I guess Beroš was only careful not to compare us to the USA.
And the thing is, the USA started testing later too, but they’re catching up fast and hitting those high numbers at the top of the pile. Meanwhile, we're just lagging behind.
In two weeks, they'll probably be comparing us to Mexico. 🤦
So, the USA—which everyone was tearing apart just a few weeks ago—is already running several times more tests per million people daily than we are here in America, and honestly, if you look at the raw numbers, they're so much better it's almost not worth mentioning, but hey, that's just how the USA operates.
Take the Canadians, for instance; I remember how they were totally lagging behind with their initial measures and ended up in a complete panic, so they just went all in and started massive testing, and now they've been reporting incredibly low infection numbers for days, way lower than what we're seeing.
We really should have had a much higher volume of testing by this point to get a clear picture of what's actually happening, but unfortunately, we're already falling behind the people we initially seemed to be ahead of. The CDC mentioned those mass testing efforts the other day, so I'm really hoping they actually get moving with that stuff soon.
The Russians are sitting at second place for total tests with 1.36M, while the Italians are right behind them in third with about 1M.
It’s honestly wild watching how much those numbers spiked for the Turks, because just two or three weeks ago they were all bragging about having zero infections, and now I see they actually ran 400,000 tests during that same window. You can really 🙏🙏
Americans have tested 2,964,726 people 😲😲 That’s nearly 1% of the entire population there. (edited 🤣) I mean, you just can't make this stuff up, especially since they were basically running more tests than anyone else on the planet just a month ago, so seeing that 3M figure hit is honestly pretty wild to me. 🙏🙏🙏
Out of all those, 582,000 tested positive, which works out to about 19.4%.
They’re actually starting to get close to that magic herd immunity number.
The US is probably going to come out on top again, because if we assume there are going to be second or third waves of this pandemic, they seem like the most prepared group out there right now, and they'll likely be the first ones back to a normal life. It’s like that old saying about how those stubborn Americans 🙏🙏🙏
The daily updates on infection numbers are starting to feel pretty thin at this point. Honestly, the government needs to step up and tell us: what’s actually the plan here?
It's a pretty realistic take on the situation, and while there isn't much of a clear strategy—or maybe they just aren't communicating it clearly enough—I honestly think it's the first one, because there just isn't a real long-term strategy in sight. I just really hope this doesn't turn into a total fiasco, which seems to be the standard way things play out around here.
Secondly, there are clear rules during this period that everyone is supposed to follow. Holding Holy Mass, or any other large gatherings, is prohibited. Whether indoors or outdoors. After that first incident with that rude peasant and the priest, the authorities should have simply approached the Church and said: either you deal with him, or we will (the government). If the Church doesn't handle it, next time he gets handcuffed, arrested, and jailed. That peasant is spitting on everyone following these measures and her actions are encouraging others to break the rules. Jail. Period. Look at this gathering in front of the church this morning. A large number of people staying at an inappropriate distance. What part of that isn't clear? If it's banned in all other situations and contexts, then they have no business doing that this morning either. Intervene and disperse them. Anyone who refuses gets detained.
It's the same thing with those Romani people who should have all been dispersed. Anyone who refuses should be thrown in jail for unauthorized filming and obstructing officials in the line of duty.
The Church (in this specific case, one priest), national minorities, or anyone else has no right to act out during these emergency circumstances, and there should be no tolerance for any double standards.
I honestly don't get why we're still waiting around on these local tourism boards, like, why haven't they just switched everyone over to minimum wage yet? It's not like they actually do anything productive anyway, and now, legally speaking, they don't even have a legitimate reason to justify their existence anymore.
I mean, when the biggest headline you can find is about some guy pushing his phone away, we really shouldn't be surprised at all, honestly, just look at Reddit where people have been arguing over nothing for twenty pages straight.
Beyond the current 576 municipalities, cities, and counties across America—many of which barely have the resources to provide even the most basic public services to their citizens—there’s this massive, swelling mess of regional branch offices for central government agencies, according to Koprić, and it's a huge issue. Back in 2015, there were 1,279 of them, but by 2018, that number had climbed to 1,465, which just goes to show that despite all those official claims about shrinking the federal bureaucracy, they actually created 186 additional regional offices for various departments in just three years.
And you also have to factor in the regional outposts for state-owned companies and government institutions, which some conservative estimates put somewhere between 500 and 600. That basically means that across about 90 American cities, you have a total of 2,000 different regional branches for central government bodies, state corporations, and agencies all operating at once. Every single one of them, Koprić points out, has its own offices and its own bosses driving around in official government cars...
Public Administration Reform by Andrej Plenković 🙏🙏🙏
It’s probably not quite as big of a deal as dropping your phone on the pavement, but it’s definitely not nothing either, you know? Just wanted to share a decent little write-up about some total nonsense, just so we can take a breather from all the heavy, serious stuff going on in the world for a second.
