wiredfalcon2 said:It’s hilarious how some people want to hand out tickets to elementary and middle schoolers, only for those kids to head North and look down on them like they're nothing. What the hell do they even know about the history of my club?

On the other hand, how am I supposed to contribute to the growth of American soccer by buying a ticket when my favorite club sells off their stars just to go pick up guys like Nowotny?

Look, the people lecturing us are the fans who show up just to scream in the stands. That’s not why I go to games. This whole debate is pointless because our motivations for going to matches and how we view the entire situation are completely different. I don't give a damn about Dinamo Chicago, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, or anyone else under the excuse of "supporting our club because it's ours." I couldn't care less about players making more money than I ever will just to play a game. For a while now, I've viewed soccer strictly as entertainment. I'm not about to drop even three bucks on something I don't actually care about.

Keep cheering for "your" team and spitting on the American league... :2up:

No, we’ll value it because it’s the literal definition of honesty, sportsmanship, and actual entertainment? 😂

Man, I've got half this forum on ignore. Some of these threads are just digital graveyards. Nothing worth reading. 🤣

Lawrence Mitchell2 said:Nah. But unlike certain keyboard warriors who just sit around shitting all over the internet, I actually show up to every single one of my team's games. 🙂

I haven't been to any lately and I couldn't care less. 🙂

But don't act shocked when our league turns into a complete joke... or why our clubs keep getting knocked out by teams from tiny little countries...
Because instead of all these "big shots" who claim to love the Yankees, the Dodgers, or Real Madrid actually showing up to the stadium, buying tickets, attracting sponsors, and leveling up our domestic league, they just sit around on the internet talking about soccer mafia and obsessing over Rio and guys like him...
Everyone’s an expert at talking trash, but nobody wants to show up to a game and actually help fix the mess...👎

So you're the one fixing American soccer now? 😂

Champions League or World Cup? in Soccer ·
The US and Trinidad and Tobago have basically zero chance of meeting up in the World Cup group stage. The US could easily slide through as a runner-up, but there's just no way T&T pulls that off. Look, the football played at the World Cup is the exact same stuff you see in the Champions League. You get the same amount of favorites, the same number of underdogs causing chaos, the same kind of massive upsets—like 🙄 seeing Levski play that aggressive style similar to how Saudi Arabia played in Germany—and the same heavy-hitting matches. It’s all the same game.

Look... you said you'd rather watch Barca-Milan than USA-Trinidad and Tobago. Really? So what's the move then—Italy-Brazil or Lille-Anderlecht? Germany-Argentina or Levski-Spartak? The way you're looking at this is just childish and naive.

Champions League is way better. Watching AC Milan vs. FC Barcelona is a much bigger thrill than watching USA vs. Trinidad and Tobago..

The USA and Trinidad and Tobago can't even play each other in the group stage at the World Cup. It’s pretty obvious you're a woman. I think I've made myself clear enough. 🙄

I want to! Especially after what happened yesterday. 🙂
Zachary Thompson2 said:There’s only one thing I don't get about this whole story... if people are supposedly so desperate for indie films or alternative spaces to watch movies—if they're actually doing protests and signing petitions—then why is the local arthouse theater usually empty? Why was Broadway dead during those Asian film screenings? Why was I the ONLY person at the screening of 'Hellraiser' at AMC??? And that wasn't even an obscure flick; a few American critics called it the best movie in theaters last year.

Don't get me wrong, I love going to the movies and it sucks that the Europa theater is closing, but clearly, from the owner's perspective, there just isn't enough interest in high-quality programming in America. At least not enough to keep a theater running.

On top of all that, you have to consider the fact that the petitions and protests are only starting now that everything is already finished. That shows how much people actually care. Now suddenly everyone has eyes wide open and they're screaming, "How could this happen?!!!" Your concern for these old theaters is just incredible. Honestly, God help us with activists like you and your "enlightened" crowd.

I'm being honest here. I don't give a damn about those theaters because I haven't stepped foot in one in at least two years, yet I go to the movies two or three times a month. Maybe I feel bad about losing the Washington, D.C. cinema, but when I really think about it, I haven't been in there for ages either. No point in lying to myself.
redowl90 said:Maybe one day, when you finally figure out who's actually pulling the strings behind AMC and playing us all for fools, you'll find yourself praying to God that this thread disappears and your post gets wiped from existence...

Uffff, thank God for free tickets!

Thank God I'm being enlightened by someone shamelessly shilling for the very distribution company that forces us to buy overpriced, redundant "ultimate editions" of the exact same movies that evil AMC is peddling.🤣
Maria Peterson said:You can't explain it to someone who calls moviegoers "customers." And he's actually proud of being treated like just another customer by AMC Theatres.

