I honestly don't get it. First, you guys take a few thousand from me, and now you're snatching up this little bit I managed to scrape together. Then, everything just vanishes and leaves me sitting at zero, instead of showing my actual count—which should be 7—while somehow every other post shows 300. Your theory about certain threads and posts being deleted clearly doesn't hold water. Why am I seeing 7 here, but 300 over there? 😠😳
I don't quite follow—did your gynecologist not clarify whether you need to start them on day one of your period or sometime between days one and five? They definitely should have mentioned that your protection level is reduced. Honestly, it’s a bit irresponsible not to have read the instructions before starting them. Of course there's now a chance you could be pregnant.
If I were in your shoes, I’d start taking them the very first day—even before you have what counts as a "real" period. For most people, the first day is just a trickle anyway, and things don't really get going until day two.
restlesstiger102 said:I am seeking some perspective and perhaps a bit of advice from this community. For several years, I have been using Yasmin on and off, taking breaks whenever necessary. However, after consistently using Yasmin for about a year, I reached a point where my libido completely vanished, which was incredibly frustrating.

I took a break back in January of this year, and I haven't touched birth control since. Given that my period arrives at very regular intervals—thanks to my PCOS—I am considering restarting hormonal contraception soon.😁

I have heard various things regarding Yaz, so I find myself wondering if anyone else here has experienced a similar struggle, specifically that noticeable drop in sex drive after a certain amount of time on the pill, and whether switching over to Yaz actually resolved that issue for you?

I made the switch from Yasmin to Yaz myself. For me, the libido issues on Yaz were just as terrible. Obviously, your experience might be totally different. It's like anything else—some people click with certain brands, and others don't at all.

hiddenpuma9 said:Hey, is anyone here actually on the Lindynette 30 birth control pills? There’s barely anything about them online, and everything I do find seems to be talking about the Lindynette 20 instead. :S
If anyone is using them, could you please share your experience with me? These would be my first time ever taking the pill, and honestly, I'm a little nervous about potential side effects like weight gain or extra hair growth. :/

Honestly, this topic has been chewed over on this forum a million times already. Hormonal pills are strictly an individual thing. You could have fifty women say a specific brand is perfect, and it might be a disaster for you. Likewise, if fifty women say they hate one, it might work flawlessly for you.

It's frustrating, I know, but you won't truly know how they affect you until you've been on them for about 3 to 4 months.
Unfortunately, I’m well aware that there are gynecologists out there who will prescribe birth control pills to anyone without a second thought. However, I don't believe that someone just starting to consider hormonal contraception should be told they can simply pick whichever brand they want without any guidance.😳
Understood, I wasn't aware of those. Regardless, those specific ones are covered, while all the others remain unprotected. 😢

Look, what you choose to suggest to her is strictly between you and your gynecologist. Since I’m neither a doctor nor a specialist, it isn't my place to dictate which medications should be used. The same logic applies to lab work. Every year, I get my tests done, bring the results to her, and we discuss whether I've noticed any changes or if there's a medical reason to switch pills. If a doctor were to just prescribe whatever brand I asked for without consultation, I'd seriously consider finding a new provider. ☕
Yasmin is talking about $33, specifically regarding a Yaz pill with 125 mcg of estrogen. Look, you shouldn't just grab whatever happens to be the cheapest option on the shelf; you need to take exactly what your gynecologist prescribes. In the US, insurance coverage varies wildly, but don't assume everything is covered under your plan. Also, keep in mind that prescription durations fluctuate—some are valid for six months, while others last for a full year.

True, but the instructions specifically advise against delaying progress by knocking back two boxes without a break. I actually asked some girls the other day if anyone had combined them and what kind of side effects they dealt with, and honestly, that approach doesn't sit right with me at all. You can find it on the previous page.

