Help! Period emergency! in Women's Health ·

Picture some girl crouching by her couch and laptop, frantically searching for something.

When you picture it that way, it's actually pretty hilarious.

But seriously, don't mess around when it comes to tampons.
If she isn't sure, she should just ask for advice and hear about other people's experiences instead of driving herself crazy with worry.

I'm pretty sure it isn't you—at least 99% sure. That remaining 1% is just the possibility that you didn't check thoroughly enough.
Just go to your OB-GYN tomorrow, if only to give yourself some peace of mind.
Don't let embarrassment stop you from going.

If you’ve really checked properly and felt nothing, I can guarantee there is no tampon left inside you.

Sandra Carter77 said:Fine, fine... if I can't find it and don't go to the doctor because it's "not there," and then things get complicated in a few days... great. Fine, I'll try my best...

First, search thoroughly to be absolutely certain nothing is there.
If you only inserted a finger an inch or two, you won't feel it, but if you pushed it in as far as possible—at least 3 inches or more—you should definitely feel it if it's still inside you.
It can't be any deeper than that; there simply isn't anywhere else for it to go.
The cervical opening is incredibly narrow (we're talking millimeters), so there is zero chance it moved past the vagina. Forget that scenario entirely; regardless of how much your friend scares you, she clearly doesn't understand female anatomy.
If that were actually a risk, they wouldn't even manufacture tampons.

Are you feeling any throbbing or discomfort?
If a tampon had been in there that long, it would have soaked through and shifted, meaning you’d feel it, if it hadn't already slipped out on its own.

The vaginal canal is roughly 3 to 4 inches long before you even hit the cervix.
There is zero chance that a tampon traveled further than that, and there is absolutely no way it entered your uterus—that's just pure nonsense.
So, let's look at the logic: if you can't feel it, where else would it be?
It obviously fell out; there simply isn't anywhere else for it to go.

That's true; there's nothing to be embarrassed about, but you can't get to the doctor until tomorrow.
Try every way possible today to figure out if that tampon is actually still in there.
I guarantee it hasn't gone deep enough that you can't feel it with your finger—unless you didn't go deep enough with your finger, which I doubt.
That's why I suggest having your boyfriend try; have him use his index and middle fingers together to reach all the way in. If he only uses one finger, he won't get deep enough.
If even he can't feel it, then it’s probably not in there.
When I insert a tampon, I push it in until it won't go any further, and that's when it "seats" and becomes unnoticeable. There is no way it can slip deeper than that.

Look, if you've gone in as deep as you can and still haven't felt anything, I’m 100% certain it slipped further up.
Maybe when you were heading to the bathroom and pulling your underwear down, you accidentally snagged the string—that's happened to me before.

Here is what I would suggest:
1. Ask your boyfriend to check; he'll definitely be able to reach deeper than you can.
2. Squat down and try to bear down—if it's still inside, you should at least feel a sensation of something being there.
3. Try sitting in a full bathtub and soaking for a while. Sometimes when I'm swimming in the ocean, my tampon will slip right down toward the opening. I usually have to sneakily push it back in until I find a private spot to change, because once it absorbs water, it gets heavy and swells—in those cases, it just slides out; there's no way it gets stuck.

What size was the tampon?
Mini, regular, or super?

Sandra Carter77 said:Yeah, but maybe when I was trying to find it this morning, I just pushed it even further in?! Not maybe—definitely.

Calm down, you're panicking over nothing.
There is zero chance you pushed it so deep that you can't feel it with your finger. If it’s still in there—there is no fucking way you won't feel it.
The vaginal canal isn't that deep—lady, seriously, relax.
It likely fell out, or you pulled it out yourself and just don't remember.
If it were still in there, you'd feel it with your finger.
Besides, you're supposed to push a tampon in until it's as far as it goes to seat it properly.
Push your finger in as deep as you can, or ask your boyfriend—he'll have an easier time doing it than you.
If you can't feel it, it fell out. There is no way it "got lost in the depths" because those depths are only about a few inches long.

Stop panicking for no reason; if the tampon isn't there, there's no need to see a gynecologist.
But, if you're really that much of a worrier, go just to settle your nerves.

I'm telling you straight—if it's still in there, you would have felt it, because you physically cannot push it that deep.
If you're still unsure, try squatting and bearing down—that's what you do if the string is lost and you can't grab it with your fingers.
That's usually how they come out, but if you can't feel it with your finger (even after pushing as deep as possible), then it's 100% gone and fell out somewhere.

And if it were still inside you and your period started, it would be so soaked that it would just slide right out.

