 01 - 00 / 00 - 00 - 02 Australia
16.) 01 - 00 - 03 / 04 - 03 - 02 Jamaica
17.) 01 - 00 - 03 / 00 - 02 - 00 Netherlands
18.) 01 - 00 - 01 / 01 - 00 - 00 The USA.
19.) 01 - 00 - 01 / 00 - 00 - 02 Trinidad and Tobago
So... I was looking at the numbers. Just staring at them, really. It’s like 20. 01 - 00 - 01 versus 00 - 00 - 01. And then there's Spain. I guess you could say things are looking a bit lopsided? Maybe. It feels heavy, somehow. Just a series of digits that don't quite add up to anything meaningful, yet they feel significant. Or perhaps they don't. I can't be sure. Everything feels a bit disjointed lately. Anyway, just my two cents.
21.) 01 - 00 - 01 / 00 - 00 - 00 Qatar
22.) 01 - 00 - 01 / 00 - 00 - 00 Norway
23.) 01 - 00 - 01 / 00 - 00 - 00 Venezuela... I suppose... maybe just pure chaos? It feels like everything is spinning out of control over there in Venezuela. Just total instability, I guess. Everything is breaking down. Or maybe that's just how it looks from here. Who knows anymore. Just absolute madness.
24.) 01 - 00 - 00 / 01 - 00 - 00 Belgium
25.) 01 - 00 - 00 / 00 - 00 - 01 Greece
26.) 01 - 00 - 00 / 00 - 00 - 00 Lithuania
27.) 01 - 00 - 00 / 00 - 00 - 00 New Zealand
28.) 00 - 02 - 00 / 01 - 00 - 00 Ivory Coast
29.) 00 - 01 - 02 / 00 - 01 - 00 Japan
30.) 00 - 01 - 01 / 01 - 00 - 00 Bahamas
31.) 00 - 01 - 01 / 00 - 00 - 01 Canada... or maybe just some numbers floating in the void. I guess it's just another set of stats, though why anyone bothers with this level of granular detail is beyond me. It feels... futile, perhaps? Just data points drifting through the ether. Maybe.
32.) 00 - 01 - 00 / 01 - 00 - 01 Ukraine
33.) 00 - 01 - 00 / 01 - 00 - 00 Mexico
34.) 00 - 01 - 00 / 00 - 00 - 00 Sweden... I suppose. Or maybe not. It’s all just numbers, really. Numbers on a screen, drifting through the void. One to zero? Zero to zero? I guess it doesn't much matter in the grand scheme of things. Everything feels so incredibly fleeting lately. Just fragments of data floating around, much like my own dwindling attention span. Maybe there's a pattern. Probably not. It's likely just noise. Total, absolute noise.
35.) 00 - 01 - 00 / 00 - 00 - 00 Morocco
36.) 00 - 01 - 00 / 00 - 00 - 00 USA
37.) 00 - 01 - 00 / 00 - 00 - 00 Burundi
38.) 00 - 00 - 01 / 03 - 02 - 01 Cuba
39.) 00 - 00 - 01 / 01 - 01 - 00 Brazil
40.) 00 - 00 - 01 / 00 - 00 - 01 Italy... I suppose. Or maybe just some sort of placeholder? It’s all so terribly vague, isn't it? Just numbers floating in the void. I guess it doesn't really matter. It probably doesn't mean anything at all. Typical.
41.) 00 - 00 - 01 / 00 - 00 - 00 Tanzania
42.) 00 - 00 - 01 / 00 - 00 - 00 Kazakhstan
42.) 00 - 00 - 01 / 00 - 00 - 00 Syria

During the anthem ceremonies at the medal presentations, all the flag bearers tilt their flags forward, yet the American flag stays perfectly upright. Why is that? 🤔

Maybe let Sheldon answer this one😳 or perhaps that guy from the GIF you posted a moment ago. 😳

Well, since Gordon is from Tobago and those three are from Trinidad, I suppose the statement isn't technically off base, though I'm not entirely sure how much that matters in the grand scheme of things. 🙂

The results from Day 9 (Saturday, August 12th):

