Mistaken wire transfer/payment error in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Thomas Ortiz3 said:It can't be classified as salary since the user doesn't have an employment contract or any formal relationship with the company. They could declare it as a personal loan or a receivable from an individual. It would be much better for them to structure it as a debt recovery rather than income; if it's income, all those taxes kick in, whereas a loan only requires them to account for the minimum interest required by law. An accountant handles interest on a loan to an individual just like any other private loan. If the user denies the debt exists, they'll be stuck recording it based on a court order... though I'm not entirely sure how that works. 🤷
If a court eventually rules that there was no legal basis for the transfer—perhaps citing gross negligence or the intentional misuse of funds—then Company X might finally be able to write it off as a business expense.

If I'm following this correctly, the company was trying to pay its employee via the IRS, so from the business's perspective, it's a formal liability that triggers all those taxes and withholdings.
I honestly think it would be a hell of a lot simpler for everyone involved if they just handed the difference to the employee in cash—since the forum guy can't pull it from his account anyway—and then worked out a side deal with the forum guy himself.
The main point is that the forum guy has zero official connection to that company.

When claims can't be collected, or when they end up tied up in legal battles, they just get moved over to the "Doubtful and Disputed Receivables" account.

Thomas Ortiz3 said:The bank is essentially just acting as a middleman trying to settle things without dragging the courts into it, which should benefit everyone involved. We also have to consider that a company can't just write off a mistaken transaction as a simple expense; there's a real risk they'll be stuck paying taxes and payroll contributions on that amount...

The bank could just as easily claim they don't give a damn because it's none of their business, but if Company A files a formal complaint, I don't see things going well for our colleague here. It's better if they reach an agreement. An admission of debt followed by installment payments sounds like a reasonable compromise...

Obviously, the company can't just write this off because we're talking about a payroll disbursement, and you can't dodge the taxes, withholdings, or social security contributions on that.
The only real way out is for the employer to just pay the difference—the part our guy doesn't actually have in his account because it got hit by a garnishment—directly in cash to the employee who was supposed to receive the full amount. That way, the worker isn't shortchanged and stays out of trouble, and the company doesn't have to chase our forum buddy, who isn't even at fault here, even though he technically owes the money.
That's the only move left—just sit down and make a deal, because I'm pretty sure there isn't a specific Law that dictates how to handle a mess this weird.

Man, I was just about to bring this exact point up
If we aren't talking about some basic over-the-counter cash deposit, but rather a wire transfer, then there’s almost zero chance the bank actually screwed up here. See, wire transfers involve a double-check system where everything is processed twice; you’ve got one employee entering the data and another validating it, so the odds of both of them fat-fingering the exact same number are basically non-existent. This points straight back to a mistake on the original payment order itself.

In a situation like this, the bank really needs to coordinate with Company A, since they were the ones who issued the payment order. It’s a messy one because we’re dealing with an account that’s been frozen due to a legal levy, but if that's all a misunderstanding, it should be simple—the account holder would just sign a waiver stating the funds aren't theirs and authorizing the transfer to the rightful recipient, provided Company A can prove the payment order was filled out wrong in the first place.

Chris Doyle4 said:Let’s just say I’m currently the victim of some seriously amateurish business from a bank teller who—honestly—I have nothing but bad things to say about.
I’ve got a garnishment sitting on my checking account for $500, but since I’m unemployed and already deep in the red, both the garnishment and my overdraft limit are basically frozen until my next deposit hits.
What happened next was anything but fair. The teller I dealt with at the window—the one who was being incredibly condescending and arrogant just because she could see my financial situation is a mess—made a massive, fatal blunder while I was trying to pay down my balance.
She incorrectly processed an amount of $1000 to my account, which technically cleared my negative balance, but then the whole thing backfired: the automated garnishment triggered and sucked out $500—and it wasn't even my fault! Right now, my available balance shows as $500, but that money isn't actually mine; it’s just a mistake sitting in my account.
Now, this same person calls me today, acting all high and mighty, telling me I need to drag myself down to the branch in 12 miles within twenty minutes to sign some paperwork that gives them permission to take back the funds they mismanaged. Okay, I get what they want, but here’s the kicker: I don't have enough cash left in the account because the garnishment wiped me out due to *their* error.
So, what’s the move here? What are my chances if I don't show up and sign this thing? Getting to the bank is a massive luxury right now—something I absolutely cannot afford given my current state.$500Can I just stall?
What can the bank actually do to me if I refuse to sign? This is clearly their screw-up, not mine. Since my American Express is linked to the account, can they shut that down if I don't sign their little document? And can they just forcibly pull money from my account?
Because if they do, I am truly screwed—if the bank pulls more money, I’ll end up $1,500 in an unauthorized overdraft...
Has anyone ever dealt with something like this? What are my actual rights when this happens entirely through "no fault of my own," especially since I had zero clue what was happening in the moment?
Thanks

Don't sweat it too much; you aren't going to hand over that $500 which you don't even have and shouldn't be expected to have.
$50 will take it, but it's not yours anyway, and that $1500 issue will be handled by the employee who botched the entry; they'll file an internal report where the staff member essentially commits to fixing the error out of their own pocket.