Yeah, that's just how it goes. I was actually chatting about this with my mom earlier; she used to take Celest back when it was the only option on the market, and she swears it worked perfectly for her. For me, I'm on Yasmin, and it hasn't been nearly as effective. I honestly can't say for sure what the deciding factor is—whether it's the specific formulation of the pill, your own unique biology, or just how different things interact within your system...🤷

Can you shorten the three-day break, so instead of seven days, it lasts four? That’s exactly what I just tried to do, but I didn't get anything at all. Now I'm really wondering if I'll see any results later this month or if it's just going to be a total wash.

I desperately wanted to dodge my period during the weekend my partner was coming home from his game, and for once, I actually pulled it off. I pushed it back by two or three days, even though I’d been popping pills for ten straight days. But nature doesn't care about your plans. It showed up anyway: nope.
zna:
In the end, instead of four days, I bled for ten.😕

Look, I’m telling you, things might seem fine on the surface. I know female athletes pull this stunt all the time—they push through, they stay focused, and they don't deal with these kinds of side effects. They make it look easy.🤷

Actually, what you were planning to do seems like the best move. Try shortening those pauses leading up to that point. If you can pull it off, it’ll work.

Good luck.🙂

Thanks, but I haven't even started yet, and I wouldn't be surprised if mine decides to show up right in the middle of the pack and lasts for days. 😁

driftingseal17 said:Hey, I just popped an Escapelle pill—like, right this second—so, is it actually okay if I have a cigarette? Or is smoking going to tank the effectiveness of the pill????

Smoking doesn't decrease the effectiveness of the pill, but combining smoking with contraception isn't a good idea due to the increased risk of blood clots.

Thanks.

Honestly, I’m at a total loss as to what my next move should be. My initial plan was to just shorten the break this month and next—essentially starting the new pack after three days instead of the full week—so that everything shifts forward by about seven days. But here’s the catch: I was supposed to start my period today, acting as if I hadn't shifted anything at all, yet nothing has happened. Not in the days leading up to today, and still nothing now. The instructions even mention that there's a chance it might not come at all. 🤷

Anyway, I was considering just taking a few pills from the second pack to see how it goes, but I haven't made a 100% decision yet. I'm going to wait and see if I actually get my period this month first, and then I'll decide what to do about that pack for my summer vacation. 😳

Jeremy Kern said:It’s the same as when I drink 21. It hits about 3 or 4 days after the last one.

Alright, I think I'll go with that plan; it seems like the smartest move. I actually shifted my schedule this month hoping to trigger them earlier, but no luck there.

Rachel Fisher4 said:I've been on the pill for almost a year now, and over the last four days, I’ve started having breakthrough bleeding... just a few brown drops here and there. I didn't have anything like this when I first started. I have seven pills left in my pack. I haven't missed a single dose. Now I'm just waiting for my appointment at the clinic. We had sex about 15 days ago, so is it possible something went wrong? Does it even make sense to panic?...😕

If this is the first time it's happened and it doesn't become a pattern, there really isn't a reason to panic. It happened to me once out of nowhere and never again. Honestly, I have no idea what caused it. At the time, I had already been on the pill for quite a while, maybe even over a year.

Hmm, alright, that’s pretty rough. Thanks for getting back to me. I think I’ll just extend my vacation by a few days and wait until I’m back home to deal with them—what else can you do? 🤷
So, how many days does it actually take for them to show up if, say, you extend things by a week? Does it happen right after you stop taking them, or is there still a gap of a few days?

Richard Fisher14 said:Hello,
I usually take Yaz quite consistently, but I missed a pill during my third week and ended up taking it about 14 hours late. I went right back to my regular schedule the next day. I'm wondering what your experiences have been with this... Has anyone actually gone to see their OB-GYN for advice on whether I'm still properly protected?
Thanks

If I were you, I’d play it safe and use backup protection until the pack is finished.

driftingmaker31 said:Hey everyone! So, I'm 16 and have been with my boyfriend for about a year now. We've been intimate, and after one time we didn't use protection, I had to take the morning-after pill. My gynecologist sent me for some hormone testing because she wants to get me started on birth control so this doesn't happen by accident again. She mentioned she’ll probably prescribe Yaz since it has the lowest hormone levels. Has anyone here actually used those before??
Also, I haven't gone in for my blood work or liver function tests yet, and I'm a little curious—what exactly is a liver test, and how do they actually do it?

