It’s probably because you were being disrespectful over on that other thread. The username doesn't really matter at this point. You went after one of our regular community members on that platform, and that's exactly why you're getting a strike here. If you had some kind of issue with her there, you should have handled it there—either by dealing with it privately or just reporting it to the moderator on that site, instead of dragging a whole argument from another forum over here to our doorstep. That's not our business... But it becomes our business the moment you start attacking our own members or the mods right here on our home turf.
And that second strike? That was strictly for continuing to troll after you were already given a warning.
Mary didn't pass the ball... We aren't all online at the exact same moment, you know... when she's hanging out on the site, she handles the moderation, and when I'm around, I take over the reins... She was the one who cleared out most of those posts today while I was away from my desk... I personally stepped in to delete a few and issued two bans—one for being insulting and another for ignoring a moderator's warning—once I logged on...
You can chat about pretty much anything you want, but trolling, being disrespectful, or dragging out endless debates about how we moderate just isn't allowed... everything is laid out clearly in the rules (which, by the way, apply to the whole community, not just our little PDF document)... If you have specific questions regarding moderation, please just shoot a moderator a private message or start a new thread over in the General Discussion section... Like I said before, we ALWAYS get back to you...
Carol Hernandez94, I had to clear out those posts you made right after the moderator warning, especially the ones where things got a little too personal and disrespectful... Just a heads-up, we don't discuss moderation or ask questions about how the mods handle things here in the chat. Plus, you haven't actually brought up a valid point or a specific grievance... It really just feels like your whole argument boils down to the fact that you don't like me, and honestly, while I know I won't be everyone's cup of tea, that doesn't have anything to do with how we moderate this community!
I stand firmly behind every single red card I hand out, and since the admins can see everything—including all the deleted content—it’s incredibly easy for them to verify exactly what was removed, why it happened, and how many warnings were given before a card was issued...
Every single time you've reached out with a legitimate question regarding a ban or our specific mod procedures, you've received a clear answer...
As for how Mary handles her business, you’ll need to take that up with her directly, because her style of moderating is entirely her own, just as mine is my own... She isn't responsible for my actions, and I certainly am not responsible for hers!
@ Dead Man Walking... I honestly have no clue what she wrote because I only popped onto that other forum once just to see what was going on, and that was it!
If Mary was being insulted over there, you really ought to reach out to the moderators of that specific forum and ask them to penalize the offensive post, right? Why would you even ask us about it? We don't have any authority over what happens on a different board... I only look out for things happening here. And James got a warning because he was being insulting right here on our turf, which felt totally unnecessary... If someone is getting under someone else's skin, they should either a) just ignore them or b) start a thread here and file a formal complaint. I truly try not to hand out warnings for nothing, and honestly, I'm trying my best to use them as sparingly as possible... But if someone isn't following the rules, then yeah, warnings are definitely expected. There has to be some level of normal communication and basic politeness, after all...
And, by the way, how could I possibly be supporting Mary? Mary is my co-moderator, so I don't make her decisions for her. You’ll have to take that up with her directly instead of coming to me... I was simply answering James regarding his OWN warning, which is the one I personally issued to him. I can't speak for anyone else...
Exactly, that wasn't meant as trolling, it was actually just a direct insult to the members here. I went with the trolling route because it earns fewer points, but if you really want me to change my approach, we can easily switch things up... just say the word. (The user papilona is actually using Mary Carica's nickname on another forum, so let's be real, it’s a total insult, even if it is thinly disguised.) I honestly don't know how you can even have the nerve to lash out like that... just try being decent and people will be decent to you. Don't give me any reason to hand out warnings, and you won't see any... it's really as simple as that.
David Jones said:No. It would have been much fairer if you had been penalized just like any other regular forum user.🙂
And anyone with half a brain can see those bans were only issued because users kept complaining and filing grievances.🤷
A few people have already pointed this out—the moderators are supposed to set the standard for everyone else. If they act arrogant or disrespectful (and I mean the whole mod team, not just you), they can't expect anything different from the rest of us. They either need to be disciplined or step down from moderation entirely; there have been plenty of examples and complaints on the PŽK, yet nothing ever gets resolved. People keep posting and posting on this thread, and frankly, everyone is getting sick of rehashing the exact same thing without seeing any actual progress.