Believe it or not, these kinds of blunders happen all the time in the banking system, and the employees always have to answer for the surplus or the deficit—especially if we're talking about a teller deposit, which seems to be the case here.

Alright, alright, let’s just take a collective breath for a second here...

You guys have already flexed your muscles, brought us all to our knees, and forced your way into how we do things, but honestly? This isn't some big joke to us, and it sure as hell isn't easy to swallow like you seem to think it is.

Just stop the constant bickering and the aggressive gatekeeping for a minute; let's all just sleep on this one, and maybe tomorrow you can come back with a decision that actually makes sense.

It’s honestly pretty shady to just wipe out so much of the discussion like that.

Thanks!

Well, here I am popping back up again, mostly because my inbox is absolutely drowning in pity parties from everyone on this forum wondering why on earth they’d ban the Ask me Memnu thread.

It’s a straight-up insult to all of us.

We were such a tight-knit group, riding the wave of an incredible series, and honestly, life on this forum was smooth sailing; we took our fair share of penalties, shrugged them off, and moved on, but this feels less like moderation and more like some power trip for the sake of pure ego.

I’m just bitter about the whole thing.
I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d see something like this actually happen here.

lonemoose6, yeah—look, I actually reached out to Ben Marshall to ask if he could tweak the layout for Ask me Memnu 2 a little bit, you know, making the opening post act as a hub with links to the reading material for Vol.1 and Unshown; I even handed him a full list of track links, download spots, lyrics, and direct links to every single episode on DailyMotion... basically everything people constantly nag us for.

I don't have a problem with whoever posted first—honestly, good for her—but the post is way too personal and drags on forever without providing any actual context for the tema, which is exactly what we were debating when we got told the thread would be shut down anyway because it hit the 10,000-post limit.

Some person probably flagged that initial post as being "inappropriate" for the start of Vol.2, and apparently, someone high up got their feathers ruffled seeing that many reports piled up over just three pages, which shouldn't even be a valid reason to lock a thread in the first place.
And now, suddenly, we're all branded as troublemakers.
For what??
Because we want a thread that’s actually organized and easy to navigate??

🤷

There you have it.

Look, let’s be real, we weren't exactly thrilled because the opening post was just some personal rant instead of a useful list of links, which is what we actually need—especially if we're moving over to the new Ask me Memnu 2

But honestly, that shouldn't even be a valid excuse to lock the whole thread down!!
There isn't just one single moderator running this show, so if one person isn't in the mood to clean things up right now, there are plenty of other mods who could easily step in and handle it!!

I'm pretty sure we'll get this sorted out eventually, because at the end of the day, this series and all of us deserve better than this!

I took this one personally, honestly, and I’m sitting here feeling like I’ve been dealt a massive, unfair hand.
Hitting the 10k post milestone - what's next? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’m asking the exact same thing.

And honestly, looking back at that previous tema, there wasn't a single shred of insults or trolling to be found; there just wasn't any room for that kind of negativity in a discussion that was actually pleasant, engaging, and genuinely lively.

The series—and by extension, the forum thread—had a massive following, with a huge crowd of daily female users and a decent amount of guys jumping in too, so the interest level would’ve stayed pretty much the same even after everything wrapped up. I don't see any logical reason why they decided to lock it down, especially since they did it even before the final episode reruns could start. It basically means those people who missed the original broadcast for whatever reason were totally shut out from sharing their feelings, their theories, their sadness, their excitement... or just their take on things.

I’d really appreciate it if someone could explain what exactly happened to trigger the locking of a thread that was perfectly fine just a few hours ago, and maybe offer some kind of solution.

Thanks.
What should I get for a godparent gift at a Baptism? in Students & Teens ·
Look, about nine years ago, I was the godmother for this girl I’ve known since she was practically in diapers, and honestly? I just completely bypassed all those stuffy old traditions and the whole "throwing money at people" thing because it felt like such a massive waste of cash. But let’s be real, being a godparent isn't some mindless role where you just follow a script; you can actually use your head and ask what the kid actually needs. So, I sat my goddaughter down and had a straight conversation with her, and back then, she had her heart set on a new phone, so that's exactly what I bought her instead.
Can I get an X-ray without insurance? in Health ·
Yeah, you hit the nail on the head there, just gotta deal with it and move on!!

