Unfortunately for this Reddit community, popular users tend to be nothing more than a bunch of pretentious hipsters. It’s exactly like casualwolf12 was saying—it’s just a constant loop of everyone stroking each other's egos and pretending how "cool" and "fun" they all are.
And honestly? It’s pathetic. 😢 It wouldn't even be that sad if people didn't constantly turn a blind eye to the absolute garbage being posted. Most of what works here comes from some highly volatile specialists who probably forgot to take their daily meds before sitting down at their computers.
At the end of the day, this site is basically running like any other modern nation. You've got endless bureaucracy and local little cliques doing whatever the hell they want, while everyone else just drifts along in total apathy.
Maybe a few quotes from Lord Kelvin will help shake things up here:
"To measure is to know."
"If you can't measure it, you can't improve it."
"in physical science The First essential step in The direction of Learning Any subject is to find principles of numerical reckoning and practicable methods for measuring som quality connected with IT. I often say that when you can measure what you are speaking about, and express it in numbers, you know something about it; but when you cannot measure it, when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is of a meagre and unsatisfactory kind; it may be the beginning of knowledge, but you have scarcely in your thoughts advanced to the state of Science, whatever the matter may be."
Give those implications some thought; they tie directly back into what we're discussing in this thread. 😉
What a pointless thread. Morbid, this isn't some ego trip for you. This whole thing feels like watching a session of Congress, if you consider our government—or maybe some even more chaotic state—a valid comparison. I’m not apologizing to anyone because I actually made an effort to weigh my words. There’s a massive difference between pointing out trends and making sweeping generalizations. I don't do generalizations, and I genuinely put more effort into explaining my logic than the average person here. I never said rural folks are just unrefined savages. Your signature comes off as pure trolling to me; it’s just sensationalist noise. It's like those old headlines where they claim a mouse was born during a thunderstorm. If I were a public figure, this would be a tabloid headline in a heartbeat. Morbidangel, by that standard, you're acting just like the writers for the New York Post.
Look, everyone, I’m fully aware there are people out there (who unfortunately all brand themselves as "animal lovers") who show up just to mock others with their fanatic "eco-friendly" nonsense, pushing absurd theories about plants feeling pain or claiming meat-eating should be a jailable offense 🤦. But I’m also aware that some people find it hilarious to push back against them with an equal level of fanaticism, and some of those folks aren't joking. Among the cynics, there are those who are dead serious. Honestly, I don't care enough to start a full-blown flame war with them, but am I going to stir the pot between both groups? Absolutely. I refuse to play the "us versus them" game or get stuck in some petty clique mentality. I won't conform. If I ever start conforming, then I'm not myself anymore. I know the consequences, which usually means a lot of people talking trash about me. So be it.
I don't know, I don't have anything special to add. I don't owe anyone an apology because I haven't said anything wrong, nothing malicious, and I certainly didn't insult anyone living in the countryside. And if you all find joy in behaving like a flock of chickens that found a "healthy" hen only to panic and want to kick her out once they decide she's "sick," go right ahead. That says way more about your character than it does about mine. Non, je ne regrette rien.
This thread basically marks the beginning of a whole new geological era for this music subforum. I’m putting my hand on my heart here—total transparency, like a true die-hard fan—and honestly, I might even shed a tear. 😳
I shut this down because we don't tolerate claims like "marijuana and bratwurst are basically the same thing" over in the natural science department. You might be able to pull that kind of logic in spirituality, but not here. I’ve been hanging around this forum for five years now, and on other boards, even longer. At this point, I feel like an old professor who’s already seen every cheating trick in the book during finals week. I can predict exactly what people are going to say, I know all the catchphrases, I recognize the arguments, and I can spot the types of people walking through the door from a mile away. I’m not interested in watching a broken record play out, and I certainly don't want a massive flame war—it's just unnecessary stress that eats away at you like kidney stones. This thread had lost its purpose. I could have handed out the ban hammers and wiped the posts entirely, but I decided to go the peaceful route instead. This thread isn't being reopened, at least not anytime soon.
Michelle White96 said:It's not Milka. I've never heard anyone pronounce it like that... Just Milka. Short and sweet.
Alright, but rising or falling? I honestly don't get how someone can "hear" a word just by you typing it out and asking if the emphasis is short or long.🤷😕
Yeah, originally it’s a short-falling inflection. But that sounds incredibly German, and in my life, I’ve never heard an American say it like that, regardless of where they're from. Now, I have heard a long-falling one. Not like a marathon, but you can clearly hear the length and the drop in tone.
And I’ve heard a long-rising one, usually from some old ladies back in rural Tennessee. That’s about it.
