Where on earth are you guys taking your dogs for walks tonight now that all the restaurants are closed?

Paul Martinez73 is just playing with percentages.

Eric Fox7 said:Nah, you don't calculate the percentage like that 🤦

Matthew Young35 said:Actually, that wouldn't be 10%; it would be 9.09%.

But then again, the raw data itself is double-edged.

nimblemarlin9 said:🤣🤣

I see you guys are being just as serious as Vučić... ☕
I wanted to point out first that we're talking about 30% here, which is actually three times higher than the flu, you know... You can clearly see the old man is demanding links for proof. ☕

I suppose the biggest issue here is just how little we actually know about this virus.

urbanhawk17 said:Drop a link for this.

Well, I think I found my own answer...🤷
So if you have 8,000 deaths for every 80,000 recoveries, and you assume that ratio holds steady for everyone else, you’re looking at 160,000 recoveries and 16,000 deaths—which is a 10% mortality rate, not some tiny 1.3% figure people keep throwing around.

brightpilot6 said:Jessica Gonzalez is such an anti-vaxxer. She managed to pull three random numbers out of thin air, claiming we all have a 1.5 percent chance of dropping dead this year, and she’s actually trying to build some grand philosophy around that premise.

Can someone please give people some actual facts?

I’ll give ZZ one thing.
The best way to throw out a "1%" figure is when you don't have any real data yet. GQ is usually a smart guy, but look at how he could spin it:
Say there are 100,000 infections, 1% die, and 99% recover. Sure, then you can say, "See, it's just 1%."

But if you've got 200,000 infected, 20,000 recovered, and 2,000 dead, you can't talk about a death percentage yet. You won't know the true impact of those deaths until you see what happens to the other 180,000, or whether they end up facing long-term consequences.

You can't just downplay it like it's nothing. I mean, take the people who survived Chernobyl—are they counted in the immediate death statistics? Of course not, because they died 10, 20, or 30 years later.

Talking stats when nobody actually knows what's going on with this virus—other than the fact that it's spreading like wildfire—is pointless. I’ve already posted this in another thread, but the entire Scientific Community agrees this is a massive deal. This isn't comparable to the flu or anything else; it's much worse. Governments are essentially nuking their entire economies, but hey, hundreds of these guys love to play the relativist. They act like it's not serious because the mortality rate looks low. Whatever you think about it, I'm telling you, world leaders and heads of research institutes are better informed than the rest of us mortals. Everyone agrees: "It's dangerous, stay calm, but it's not harmless." We know they always use careful language to prevent a total meltdown, which usually means things are even worse than they're letting on.

There's no need to panic and hoard toilet paper, but there's also no reason to brush this off.

And the absolute best argument is: "Well, older people are dying, but they were going to die anyway."
I'm sure when your parents or grandparents pass away, you'll just tell them, "Who cares, you were going to die eventually," or if someone dies in a car wreck, you'll say, "Whatever, they were driving an eight-hour shift in a truck, they had a high chance of dying regardless."

Anyone got a medical mask they're looking to sell or give away?
The sun is actually out, my neighbor is wandering around their apartment naked right across the street, and I'm sitting here sipping coffee on the balcony pretending I'm in quarantine just so I can get a good look at them...

Man, if only Corona was around every single day... ☕

wiredfalcon2 said:Can some saint please explain the actual logic behind this massive food hoarding? Are stores gonna shut down because of the virus? Or is it just "don't leave the house since you have enough supplies"? Like, what even is that?

Look, if a city-wide lockdown actually happens, grocery supply chains are going to take a huge hit. We're already seeing issues with imports and exports at the borders. Everyone is going to panic-buy everything in sight, which completely empties the shelves. Just look at what happened in Italy—streets are totally deserted, everyone is stuck at home, and shops are shut tight.

wiredfalcon2 said:All those masks are being wasted, and honestly, they don't even do anything against the virus 🤣 Word is people are already hoarding food supplies.

Total amateurs. Just cook up a massive batch of chili and cabbage rolls, freeze the lot, and you're set for a thousand years. Toss in some dried bacon if you're feeling fancy. Instead of investing in actual freezers, people are just buying random groceries... and honestly, what are you even going to do with all that food? ☕
I’m about to go buy a chest freezer myself; I can already see the stampede coming after I post this...

Larry Fox5 said:You can tell your relatives that those stories are nothing but fairy tales.

I know plenty of Muslims, and their assimilation into German society isn't any slower or faster than any other immigrant group—which, by the way, includes Americans.
The couple closest to me is a Turkish pair who are Alevis, btw. They've been married 40 years, an arranged marriage, originally from Anatolia. They have two daughters, college students aged 19 and 21.
They’re traditional believers, sure, but everyone eats pork and celebrates Christmas just like Catholics do. The girls dress exactly like any American girl would.

Almost every Muslim I know had an arranged marriage. To us, that sounds insane, but by the second generation—their kids—they already have total freedom of choice and don't stick to those strict traditions anymore. You also can't ignore where they're actually coming from. Take a quick trip to Istanbul and trust me, you'll be shocked. It feels no different from any other European city when it comes to how people dress, act, or live in the city. The thing is, most people moving to Western cities aren't coming from places like Istanbul; they're coming from the middle of nowhere where God hasn't even looked in ages.
It’s the same deal with Americans, too—you really think someone from Upper Merion took the same amount of time to adjust to life in Paris as someone coming straight from a major hub like Chicago?