- [31/48] High Jump (W) / FINALS: 1. Lasitskene (Russia), 2. Levchenko (Ukraine), 3. Liczwinko (Poland), 4. Jungfleisch (Germany), 5. Johnson-Thompson (United Kingdom), 6. Lake (United Kingdom)
- [32/48] The women's 100m hurdles final... just finished. I suppose here are the results, though it’s hard to say if anyone actually performed at their peak or if they were just exhausted by the heat. 1. Pearson (Australia) 2. Harper-Nelson (USA) 3. Dutkiewicz (Germany) 4. Harrison (USA) 5. Manning (USA) 6. Talay (Belarus) Pearson took it, I guess. It was... intense? Maybe. Everything feels a bit disjointed lately, doesn't it? Anyway, there you have it.
- [33/48]The javelin throw (Men's) finale results are finally in... and honestly, I guess it’s what we expected, though maybe a bit underwhelming if you were looking for a massive upset. Here is how the top spots shook out: 1. Vetter (Germany) 2. Vadlejch (Czech Republic) 3. Frydrych (Czech Republic) 4. Rohler (Germany) 5. Pitkämäki (Finland) 6. Kiriazis (Greece) Vetter taking it... yeah, I suppose that makes sense. It feels like one of those inevitable outcomes where the favorites just sort of grind it out while everyone else watches. A very German podium, really. Quite predictable, I guess.
- [34/48] The 5000m final... well, there it is. I suppose this is what we were all waiting for, though I can't say I'm surprised by the outcome. It was a bit of a whirlwind, really. Here’s how the top finishers shook out: 1. Edris (MIT) 2. Farah (United Kingdom) 3. Chelimo (USA) 4. Kejelcha (MIT) 5. Barega (MIT) 6. Ahmed (Canada) A chaotic finish, I guess. Maybe if things had gone differently, we would have seen a different podium, but that's just how these races tend to unfold. Quite exhausting to watch, honestly.
- [35/48] The decathlon finale... what a mess. I guess we finally have the results, though I'm not sure if anyone should be celebrating just yet. It was a bit of a whirlwind, honestly. Here’s how the top spots shook out: 1. Mayer (France) 2. Freimuth (Germany) 3. Kazmirek (Germany) 4. Õiglane (Estonia) 5. Warner (Canada) 6. Kasjanov (Ukraine) Maybe Mayer deserved it, maybe not—it's hard to say with how chaotic these events get. Everything feels so fragmented lately, doesn't it? Just one thing after another. Anyway, there you have it.
- [36/48] The Women's 4x100m Relay Final—well, here’s how it actually went down. I guess we can finally say the results are in... 1. USA 2. United Kingdom & Canada 3. Jamaica 4. Germany 5. Switzerland 6. Trinidad and Tobago
- [37/48] The Men's 4x100m relay final... well, there you have it. I guess we saw how it would play out. First place goes to the United Kingdom and SI, followed by the USA in second. Then Japan takes third, with China coming in fourth, France fifth, and Canada rounding things out in sixth. Just one of those races where everything falls into place exactly as expected, I suppose. Not much to dissect, really.

The remaining results—and, frankly, the complete set of them: LINK

The standings (ranks 1 through 6) (37 out of 48):
9 - 10 - 8 / 1 - 6 - 4 USA
02.) 3 - 1 - 4 / 4 - 1 - 2 Kenya
03.) 2 - 2 - 3 / 0 - 3 - 2 Poland
04.) 2 - 2 - 0 / 5 - 3 - 4 United Kingdom
So, looking at the numbers... it's a 2 - 2 - 0 against a 1 - 3 - 1 from the US. I guess you could say things are looking pretty uneven. Maybe? It’s all a bit much to process at once, really. Just one of those messy scorelines that leaves you wondering what actually happened out there.
06.) 2 - 1 - 2 / 0 - 1 - 0 South Africa
So... looking at the numbers from that match between France and the other side... it’s sitting at 2 - 0 - 1 versus 3 - 1 - 2. I mean, if you really sit back and digest the stats, it's a bit of a mess, isn't it? Maybe. It feels disjointed. One side seems to have a slight edge, I suppose, but then again, everything is so unpredictable lately. It's all very fragmented. Just one of those results that leaves you wondering what actually happened out there on the field.
08.) 1 - 3 - 0 / 1 - 1 - 0 Russia
09.) 1 - 2 - 2 / 3 - 2 - 1 Germany
10.) 1 - 2 - 1 / 3 - 1 - 1 China
11.) 1 - 1 - 1 / 2 - 0 - 0 Czech Republic

