one side’s got a bucket of water ready to go, while the other is surrounded by paper and plastic trash
one’s downwind, and the wind is just carrying all that filth right toward the other guy...
can we just call these two nothing more than two different ways to ruin a BBQ??
😉
some people will jump in and say you aren't even allowed to fire up a grill in the summer
others will probably wonder why we're only talking about it during the summer months
then there's a third group who will argue that since we're heading toward joining whatever European regulatory mess comes next, they should just ban grilling across the entire continent
I think you get where I'm going with this, even if you're finding it a bit difficult to admit
it doesn't matter, at least be honest with yourself
🙂
No matter how you spin it, there’s always going to be some bureaucrat somewhere who feels the need to step in and ban the damn BBQ
and it isn't because they have a personal vendetta against people trying to have a good time, it’s actually for much heavier reasons than that
What those party-goers can't seem to grasp is that those reasons don't change the fundamental reality of what's happening

Look, I’m not trying to be the admins' defense attorney here—especially since I don't even know half of them personally—but you people have massive, totally unrealistic expectations. Let’s get one thing straight right out of the gate: nobody here is getting paid. Everyone does this for the hell of it, including the admins. I’ll take this list and, without naming names because I don't want to start a war, give you the actual reality of the situation:
There are 20 people on this list.
2 of them are total strangers to me.
2 handle the server backend and have zero connection to the community side; they basically just act as moderators.
6 of them are just clones from some failed project long ago.
And yeah, blah blah, I won't go on forever, but looking at this entire list, I only see 2, maybe 3 people who actually show up. So that’s the administration problem right there. How can a forum with over 100,000 users, 300k threads, and 13M posts only have 3 active admins? It’s like they’re getting a paycheck or something, for god's sake.😁
What I’m trying to say is that all of you screaming about how admins should be these perfect little judges—try stepping into their shoes for a second. Let's say you’re the #1 admin and your main interest is Soccer. What the hell would you know about banning someone in Politics? Or Economics? How much do you actually follow Fashion or Cars?
You say, "Oh, it's easy to check." Yeah, right. Like hell it is. To really get to the bottom of a mess, you have to sink an insane amount of time into it, there's a mountain of complaints, and everyone is breathing down your neck waiting for an answer...
Do you get what I'm saying?🤷
Seriously, what kind of hierarchy is this where you have over 100 moderators and 20 bosses, yet maybe 3 are actually doing anything? It’s freaking impossible to run like that.🙂
It’s like the CEO of ExxonMobil worrying about why a single employee at a tiny gas station in rural Ohio is taking the company truck to go look at a vineyard.😁
Since having 20 active admins would be a total luxury, I think it’s a way better option for colleagues to just watch out for each other. For example, if I’m in the Soccer section, I’m definitely not going to jump to defend a colleague like unknown or unknown if I know they screwed up, just like I don't expect them to jump to my defense if I mess up. But damn, you guys hate that idea because you think we’re all best buddies just because we’re in the same group, the moderator group. You don't realize how massive and sprawling this forum is. I don't even know who the Economics moderator is; honestly, I don't even know where the Economics section is because I haven't spent four seconds there in four years...
Would you guys be open to a suggestion, like forming a "Moderator Council" to deal with mistakes? Basically, a council of 10 mods—one from Sports, one from IT, one from Society, one from... whatever, and maybe 2 admins. Then that council could discuss the complaints?
Now, some of you will call this garbage, and others will claim such a council would just protect the moderators anyway.😁
So what then? You gonna take it to the Supreme Court?🤷 Even then, it wouldn't be fair to anyone...
Man, I wouldn't abolish the FBI, I'd rather moderate like Adolf Hitler...
....
Ugh... I started writing all this detail and now I've lost interest. That's unknown's job, let him deal with it. I’m just gonna push my ideas through in Soccer and the Internet sections.🙂
* - Just so it doesn't look like I'm stealing someone else's thought, this idea has been on the moderators' radar for ages, but it just sat there. Nothing ever actually happened...
Rachel Sanchez11 said:Actually, I didn't say that...
I guess the FBI exists to funnel all that frustration into one tiny little corner where the cops don't even need long batons to crack down on whoever's at fault...
Everything else is just about keeping those click numbers up....
No doubt about it, this is easily the highest quality forum in the digital space right now. It’ll stay that way for a long time and keep its current traffic levels. And honestly, the guy running the show knows that all too well.
Look, the user base is already so huge that any move to squeeze out even another 10%—which is basically the ceiling anyway—would be massive. From a purely economic standpoint, it's just not worth the headache.