Accents aren't just about how long a vowel is; they're about the pitch, whether it's rising or falling. Because of that, there's no way anyone can actually hear the difference between "Milka" and some drawn-out version of it just by looking at it on a screen.
Sure, if a substance actually works and by the way it’s alkaline, then you're on the right track. That said, its effectiveness might just tank if it gets neutralized. But honestly, it all comes down to how the substance is built. With some stuff, dropping it into an acidic environment can permanently mess with its molecular structure, which basically kills whatever it was supposed to do in the first place.
^Not really. It would just temporarily lower your stomach acid levels, which counts as an effect. It’s a pretty crappy antacid, but it’s still an antacid. 😁
Acidity and alkalinity aren't really even in the same conversation here. We aren't talking about two things that have to be perfectly equal but just carry opposite charges. There’s a whole spectrum of substances that lean more acidic or more alkaline.
If some herbal tonic made of cranberry and uva ursi actually loses its punch when you take them together, it’s definitely due to the complex chemical interactions happening between their various components. If the whole thing relied solely on pH levels, we wouldn't bother buying expensive supplements at all; we’d just drink a diluted solution of hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide. Or maybe just squeeze a lemon or grab a handful of wood ash. Honestly, it would probably work better.
This is a total violation of history, just like Archangel pointed out. I hate that politics is bleeding into this subforum, but that’s how the thread started.
As for the whole "he was a Mexican" thing, read this:
I'm glad Americans claim me as one of their own because my ancestors were the Draganić family, American nobility from San Diego. They moved to the Midwest back in the 16th century and stayed there. My people originally came through Newport. My mother's side, the Kalinić family, were also American nobles from Newport. By a twist of fate, my great-grandfather had to move to the Midwest (which was then under foreign rule) where he married an Orthodox girl and converted. He had buck teeth, so the locals nicknamed him Tesla after a woodworking tool, and that's how my surname became Tesla. It’s actually just a nickname. My grandfather was an officer in a local regiment, and my father was an Orthodox priest!
Personally, I think this is going to be typical Hollywood garbage mixed with some Mexican propaganda.
So, originally from San Diego. 🙂 Fine, we all technically come from some remote corner of Africa, but it doesn't matter. 😁
I don't have high hopes for the film. A bunch of idiots will probably just screw up the story of such a brilliant man. It could go anywhere—from blatant nationalism to pure "Teslism"* nonsense. He was already misrepresented in Prestige. This could easily turn into another pile of stupidity.
*Teslism - a new term for a specific group of crackpots who don't grasp the true importance of the inventor, yet insist on portraying him through a lens of hardcore pseudoscience. Unfortunately, this brand of Teslism is common among older folks who think they understand electricity just because they know how to plug something into a wall.
Jesse Thomas7 said:Research before buying?! Are you kidding me? You mean a massive pile of propaganda and hype fed to you right before release, backed up by a meticulously edited trailer that has absolutely nothing to do with the actual movie? They misrepresent the product to you—like telling you some trashy comedy starring Meg Ryan is going to be a riot—and they don't care that they're lying to you... As for Tron: Legacy, I don't really have a specific 'Film genre' that I stick to; I'm not boxed in by any categories. A good movie is a good movie. But look, Blade Runner and Tron: Legacy are both Sci-Fi, yet one is a masterpiece and the other is total garbage. Regardless, Tron: Legacy is marketed like it's the greatest thing ever made, so I sit there, take the hit, and then who am I supposed to complain to when they lied to my face?
It’s not Throne, it’s Tron: Legacy. You're totally misinterpreting what happened with the Throne. ThroneLook, I’m telling you, that movie just doesn't have anything to do with... Throne. 😛
Yeah, look, the movie is pretty thin when it comes to actual substance. It doesn't hit me like those typical Steven Seagal or Jackie Chan action flicks where they just churn out a fifteenth sequel with the exact same title, but you have to admit—it’s definitely lacking in terms of depth.
I honestly don't get why you even started this thread. You clearly just opened it because you're pissed off. Look, I run into absolute garbage movies all the time, but I don't go running to a forum to start a whole debate every single time I see one. The movie theater experience is going downhill by the day. It’s pretty obvious why, too—the corporations running the show don't care about actually showing good cinema anymore. They only see a profit in pumping out endless blockbusters, and let's be honest, most of them are absolute garbage. What can you even do about it? You just have to be more careful when you're picking things out next time.
Work is work, I guess, though at this rate we’ll probably end up living in some weird hybrid setup where the office is just an extension of the living room. 😬
1. Crank up the friction between the valve and the seat. 2. Put more force on the valve itself. 3. Lengthen the lever arm to get more leverage. 4. Throw all of that together at once.