Your issue is you just can't wrap your head around the fact that people go where things are better. AMC Theatres is a BETTER cinema than any of those Chicago Cinema locations, which is why they ate them alive. They show both domestic and foreign films, plenty of stuff from Europe, and honestly, it's wild that anyone complains about their lineup. But hey, that's how this country works—you get what you deserve. Just a bunch of losers always blaming someone else for their own failures. Yeah, I'm a customer because I don't have free tickets. Unless there's some secret way to see new releases for zero dollars that I'm missing? Enlighten me. 🙄
Maria Peterson said:We might as well just shut down FC Barcelona right now. You claim they put on their own shows? Well, you're the one footing the bill for them. Those productions cost a fortune and they aren't even breaking even at the box office. Producing plays is basically just a money pit. Look, private theaters that actually follow business logic exist just fine. Why are we keeping FC Barcelona on life support? It’s non-profitable. Total waste.

In this country, the government is the only reason domestic movies even exist. So, saying people aren't investing in the film industry is complete nonsense. Huge amounts of taxpayer money are being dumped into absolute garbage—the average American indie film costs about $1.6 million. If they managed their budget a little better, there might actually be enough left over to maintain the cinemas. You guys make it sound so simple, like it's all the fault of the people working in the industry. Honestly, you're barking up the wrong tree.

blueranger12 said:Nah, he's just the kind of guy who watches trash movies because they represent the absolute peak of his cultural evolution. It’s people like him that cause even more garbage to be made every single year, and for some bizarre reason, the audience never seems to run out of interest in them. 🙂

Exactly. You hit the nail right on the head. 🙂 I'm grabbing my gun and then I'm gonna 🙂
Jose Miller17 said:You clearly didn't read her post where she explains why that isn't an 'incredibly stupid opinion.' Why shouldn't the government subsidize things that serve the public interest? That's literally why you pay taxes. (Though I doubt you even care enough to check.)
What's the deal with FC Barcelona? Should we just sell off every cultural landmark that doesn't turn a profit?

The government should step in only when there's no other option, and here, there is one because great private cinemas already exist. FC Barcelona and a movie theater aren't the same thing; FC Barcelona produces its own shows, which you can't say about cinemas. Too much money is being wasted on pathetic American films—just enough to keep funding theaters that nobody even visits.
Jose Miller17 said:Didn't you just claim they were only there for the 'customers'?
...
Plus, how can you say you relate and then immediately disagree? What exactly don't you agree with regarding what Maria Peterson said in her last two posts?

It’s an incredibly stupid take to think city hall should be running movie theaters. Now that nothing unprofitable can survive, she thinks we should keep them open just out of pure nostalgia—even though nobody actually goes to them (which is the literal only reason they're closing). You have to cover directing, film rights, payroll, and all that stuff somehow, and that money comes from ticket sales and ads. And now people are blaming the lack of AMC Theatres for a drop in ads, even though those theaters had ads too. Honestly, sometimes I feel like I'm arguing on this forum with people who never leave their houses and have zero clue how the real world works. Is the city supposed to keep theaters open if they can't even pay the staff? 👏 👏 👏
Look, not many people are actually on your side here.
Maria Peterson said:if you actually think they care about their customers, then I guess we’ll never see eye to eye

Give me a break. What is that even supposed to mean? From where I'm sitting, AMC Theatres is packed almost every single day. Things are a lot simpler than people want to admit. If you know what you're doing and you have something worth watching, the theaters are full. If you don't, they stay empty. AMC Theatres is a fantastic cinema; I love going there. Honestly, listening to pseudo-philosophers like you just gives me a headache. People like you are never satisfied. You're always hunting for something that isn't even there.
Maria Peterson said:But wouldn't it be nice to actually have a choice? Is nobody on this forum nostalgic for those old theaters in Europe or Washington, D.C. (which could be just as cozy as AMC Theatres)? Does every single bit of film programming in this city—everything repertory—have to be pure commerce and capitalism? Because theoretically, Broadway and AMC Theatres could just collude to jack up ticket prices to $17 and you’d have zero choice but to pay up or stop watching movies entirely.

What are you even talking about? What is there to be nostalgic for? A theater is a theater. You've got a big screen, a projector, and a bunch of seats. Ticket prices were basically the same, the movies were the same, and the location was just as good. Except AMC Theatres and Broadway actually give a damn about their customers. They have stuff like online booking, discount cards, free garage parking, organized screenings, and all that. If you're feeling nostalgic for the flaws of old-school cinemas, the problem is you, not the new theaters that are a hundred times better than the old ones. Whatever.
