Maybe you've got that power-saving setting turned on that just shuts down your network card entirely. I mean—you should probably poke around in those power-saving options and see if that's the culprit.
Noah Ruiz73 said:I mean... seriously? You might want to bet on something a little more logical, maybe then you'll actually win 😉 I'm running Ultimate and I'm using Windows Vista now too, so there's really no need to stress about features I (don't) use or what I do or don't bother with. The whole point of my post wasn't even that—maybe try reading a bit more carefully if you actually want to have a coherent discussion! Besides, even that "your" Home version has decent pricing globally—take Germany, for example, at http://www1.conrad.de/v.php. And it's the same thing here in America! That's what I'm getting at—we're just a small enough market for people to pull off some major scams. And hey, let them keep doing it as long as they can, since Microsoft knows how to exploit that. That specific "feature" isn't even implemented in the Ultimate version yet, anyway 🙄 ☕
Sorry, I think we totally misread each other 🙂 (I wasn't talking about the Home version—man, talk about a massive communication breakdown)
Look, it's not Microsoft's fault that local shops are ripping us off. If you're too embarrassed to order new Windows versions from overseas or just buy directly from Microsoft, well, that's on you. Nobody is forcing you to buy from our local stores.
Noah Ruiz73 said:And who on earth is actually going to buy this at such a massive price tag!? 🤔
Mainly because this OS isn't even immune to the same old headaches from before—like how unstable things get when you're running third-party software, or even its own stuff (like Media Player, for example). And don't even get me started on the lack of support for all the different audio formats. It means you're stuck constantly digging around and messing with codecs and plug-ins just to get something like FLAC to work... which is honestly unacceptable!
Plus, the way they just ignore slightly older hardware—take DVB-T TV cards for laptops, for instance—because there aren't any drivers available, is just such a shockingly amateur mistake. They’ve built most drivers right into the OS, yet for a huge chunk of users, there's still zero support. And that's especially true for manufacturers who couldn't care less about a product once it's a year or two old, since they're too busy trying to push the next shiny thing. It's just a cycle that goes on forever....
To be fair, Windows 7 looks great and it's definitely faster than Windows Vista, but none of that makes up for that price point. And then, of course, we have those famous patches 🙄 So, look, if someone actually buys an original copy, they better be ready to start patching immediately after installation. Just like everyone else downloading it for free!
It's all the same old story... boring and overpriced. After all these years, billions in lost revenue, and a very well-retired Bill, I guess free is the only real price for 7. 👍
Just go online and look up the differences between the various versions of Windows. I'd bet anything you—and probably most people on this forum—will never even touch half the features found in the Ultimate version. So, maybe don't rush out to grab the most expensive one right away.
It might work, but honestly, I’d just recommend a clean format—if everything is already acting up now, it'll probably just keep crashing after an upgrade anyway
Wait, what? I mean, the American version has been out for months now. You basically need the Ultimate edition, otherwise you aren't getting anywhere with this
lol those comparisons are wild xD but seriouslyyy—is it just me, or does it feel weird that there hasn't been a single update through Windows Update for a whole week yet? There was just that one lone little thing, lol🙂 I guess they'll probably dump a massive batch of them on us around October 22nd.
I mean, if you run into an issue where some game just won't work on Windows 7, you could always just fire up a virtual machine running Windows XP and play it there instead
Why on earth are you guys even downloading codec packs? Just grab a decent media player and you won't have any issues—though, I guess if things do get weird, ffdshow is always there as a backup. Those codec packs just cause nothing but headaches.
brighttinker48 said:Could you please explain how to burn a DVD/CD? I mean, just burning an entire DVD onto a blank disc. Or is that even possible?
I get the whole thing about burning ISO files or data DVDs, but I haven't found anything on this specifically.
hmm. If you don't have two burners sitting there, you basically have to load everything onto the computer first—so it acts like a virtual drive—or just use some kind of 3rd party software. I'm not totally sure about CD-to-CD though, since I don't have two drives to work with. IMO, I actually really like burning stuff on Windows 10 because it asks if you want a multi-session disk and lets you set the speed before you start every single time.
lol Yeah, version 1.5 of the activator is already floating around online. They don't seem to be uploading them as often lately—looks like they might be wrapping up the code. I guess they're probably just waiting on an OEM master key to drop sometime in October. I gotta say, Windows 7 handles HDD and RAM usage way better. I actually dig how when you shut down the PC, the screen goes black and tells you which programs are still hanging on. And the new firewall is killer—you can tweak the ports so precisely it's almost overkill. Honestly, I don't even feel like I need third-party software anymore. Launching Firefox feels practically instant now 🙏 They also fixed the DPI settings. Finally, once you adjust the DPI, the icons aren't all blurry and pixelated. Everything scales perfectly 🙏 The interface tweaks are solid too. That new "superbar"... once you get used to it, it's actually great. The new way to hide tray icons is 🙏 Obviously, I ran into a few bugs, but they're so tiny they aren't even worth mentioning. Okay, there is one big one—getting a Blue Screen of Death while installing drivers for my satellite and TV gear—but I'm blaming the card manufacturers for that one. I've still got 8 days left on my trial plus 3 RTM builds. Maybe I'll try to fax my way into getting a Windows 7 license 😬 Windows Search is awesome because, like, searching through the Start menu searches everything. Even Libraries. If I want to listen to a specific song, I can find it in like 2 seconds because it's insanely fast. My only gripe is that you can't add spacing between the icons in the superbar. Sometimes I end up clicking the wrong program because I missed the icon by a hair. But I'm thinking they'll probably add that in some Service Pack later. Anyway, after these 22 days, I'm pretty happy with it.