It's just standard blood work, nothing else.

redcyclist99 said:How long am I supposed to use backup protection if I didn't start my birth control on the first day of my period? Thanks...🙂

It depends on the specific pill. For some, a week is enough, but honestly, it's probably smarter to use extra protection for the entire first pack.

electricpuma65 said:I have a question:

I've been on birth control—specifically Yaz—since last October. It wasn't actually for contraception; I was using it to manage heavy periods...

Well, yesterday I finished my very last pill in the pack. Technically, I should be starting a new pack today—but I'm currently out of town without a prescription in hand.

I won't be able to start the next round until Sunday. Is that okay? Since Yaz is designed to be taken continuously without a break, should I just wait until Sunday to start the new pack, or am I supposed to wait for my period to finish first before starting from day one?

Thanks for the help.

Are you done with the pink pills or did you go all out with everything? You can push through on Sunday, but make sure you take extra precautions then. You’ll likely end up having to deal with Sunday and Monday anyway, so it ends up being the same thing.

So, basically anyone:

Look, when you're switching from one pill to another, there are usually two ways to handle it. One way is the method you just used, where you transition directly. The other option is to take a break between packs, though if you go that route, you’ll need to use extra protection during that first month of starting the new ones—in your case, Yasmin.

Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I’d play it safe and use backup protection for the first month regardless, simply because you're dealing with a different hormone combination.
Nathan Baker said:A missed pill could always result in pregnancy. It might, or it might not. Even having unprotected sex during fertile days doesn't necessarily lead to pregnancy. Taking your pills consistently isn't paranoia; it's just a sign of maturity and responsibility.

Look, Sashica, please—every warning is welcome here, truly. But I hadn't even given Noah Myers8 a second thought until this post appeared, and then her advice telling another user to just double up on their dose actually led that person to do exactly that. It was completely useless, and frankly, I don't know what else to call it besides sheer stupidity. The original quote is just as bad. People on these forums tend to follow the lead of a single post like that. Next time, someone might think, "Oh, look at that, if I miss one, it won't matter, there's no chance I'll get pregnant." Honestly, it surprises me that posts like these aren't deleted immediately. I suspect I'd be banned less often if I didn't feel the need to constantly step in and point out these kinds of things.

Of course it can. And I am certainly not saying that being consistent with the pill is paranoid, nor am I saying it doesn't matter if you miss one.

Besides, I presented that as one of two possible solutions.
You're absolutely right. That can definitely lead to water retention and increased cellulite.

Those didn't make a dent in my weight, even though I was on Cilest, Yaz, and Yasmin. For me, the only thing that actually worked was my diet—either eating or not eating. 😁
Nathan Baker said:Honestly, you shouldn't have just taken two—how can you even know which one you actually missed? I really don't know who would suggest such nonsense to you. Just go back to taking them normally until Friday, assuming that’s your last pill for this pack. And you should probably skip the usual break and start the next pack immediately. That’s the only way to truly feel secure about your protection level, provided that enough time passes between when you missed that pill and whenever you might have sex—more than seven days, ideally. If you decide to skip the break and jump straight to the next pack, just be prepared for some spotting or heavier bleeding during that first week of the new pack; it’s not the most pleasant experience, but your protection should remain intact.
You could always take the standard 7-day break, but if you choose that route, I’d personally use backup protection for at least the first week of the new pack just to be safe.

Seriously, I have no clue who gave her such terrible advice.
These paranoid lines of yours are much better. 🙄

I've been on birth control for years and I've forgotten doses or taken them late in every possible combination imaginable—I don't even remember half of it anymore. And of course, nothing ever happened.