That’s what bothers me most—the sheer arrogance and rudeness of the mods, trying to prove points when they don't even have a clue what they're talking about or who they're talking to.🤷
You are actually the perfect example of what I’m talking about. So, be honest: what was going through your head when you started chatting? To me, it looked like you thought, "Let's just mess around on KZB because we can, while everyone else has to follow the rules." Sorry, maybe I'm wrong.🤣
Like I’ve said before, most of the moderators around here don't have a single strike on their record and they're honestly such model citizens... which really makes them the perfect example for everyone else to follow... So, I was just wondering... what makes you think the moderators act so arrogant and rude like that...? I really do try my best to be kind to everyone here and answer any questions that come my way, but let’s be real—if someone comes at me with an attitude or starts being downright rude, they can't exactly expect me to stay sweet... I honestly think most of the moderators feel the exact same way about it too...
You’re actually the perfect example of what I was talking about, so please be honest with me—what was going through your head when you all started chatting? To me, it honestly felt like everyone was just jumping onto the KzB boards to mess around because they knew they could get away with it while nobody else is allowed to... though, sorry, maybe I've got that all wrong... 🤣
I can only speak for myself here, but I really do believe this applies to everyone else too... I honestly only started chatting because I was bored out of my mind since I couldn't access anything else on the forum. It wasn't some arrogant move to try and prove to everyone how much influence I have or show off my status here... it’s just that I was sitting around with nothing to do, locked out of the main boards, so I figured I'd just come over here and ramble a little bit... My colleagues actually stopped by to say hi, though they were a little shocked to see me acting like such a total goofball. It’s actually kind of a big deal, too... this is officially my first Ban in ten years of being an active member and moderator... 😬 So, there really isn't any talk about anyone being arrogant or acting all high and mighty...
Linda Rodriguez38 said:Steven Ruiz, we don't think that's enough. When a cop messes up their duty, they get suspended way harsher than a regular civilian would, right? You guys are the officers here—just take your suspensions honorably for a bit.
Honestly, based on a few posts, I've already pegged you—you've definitely got a backbone.😉
Who exactly is this "we"? Well, "my" folks over at Photography think my time away was more than enough, and they gave me such a warm welcome back because they missed me... what do you think about that? 😁
Marcelina, something actually WAS done here. The real issue is just that you (and a few others) are looking for even more than what’s on the table. I mean, really, think about it... if nothing had been accomplished, it would be a total disaster. But now that things are moving, everyone is suddenly demanding the moon...
You know that old saying... don't go looking for extra bread when you've already got a feast on the table...?😉
Linda Rodriguez38 said:Personally, I love that you're owning up to your mistake look, you messed up once you leaked the Prime Minister's info publicly and that whole chat on the KzB thing--how did you call it? I get it, it was just a joke, totally obvious to me but you CAN'T mess around like that—just like we can't—because it ends up extending our bans too! YOUR COLLEAGUES ARE EVEN WORSE Come on, be adults and give yourselves a 3-day ban if you do that, we'll all respect you
I can't, and honestly, that's true... but we've already been punished once. So why should we keep punishing ourselves with another three-day ban? For what reason? We already served our time. For most of us, this was basically our first strike or first Ban in our entire history on this forum... I'm sorry, but there really isn't any logic in handing out such draconian punishments for a first mistake...
Even with the PDF files I manage, I don't hand out strikes or Bans for the very first error... First, you get a warning, then a yellow card, and finally a red one... So by what logic do we get an immediate Ban?... We've already received the red card, and that's more than enough...
Linda Rodriguez38 said:We’d love it if you actually took us seriously—you know, by actually following the same rules you expect us to follow! zišku 😁 but when you don't, then we deserve to be punished a hundred times over! 😍
In about 99% of cases, that’s exactly how it goes. But hey, everyone gets a little bit of a hard time sometimes, including me and all the other moderators. To be honest, I can't even remember the last time I got called out in all my years of moderating... but man... right from the start...
and when you don't do that just to get hit with a hundredfold penalty😍
...then why on earth should I pay (or anyone else, really) a hundred times more if I'm otherwise an exemplary member of the community? It just doesn't make any sense! Even in real life, it's such a relief when you're given a pass for making a mistake for the first time... 😉
There’s just one thing I can’t quite wrap my head around here. How is it that when the moderators pick up those 30 points, everyone suddenly calls them "passionate" or a "major achievement," yet the moment a regular user gets them, it sparks months of endless debates about moderator bias and unfairness? I mean, if they aren't considered passionate for everyone else, then I guess they aren't really passionate at all, right? 😉
Linda Rodriguez38 said:But when regular users do that, their Ban gets extended, doesn't it, Steven Ruiz?
Honestly, I can't say I've ever actually seen that happen before... I went ahead and looked into why bans get extended in the first place.