Plus, you see a huge number of atheists among the Kurds. Their banned workers' party, the PKK, actually spread Marxist philosophy throughout the Kurdish community.
It’s a similar vibe with our folks who grew up through generations in Marshall's America.

Because of all these different perspectives, it’s totally wrong to view Muslims as one big homogenous group that’s all stuck in hardline conservatism and rejects other faiths.

I think you misunderstood what he was asking. He isn't asking about Turks (or any other immigrants) who arrived generations ago; he's talking about the new wave of immigrants. Even America itself admits it's having massive issues with assimilation and integration. Of course, that doesn't apply to the majority, but a huge percentage of the young, working-age immigrants in this recent wave are a drain on the community because they have zero desire to adapt to society.

When you're riding public transit, most people are on their phones or reading books, but then you get those people on hour-long video calls who are so loud that even if you're reading, there's no way you can concentrate. That's the bare minimum level of culture—not making phone calls so loudly that you disturb everyone else. Not that I want to go down that rabbit hole right now...

I'm emphasizing that this applies to this latest wave of immigrants, not the people who have been here for generations and arrived in different times for different reasons.

wiredfalcon2 said:The guy was literally posing next to a swastika, and now you're asking me why it's not unfair to call him a fascist? 🤦 Honestly, it's wild how everyone here ignores the fact that besides two gay guys, a straight kid got burned too. What did those kids ever do to you? 🤷

I took a photo in front of Hajduk's crest—does that officially make me a Tovar? I’ve also got a shot from the museum standing next to the NAC Uniform, right by the memorial for the victims of the NAC regime... Am I a fascist or an anti-fascist? Honestly, I can't even tell anymore...
So, Davor Šuker was taking photos in front of Pavelic's grave... does that make him a Fascist?

Calling someone out based on a single photo without knowing the context is pretty reckless. It doesn't even matter for the performance itself, since I wasn't the one who built the puppets or set them on fire... I didn't even participate in that part. This whole thing affects an entire city.

The most intense part of this is that they’re supposedly burning a child and two gay men. No, let's be real—they're burning three dolls. Just two male dolls kissing and a doll of a child featuring Stazic's photo, which is clearly a jab implying it's an adult rather than a kid... But hey, you all just interpret everything however suits your own narrative anyway...

And who exactly are we supposed to be? I don't live in a small town like Imotski...

wiredfalcon2 said:Classic OP, two steps away from a total ad hominem attack. Typical move for people who can't think—when you run out of actual arguments, just start calling people names because you think it counts as an insult. 🤣

Look, kid, I don't care about banning cultural events. But if the guy running the show is pushing fascist ideology and posing next to a swastika, please, don't cry about it when someone calls him a fascist. That should be the bare minimum of decency. Either own being a fascist or stop whining like a little girl when someone calls you out on it.

So you think when you run out of actual arguments, you can just pivot to attacking someone's religious beliefs? Why on earth would you take it personally if I called you gay? Honestly, I just got the impression you were a homo, so if you want to label me a hetero, I really wouldn't be offended... 🤷
That's just who you are...

The way this "kid" tries to argue says everything you need to know about his intellect; it’s just people like him attempting to lecture others when they're clearly outclassed in any real debate...

Since when does burning a couple of effigies make someone a Fascist? Would you call me one if I torched two rats instead? It seems like you all crave equality so badly, yet you whine like little girls the second things get real... try showing some backbone for once. All this whining because Zoran Milanović hired an advisor who isn't a fan of certain extremists, and now everyone’s crying about effigies and calling people Fascists... honestly...

I’m pretty sure some priest gave you a blessing by touching your stomach or something... I mean, how did you even manage to drag the Church into this debate? It’s obvious you ran out of actual arguments, so your boyfriend probably just suggested pivoting to religion since he’s clearly the brains of the operation.

We were talking about whether to release all performances or just select ones, and somehow you ended up spiraling into the Catholic Church’s real estate holdings and pedophilia scandals. At this point, one can only assume that you or your boyfriend had a seriously rough childhood...

Let's not get bogged down in pointless debates about what constitutes a sickness versus what doesn't...

I was specifically pointing out that setting two men and a child on fire is a fascist crime.
But if you set Bill Clinton on fire while he’s kissing and holding Peter like a child, suddenly it’s just "performance art."

If you burn a star-shaped fascist effigy, people call it hate speech, but if you burn an emblem of the Roman Legion or some other extremist militia, it’s just a performance...

At the end of the day, fascism is whatever the crowd decides is acceptable. I’m not a fan of how Fry labels everything as a "performance," but if his audience loves it, why should I stop them? As long as they don't try to stop my performances, too.

Honestly, who cares if they're burning a few gays, Bill Clinton, or even Batman and Superman as some kind of fascist tradition? What does any of that have to do with who got to choose what happened? The locals there thought it was fun and inspiring for their fascist display, so let them enjoy themselves. It's just like how the people in Miami found it inspiring to showcase their city as the center of the Communist Party back in 2020. To each their own.

wiredfalcon2 said:Please. Kids have seen everything already—probably more than they should, like seeing a priest's junk. You can't shield them from every little thing. I'm with you on this one.

Maybe you didn't get a look at those priest's bits when you were little, but clearly someone else did (your dad's, the neighbor's, or maybe just the dog's?). You definitely have some kind of psychological issue fueled by an insane amount of pure hatred.

Kids watching movies like 300 or shows like South Park and Family Guy on TV today, and somehow *that's* where the problem lies instead of people burning effigies... 🤣