Look, it fell out. I'm almost certain.

coastalviper17 said:That might be true, but would an enlarged uterus happen for no reason? Could it be something else? A doctor wouldn't have even checked if there wasn't something going on...

Look, I'm not a doctor.
We're just guessing here, which is why I told you to retake the test and get a second opinion from your OBGYN.
It’s entirely possible it's caused by something else.

The negative test is the weird part—it's possible she's pregnant, especially since some women on these forums mention testing negative even into their second trimester.
But that's rare, and drawing conclusions based on other people's stories is nothing but guesswork.

Robin Myers said:Cheap tests might fail if they miss a pregnancy, but once they show a positive, there's no debating it.

Exactly. They detect hormones that shouldn't even be in your urine unless you're pregnant, since those are produced by the placenta—unless we're talking about rare tumors.

Karen Johnson39 said:During my second pregnancy, I was two weeks late, yet the test came back negative. A few days later, I bought another one—still negative. It wasn't until about twenty days after my missed period that the third test finally showed a positive result.

That happens more often than you'd think. That’s why I suggested her hormones might just be too low for the test to pick up anything yet.
Still, she should probably just head back to her OB-GYN and get a straight answer.

Robin Myers said:I heard about someone who was actually having her period while three months pregnant...

Yes, it's possible.

How do you think fraternal twins happen?
One egg gets fertilized, then the ovary releases another one anyway, which also gets fertilized and implants in the uterus.

Besides, those "periods" during the third or fourth month of pregnancy aren't even actual menstruation.

Make sure to update us on the test results and what the doctor says.

coastalviper17 said:Her period arrived right on schedule, so there's no doubt it was actual menstruation, not just spotting. It lasted one day. The waiting is the hardest part...

I’d suggest heading back to the OB-GYN. This might not even be about pregnancy.

If the doctor claims she's pregnant but the test is negative, there could be an underlying medical issue. Don't ignore this. She needs to tell her doctor about the negative result so they can order follow-up tests if necessary.

Don't just sit there and wait... for how long?
She should retake the test tomorrow morning using her first urine of the day. The instructions say the test picks up trace amounts of hormones, but those levels are highest in the morning, which maximizes the chance of an accurate reading.

A period can happen during pregnancy, but it’s usually much lighter and shorter than usual. It makes sense why he might have assumed she was pregnant.
However, he shouldn't have stated it so confidently without being absolutely certain.

Clearblue is an incredibly reliable pregnancy test. If her period was already five or six days late—which it was—she would be far enough along for a test to catch it.

Either she isn't pregnant, or she’s one of those rare cases where a test comes up negative even into the second trimester due to lower hormone levels.
Pregnant or not? in Health ·
They should redo the test using their first morning urine sample.
Pregnant or not? in Health ·
What exactly did the OBGYN use to confirm the pregnancy? An ultrasound?

The test might have come back negative if she’s in the very early stages, or it could be an ectopic pregnancy (though a doctor would likely spot that—but not always). There’s also the chance she bought a cheap, low-quality test that requires much higher hormone levels to trigger a positive.

Just get Vagisil or First Response.

I know a guy driving a car with about 103 horsepower—not sure if he was over the limit or not—but he gets hit with a ticket every single time. He’s racked up so many points now that he’s officially losing his license.
So much for forgiveness.

You might want to run it by a lawyer to see if there's any way to argue that alcohol wasn't a factor in the accident.
I’m no legal expert, so I can't say for sure—but ask. There might be a loophole.
Don't expect them to hike up the damages for you. Houston County is going to collect one way or another, whether it's from you or your insurance, and I doubt you'll have much leverage over the final amount.
As for how much that actually costs... I have no clue.
Maybe someone who's been through this exact mess will see this and weigh in.

I don't want to nag you, but you might actually face a DUI charge on top of everything else—that’ll bleed you dry far faster than any fence ever could. Since you refused the breathalyzer, I'm not sure how they'll handle the technicality, but trust me, the cops won't just "forget" about that.
Maybe you could try arguing the accident wasn't caused by intoxication, but rather by slick roads or bad weather, hoping to limit your liability to just the DUI and let insurance cover the damages. Honestly? I wouldn't count on it.
Technically, if an accident happens and one driver is intoxicated, they aren't "automatically" at fault. It is possible to be drunk and still have the other driver cause the crash, though in practice, the cops and judges rarely let you off the hook; usually, the drunk driver ends up taking the fall.

Oh, please! I can't believe that costs 60 $0.00 (man, I paid more than that for my own car—and it was brand new!), stop being such a pessimist. You’re better off just asking someone, because I honestly have no clue.
And how did the police even find you if you just drove into a fence? Or did you hit someone and fly into the barrier?