Good luck. Let me know how that finger is doing!
Yeah, yeah, it’s still in the exact same spot and honestly, it's driving me up the wall. I’m gonna swing by a CVS or something in a bit to grab some over-the-counter stuff and see if that helps. But man, I’m genuinely stressing out here because it doesn't even itch, or sting, or change color or anything—it just looks like normal skin, though it feels a little weird, which is annoying enough. And let's be real, my pain tolerance is basically non-existent, so even the slightest discomfort feels like a massive deal to me.
Oh man, you guys aren't going to believe this, but a new pimple popped up immediately, and it’s the exact same size, shape, and color as the one from yesterday. It’s just skin-colored, too—no redness, no blue tint, nothing.
God, what a total disaster, what am I even supposed to do now? I can't bring myself to go see a doctor because the checkups at these clinics are absolutely pathetic, and honestly, I just don't have the energy for an exam like that.
Oh, I totally forgot to mention—I see Timothy Morgan38 is chiming in on that too, but honestly, I was dealing with some pretty nasty stomach issues last week, just a constant bout of diarrhea because there’s this bug going around right now and it feels like everyone in the country is catching it.
Even before this, I used to get hit with it occasionally, especially after a heavy night of drinking, but nothing ever felt quite like this.
So I’ve been scrolling through this entire thread, reading every single thing anyone has posted, and honestly, I’m just sitting here scratching my head wondering how on earth I ended up with this little "bump." My diet is supposedly textbook—I eat nothing but clean, healthy stuff, always starting the day with some oats or fruit, and I stick to oat, rice, or soy milk instead of dairy. It’s mostly just veggies and fish for me; I don't even touch meat. The only things I really season with are sea salt, olive oil, and maybe some parsley.
Basically, I’d feel this sensation popping up every now and then, but it would just vanish. Yesterday was the first time it actually hurt, or well, more like I could just definitely feel it there, but after reading all your experiences, I realized my situation isn't quite the same as yours. It isn't purple, it doesn't itch, it doesn't sting, and there's no bleeding involved.
I just stepped out of the bathroom, and thank god, everything went smoothly and was totally normal, and once I was done, that "bump" feeling just... disappeared!! So now what? Was that actually a hemorrhoid or is it something else entirely??
Because right now, I'm just sitting here and feeling absolutely nothing. Should I still be proactive about it though, like using that Anthropic soap or maybe some kind of cream, you know?
Personal loans for contract employees in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I honestly feel like if they aren't breathing down your neck for an employment contract—which, let's be real, they usually aren't—then it really just boils down to whatever you and your boss can hash out behind closed doors regarding whether they'll check the box on your loan application to say you're on a permanent track. That's assuming you actually have a job in the private sector to begin with, anyway.

Maybe try Bank of America. They seem to be playing the most flexible game in the market right now.
Look, I don't even touch tomatoes, so whether they're packed with nutrients or whatever, I really couldn't care less, and when it comes to my greens, I pretty much stick to the local farmers' markets where I actually know the growers, because honestly, you've always got to take a gamble with food these days, isn't that just how it works? Nothing out there is truly "healthy" anymore, but I guess some things are still slightly better than others if you're looking for that silver lining.

Does it actually matter which brand you pick up, or is it all basically the same stuff?

Just hit up a decent health food store... like Whole Foods or something.
Starting an LLC: Where to begin? in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
banderas, you didn't even finish quoting me, so honestly, your whole point is pretty much moot
I mean, sure, look, it doesn't have to be registered with the IRS if they aren't hitting that $28333 threshold, but if this person is actually planning on opening a legitimate business with real overhead and major capital investments, then being in the tax system is a total no-brainer. It’s just better strategy.
You want to know why??
Starting an LLC: Where to begin? in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
.keskin. So why on earth would you go the LLC route specifically?
The overhead is going to hit you way harder than if you just started as a sole proprietorship, though the upside is you’re immediately plugged into the IRS system for tax credits and stuff.
I don't even know what kind of business you're looking to launch, but if you're planning on heavy upfront investments—you know, buying equipment, machinery, or fleet vehicles to get the job done—then honestly, why wouldn't you just stick with a sole proprietorship?
What kind of degree or training are we talking about here??
And what exactly is the game plan for the actual work?
Look, you can totally run an LLC while being a W-2 employee at some other company, and you could do the exact same thing with a sole proprietorship, so that's not really a deciding factor.

This whole topic is a bit of a rabbit hole, honestly; there are costs hiding everywhere, and you really need to have a solid grasp on both accounting and the legal side of things before you decide what you actually want to deal with.
Anyway, if you've got more questions, just throw them my way, I'm happy to help out.