It’s not exactly unheard of for someone to think they got banned for one thing and go telling everyone that's the reason, when they actually got hit for something else entirely... Specifically, I had a situation today on the diaspora forum where a user was insisting her ban for trolling was totally baseless because she was just talking about some tennis player, and she couldn't see how that was trolling, but the reality was she actually insulted another user in that same thread and provoked a full-on argument... Luckily, since we mods have access to the archived posts, I was able to check everything immediately and see exactly what went down...
Linda Rodriguez38 said:Steven Ruiz, I was catching up on your posts later and realized you're basically a mod with an attitude! come on, be real—was that actually a way to handle it?
Well, like I said, it wasn't. But then again, we all got punished too... And honestly, don't even try to play dumb here...
So, what's the real issue here? Would you guys really prefer it if we hadn't been penalized at all?
Linda Rodriguez38 said:Steven Ruiz The thing is—you guys AREN'T just regular forum users, right? Honestly, you should be facing way tougher sanctions because the vibe you're putting out there is just... wow. Such a bad look for everyone! No offense intended! Even after getting banned—you guys just wouldn't stop chatting for free, would you? 😂 Daniel Ward87Honestly, thanks for the concern—really! But maybe the only thing that actually bothers people is that I’m not an idiot and I actually have the guts to say what's on my mind?
Wait, what happened to Marčelina? Anyone know the scoop?
That’s just not how it went down at all... The thread was actually closed at the exact same moment the bans were issued...
Steven Reed said:The issue is that when I broke the subforum rules, I was hit with a hundred days instead of thirty. 😉 And there's also the fact that if users start chatting in the ban corner, their Ban gets extended. 😉 Not to mention you posting a private message—which, even if it wasn't explicitly forbidden by the site rules, was incredibly tacky (and that's me being polite here). Steven Ruiz, I don't care what color your font is—it's just wrong for one set of rules to apply to some people while others get a pass. That—right there—is the problem!
I honestly have no clue why you ended up with 100 points since I can't see into the backend, but let's be real, not every violation is created equal. It's like if I'm grading my students' PDFs; I'm certainly not going to give the same failing grade to someone who sends a mother back to her hometown as I would to someone just hitting the caps lock key. One thing is much more serious than the other.
My ban actually would have been extended if it hadn't been lifted, and it wasn't just me getting an amnesty, but that third person was also given a break... And regarding the whole business of posting a private message (though, frankly, I'm not sure what was "private" about someone insulting me, other than their own lack of manners), everything has already been addressed, the penalties were handed out, and the rule is clearly stated.
Even moderators make mistakes sometimes, and we all learn from them...
So I'll ask one more time, what is the actual problem here? Because from where I'm sitting, I just don't see one...
Kyle King4 said:This part is hilarious—as if they were born knowing how the entire universe works and all its secrets.
Period. End of story. Why am I even reading this? My blood pressure is spiking. I'm going to go work on my hair for the night; I shouldn't be stressing myself out over this.
For the record, it would be absurd if they hadn't been punished. How long was the thread open? And after how many complaints? Seriously, you should have just kept your mouth shut. You already have enough people defending you as it is.
I am genuinely trying to figure out where the catch is here... It feels like a total lose-lose situation because if the mods get penalized, people complain that it was done just because, but if they aren't penalized, then everyone cries foul about discrimination ... If we stay silent, we're told we're ignoring everyone... And if we don't stay silent, we're told we should have just kept our mouths shut in the first place...
I really don't know who could possibly be happy with those kinds of rules... 🤷
So, we went ahead and set up the chat, but then we ended up getting slapped with the exact same penalties—you know, those red cards—and now the thread is locked too. It feels like we're being treated just like any other regular forum user, so I'm honestly wondering what the actual issue is here...🤷
Linda Rodriguez38 said:I guess I’ll have to start a photography hobby just so I can experience that day when I actually miss a moderator... 🙂 For example, I don't miss Strile from the Lions Club at all—what's your take on that? 🤣 Come on, let's not troll, it's not cool! We all know how it works... if some user keeps posting relentlessly on the KZB forums, their Ban just gets longer and longer...
Actually, that isn't quite right at all! Bans usually get longer when someone tries to clone themselves while they're already under a Ban, or when they start sending those weird "love letters" to the moderators—you know, the ones where they bring up inappropriate topics involving the moderator's family or the moderator themselves—or even when they just stubbornly keep opening the exact same thread over and over after it's been closed.
And we definitely haven't done any of those things...
Alright, I’m going to step away from this conversation because I really have no intention of just spinning my wheels and talking in circles... Whether they lobby for it or not, that permanent ban isn't going anywhere.
