It’s the fans who are actually out there fighting to keep this sport from turning into some soulless corporate machine—trying to make sure players actually play with heart, for the badge, for the city, and for the people, instead of just chasing a paycheck. But then you’ve got these suits who treat football like nothing more than a massive money-making scheme... they’re basically at war with the fans because we're the ones standing in the way of them lining their pockets and completely gutting the game.
It pisses me off the most when they slap a club with a stadium ban and force them to play in front of an empty house... I mean, what's even the point then? Is the game played just for the guys on the pitch? Or are the players there for the fans? Honestly, the whole thing is just going down the drain...
Where are the days of glory and pride? Where did they go?
What are you even talking about? Soccer is a business today, plain and simple. Just like any other industry. The board and the players are employees whose goal is to earn a living. A player's job is to play the game, get better, and attract viewers and sponsors. The board's job is to manage the finances and build the roster. Players aren't necessarily from the same city as the club, and the money doesn't just come from one local area either. There is zero difference between the film industry and the sports industry now. You pour big money in to get even more back, and the goal is to make a product that people actually want to consume. Soccer isn't played for the fans; it never was and it never will be. Players train, travel, and play matches every single day to collect huge paychecks. They play in front of ten people or ten thousand; it makes no difference to them. As long as they play fair and don't cheat, I'm fine with it. That's the whole point. Do you think Janica is skiing slalom for you? Or Edward scoring goals for you? Aside from some polite "thanks for the support" nonsense, there's nothing connecting them unless you're family or a friend. Having this idea that you HAVE to go watch LA Galaxy or Philadelphia Eagles every week just to count your attendance and brag about it... I don't know, I'm not impressed and I don't care. I watch what I want, when I want. I see people who think there's only one "right" way to be a fan, but logic says otherwise. And once you add flares, thrown chairs, political slogans, and all that other garbage, I seriously don't see how that has anything to do with an Edward and Luka Modrić one-two pass or
Loser's defense. Maybe it mattered back when everyone at LA Galaxy was from Washington, D.C., playing like semi-pros before TV deals and sponsors existed, but that's not the reality today. You play on the field, you win the game, and then suddenly you're barred from advancing because twenty idiots got into a brawl that had nothing to do with what happened on the pitch. Everyone except the fans wants to destroy soccer? That's some terrible logic if those same people rely on the sport to survive. These theories are fascinating, though I doubt even the people making them understand them. 🤣