But, when you look at the sheer quality here and how this forum sits in the American online landscape, I feel like the owner owes it to us to make this a nicer, more ACCESSIBLE, better place to hang out.
The problem is, he'll probably never realize that it was you guys and your posts that actually made him the owner of the best forum around. He thinks he did it all himself.
Sure, he's set for success in the short term, but in the long run? I think he's totally missing the mark.
Rachel Sanchez11 said:Let's look at this situation.
An attack on a subforum should really be an attack on the moderator. But that shouldn't be the case here. hollowtrucker77 is actually one of the best mods we have on this site, even if I didn't think so when he first showed up. I guess I just didn't give him a full hundred days to prove himself, but man, he’s actually surprised me.
Secondly, the fact is that some weird hierarchy has taken over the forum lately; things have gotten way more heavy-handed (someone like the Administrator or whatever).
Thirdly, people are constantly complaining on the FBI section, and it’s become this standard routine where every single complaint gets brushed off as some "unserious attempt" to overthrow the mod—attempts that never work anyway, and almost none of these complaints ever lead to anything positive. Just a heads-up: hollowtrucker77 really tries to separate the wheat from the chaff, but he isn't getting any support from the higher-ups. His job is to moderate serious complaints, not to act as the final judge in them. And that’s what he does—he keeps the thread open, cleans out the spam and the parasites, but nobody from the people who are *supposed* to respond to the complaint shows up, so there's just silence for days.
Then, the people starting these threads lose their minds because they feel like nobody gives a damn about them—which, let's be honest, is true 😁—so they start going absolutely nuclear in every language possible. Then come the warnings, the points, the bans, and it turns out the user actually deserved the ban in the first place.
Fourthly, once, an admin called my constructive argument "acting like someone's lawyer" just because I was defending a certain right, and then she shut the whole thread down. I sent her a private message asking for an apology since I didn't consider myself anyone's lawyer. She didn't reply. And when I actually complimented her, saying it was nice to finally have an admin who actually responds to DMs, she shot back that she had better things to do than answer a PM where I was being all dramatic about wanting an apology. This tells you everything you need to know: this esteemed admin has much more important things to do than deal with your nonsense. She has the power, she uses it, and she never questions her own calls because, frankly, we aren't worth her time to sit and rethink things.
So, I've confirmed my suspicions, and I'll tell you guys again, though I've said it plenty of times already.
Reddit is privately owned and, honestly, it’s technically maintained pretty poorly. Since it’s private property, the owner can basically do whatever they want. Because of that, users don't have much ground to stand on when complaining about moderators and how they behave, because every single one of them was chosen by the owner to represent his interests and protect his property. When you look at it that way, every complaint is just a waste of breath.
So, that’s how it stands. Next time you feel the urge to complain, just remember that the moderators are working for free (well, maybe not for free—I actually started a thread about that on the psychology board once) and remember that the forum hasn't been running well for years. Seriously, call up any hosting service and ask what it would cost to host a forum like this. You’ll quickly realize the owner couldn't care less about the site, and if he doesn't care about the site, he doesn't care about the users. And if he doesn't care about the users, then the moderators are just his extended arm—they get the same "don't care" impulse from him, and so they don't care about you either. It always stinks from the top down.
You can choose to accept this reality, stay true to yourself, and be who you are despite it all. Or, you can spend hours here arguing in a losing battle. Because at the end of the day, this is a private forum...
You guys are just numbers. You are nothing more than unique clicks that the owner displays to advertisers. The only thing that makes you "unique" is the statistic: "we have x0,000 unique clicks every day." When you stop clicking, someone else will take your place. And that other person won't be any different from you, even if you're clicking based on some deep philosophy about topics that need to radically change the world, while that other guy is just some random teenager opening threads like: "I've never done it..."
And both you and he are just tiny clicks, one of thousands of others that make up the "strength" of this forum.
That’s why we shouldn't abolish the FBI section. It serves its purpose. It channels the dissatisfied people so they can be ignored. That is its function. Its job isn't to resolve a potential complaint. Maybe we should just rename it: "Wishes and Futile Complaints." Description: Complain all you want, and get banned...

1) Regarding the initial capital—is that just a "pro forma" thing on paper? Like, can I actually deposit that $25k and then just use it for something totally unrelated to my business?
2) Can an LLC operate in marketing or graphic design without hiring any employees? Also, is it possible to do wholesale or reselling (like, say, heavy machinery) without having staff on the payroll?
3) If the company doesn't have any employees, am I still on the hook for paying any kind of payroll taxes or contributions?
