Anyway, speaking of Oreos—is anyone else having issues with their app and scanning QR codes? It shows a "Pay/Donate" option, so I head over to some nonprofit's site, and they have a QR code right there. My Android scanner picks it up instantly, and even my Federal Reserve business app reads it without a hitch... but the Oreo Pay app just won't cooperate. Am I doing something wrong here, or what?...
It works for me too, but it’s not quite the same thing. What I was actually asking about is whether you get a notification specifically when someone sends you money or a message—because even though I have every single setting enabled, I don't get any notifications at all during those times. 🤷
Yeah. It’s actually pretty wild—there isn't even a label on the card indicating if it's credit, debit, or prepaid. Absolutely nothing, not even in the fine print or tucked away near the Mastercard logo on the back. I don't think I've ever seen a card like this before.
By the way, Remitly doesn't seem to have a minimum top-up amount. Just to test the waters, I literally did a top-up for a single cent and it went through without any fees. Once they realize what I just did, they'll probably freeze my account in a heartbeat. 🤣
p.s. You can't add it to Curve, likely because of that Brazilian BIN...
My Remitly card finally arrived today. The packaging is a total carbon copy of the Revolut Metal experience, except instead of that sleek black look, they went with purple. The card itself has this blue and purple gradient, and interestingly enough, this one actually specifies it’s a Brazilian credit card 🙂
Where on earth did you find that list? I’m actually thinking about checking out that local diner (if it's the one over by the square) 🤣
All I'm looking for is a solid list of cafes, restaurants, hair salons, and that's about it. Something along the lines of a failed Apple Wallet, PayPal, or George... honestly, I think George is the only one still somewhat hanging on, while the others have either completely folded or are doing so "well" that you can't even tell if they're still functioning.
I had some trouble using my Visa cards through Bank of America; it seems like maybe not all ATMs support them 🤷
The Federal Reserve offers this service for Mastercard (you’ll actually see "Mastercard PIN change" listed right there on the screen), which is why changing a PIN always works smoothly at their ATMs when you're using an MC card.
If you're looking to change the Visa PIN on any of your foreign cards, you'll be surprised at how much Citigroup ATMs can pull off 👍 For about six months now, I’ve been trying to get this done at various American ATMs—tried everything from JPMorgan Chase and the Federal Reserve to Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and even PNC Bank—but nothing worked. Honestly, it didn't even cross my mind to try a Citigroup machine since they aren't exactly everywhere you turn, but I gave it a shot today and it actually worked! 🙏
Now, Mastercard is a different story altogether. You can change those at way more locations (pretty much anywhere, really), though if you want my advice, stick with the Federal Reserve machines.

It’s actually quite solid, though getting set up while living in the US can be a headache because the verification process gets pricey—you'd have to mail notarized documents translated into Russian over to Moscow. However, they have branches in neighboring countries where the verification fee is only about five bucks.
I just went ahead and tested adding a Google Money Mastercard (an American credit card) to my account, and everything worked perfectly—it added without a hitch and even topped up on Western Union seamlessly... I guess if they're operating within the EEA, there shouldn't be any issues... 🤣

Honestly, I’m not even surprised. They’ve been having quite a few issues with card top-ups lately; even with my own cards, it often just shows an "X" at the end after adding them. It’s pretty obvious the whole system is still stuck in beta phase...
I’ve managed to switch from Chime over to Western Union, but I haven't tried going back the other way yet. I used my Western Union virtual card at three different merchants where they didn't require an address, and everything went through without a hitch. It might be worth sending them an email to clarify exactly which billing address you should use during checkout; from what I can tell, their support team is actually quite friendly and responsive via email. I even reached out to ask about adding USD support for card-to-card transfers, and they mentioned they're planning to integrate it directly into the wallet to make the whole process seamless.
On a side note, isn't it interesting that they handle 3D Secure authentication through SMS rather than through an app?
At the end of the day, every product has its target market—and in this case, every service has its specific customer base. Sure, those interest rates are absolutely brutal, but is it really worth spreading hate just because of that? If you go into it knowing exactly what the deal is and make a conscious choice, that's on you. Sometimes, people find themselves in a corner where high-interest capital is their only lifeline, and that’s exactly when these types of lenders step up to help.
It’s actually quite interesting that Ally Bank offers free checking accounts and debit cards abroad; within the US, they operate just like any other legitimate online bank.
For some reason, their app-based ID verification isn't working with our driver's licenses. Just shoot them an email—there’s an option in the app to report a problem, so just click that and let them know you're stuck on the verification step. They usually get back to you within thirty minutes during business hours, though since it's likely after-hours now, you might not hear anything until tomorrow.
Once you get your account verified, they bump your limit up to $5,000. If you send over a recent utility bill, like from ConEd or PG&E, they'll increase it even further, but I haven't tried that myself so I'm not sure what the cap is. You can always do that later; for now, I'm sticking with my $5,000 limit.
It’s highly likely that Mastercard just recycled some old cards from a Brazilian bank and handed them off to various fintech companies. 🤣
On the other hand, the services I’ve used so far identify it as a card "issued in the European Union," but as for what its actual country BIN really is... who knows?
Once you’re up, they’ll send over a link for the Chase Bank app if you're using iOS, or the PayPal app if you're on Android. I’ve noticed some people are actually jumping the gun and registering before it’s officially their turn, and honestly, it seems to be working just fine—so if you're looking to get an account, why not give it a shot? The account itself doesn't cost a dime and covers several major currencies (though there isn't a local currency option available). You also get a free virtual card—which is a bit weird because the binlist identifies it as a Brazilian prepaid credit card, wtf?—plus the option to order a physical card for $5.99. Transfers to any other card follow the standard PayPal pricing at $1.50, while bank transfers are listed as "coming soon!" but are currently free. Topping up your balance is free, too, though you will need a valid ID to complete the registration process.
I honestly feel like all they’re missing is support for the US Dollar, though I know there’s still plenty of room for them to improve. Personally, I’m not even as interested in the card-to-card transfers as I am in moving money from a card directly to a bank account. It would be great if we could send funds from a card to a US bank account entirely for free—if only they supported USD.
We'll just have to wait and see what kind of card they actually roll out when it arrives.