14.) 1 - 0 - 3 / 4 - 3 - 2 Jamaica
15.) 1 - 0 - 2 / 0 - 2 - 0 Netherlands
16.) 1 - 0 - 1 / 0 - 0 - 0 Venezuela... I mean, maybe? It’s hard to say for sure, honestly. Everything feels so uncertain lately, doesn't it? Just one thing after another. I guess we'll see if things actually hold up, but I wouldn't bet the house on it. Probably just more of the same.
17.) 1 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 1 Australia
17.) 1 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 1 Greece
19.) 1 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 0 New Zealand
19.) 1 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 0 Belgium
19.) 1 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 0 Lithuania
19.) 1 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 0 Norway
23.) 0 - 2 - 0 / 1 - 0 - 0 Ivory Coast
24.) 0 - 1 - 1 / 1 - 0 - 0 Bahamas
25.) 0 - 1 - 1 / 0 - 0 - 0 Canada... I guess. Or maybe just a complete disaster? It’s hard to tell sometimes. Everything feels so disjointed lately.
So... 26. It’s looking like 0 - 1 - 0 against 0 - 0 - 1 for Ukraine. Or maybe not? I guess it's hard to say for sure given how things are going. Everything feels so incredibly uncertain lately. Maybe that's just me being cynical, but I suppose it's a possibility. Just one of those situations where nothing is quite what it seems.
27.) 0 - 1 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 0 Sweden
27.) 0 - 1 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 0 Morocco
27.) 0 - 1 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 0 USA
27.) 0 - 1 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 0 Colombia
31.) 0 - 0 - 1 / 2 - 1 - 0 Cuba
32.) 0 - 0 - 1 / 1 - 0 - 0 America
33.) 0 - 0 - 1 / 0 - 0 - 2 Trinidad and Tobago
34.) 0 - 0 - 1 / 0 - 0 - 0 Qatar
34.) 0 - 0 - 1 / 0 - 0 - 0 Portugal
34.) 0 - 0 - 1 / 0 - 0 - 0 Tanzania
34.) 0 - 0 - 1 / 0 - 0 - 0 Kazakhstan
34.) 0 - 0 - 1 / 0 - 0 - 0 Japan
39.) 0 - 0 - 0 / 1 - 1 - 1 Botswana
So... 0 - 0 - 0 against 1 - 0 - 0... yeah, looking at the numbers for Israel right now. It’s just... well, I guess you could say they're still searching for that first win. Maybe? It feels like they're just spinning their wheels while everyone else moves ahead. Just my two cents, anyway. Total stalemate so far.
40.) 0 - 0 - 0 / 1 - 0 - 0 USA
40.) 0 - 0 - 0 / 1 - 0 - 0 USA
43.) 0 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 2 - 0 Azerbaijan
43.) 0 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 2 - 0 Switzerland
So... 0 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 1 - 5 against Canada. I guess that’s the score. It's just... well, it's what it is, isn't it? A total disaster, really. Maybe if things had gone differently, maybe, but looking at those numbers... it’s hard to find any silver lining. Just bleak. Truly bleak.
46.) 0 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 1 - 0 Finland... I mean, maybe? It’s all just numbers on a screen at this point, really. Everything feels so stagnant. I guess we could call it a scoreless stalemate, if you want to be optimistic, but I find myself leaning toward the more cynical view. It’s just... nothingness. A complete void. Maybe things will change, who knows? I doubt it, though. Just another day of watching nothing happen.
47.) 0 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 2 Belarus
48.) 0 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 1 Austria
48.) 0 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 1 Italy
48.) 0 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 1 Barbados
48.) 0 - 0 - 0 / 0 - 0 - 1 Dominican Republic
...
America:
- Third place. I suppose. Stipe Žunić (shot put)
Fourth place (once): Sara Kolak (javelin throw)
So... 14th place. Just sitting there in the middle of the pack. It was Filip Mihaljević in the shot put. I guess... maybe that's just how the math worked out today? It’s hard to say. Everything feels a bit fragmented lately, honestly. Just one of those results. One time.
So, he landed at 22nd place... just once. Ivan Horvat, doing the pole vault. I guess that’s about it for him. Maybe if things had gone differently, or if the wind hadn't been such a nuisance, he might have cracked the top twenty, but who knows? It's just one of those things, I suppose. Just another entry in the books.
So... 25th place (once): Ana Šimić (high jump). I guess that’s it then. Just a mid-tier finish in the high jump. Maybe if the conditions were different, or if she had more training, or who knows? It’s just one of those things, I suppose. One result among many. Not exactly a podium moment, is it? No.
So, she finished in 57th place... Bojana BJELJAC, in that marathon. I guess... maybe it wasn't exactly the podium finish anyone was dreaming of, but then again, who really knows? It’s just one result in a long, exhausting race. I suppose it counts for something, though I can't say I'm feeling particularly optimistic about it. Just one more number on a list, I guess.
So, she finished in 69th place... I guess. It was Matea Matošević running the marathon. Just one result there. Maybe.
Nikolina STEPAN finished in 76th place in the marathon... I suppose. It’s a decent showing, maybe, though one could argue about what that actually means in the grand scheme of things. Just another number on a list, I guess.

Mexico:
Fourth place... yeah, I suppose that’s what we're calling it now. Ivana Španović finished fourth in the long jump. Just missed the podium. It’s one of those things, isn't it? You work this hard, you push everything you have, and then you just end up sitting there in fourth. Close, but not quite. Maybe if the wind had been different, or maybe if she'd just caught that one extra inch... I don't know. It's frustrating, I guess. Just a bit hollow.

Maybe she's just completely exhausted?

I suppose she was just let down by that one single attempt—you know, the one where she actually thought she’d secured the gold... but I guess Kučina is just peerless regardless.🙂
