It’ll likely be interest charges and getting your card frozen. As for filing a lawsuit, you’re probably going to have to wait a bit longer. Most likely.

Wait, does the expiration date on the new card match the old one, or is it set to a different timeframe? 🤔

Do the older cards even work abroad? I haven't actually tested mine yet.
Honestly, I’d much rather just keep my current one—even if it lacks contactless—as long as I can still use it overseas without any issues.
Also, quick question: once the holder hits 27 and their status expires, does the card just stop working entirely?
Is it even possible to request a standard American Express instead? I mean, sure, it’s an option, but they’ll probably just shut me down. 😁

I just really hope they don't go around forcing contactless tech onto every single credit card they issue. 🙂

Man, I had no idea there was actually a cap on that account for installment purchases.

In the States? No way. But apparently, this Visa Inspire card is supposed to let you split payments into up to 12 interest-free installments.
Ask them, maybe you'll get lucky.

I’ve managed to pull off online payments before. Give it a shot, but don't hold your breath—it's definitely not a guarantee that it'll work every single time.
Since this only applies here in the States, you might just want to stick to taking payments from American customers.

Verification comes first. We might eventually get access to the index, but honestly, getting that verification sorted is the real priority here.

I think that really depends on the retailer more than the card itself. You can split it into as many installments as the store offers. And if they advertise zero percent interest for up to a certain number of months, you aren't paying any extra.
By the way, what on earth are you looking at buying that costs up to $667, where you can't even swing more than $67 a month to pay it off?
Look, I’m not trying to be nosy, but... it’s incredibly easy to get burned when you start playing games with credit cards. 🙂

If you’re carrying a Visa Electron, then yeah, obviously. Just go ask at the register.

No way, there’s no possible way the total comes out to more than $667.

I'm not sure if they'll freeze your account right away, but probably not. However, if you overdraw, you're definitely going to get hit with interest. And trust me, those rates aren't cheap.
Your best bet is to just call Chase and ask. But if you've already maxed out that Visa, you're looking at being in the red $1000.

So you've got a checking account, a savings account, and a credit card. That American Express is basically useless if you aren't physically in the States, but you can probably use the debit card for online shopping.
Bottom line: if you don't actually need the savings or credit cards, just leave them alone. Stick to using your checking account.

Neither, really. You could call this a stopgap measure, but honestly, until we find a candidate who actually checks every single box—and let’s be real, who knows if such a person even exists—our hands are pretty much tied. The only thing we can realistically do is keep a tighter leash on the trolls. 🙂

Look, just find me a replacement. I honestly don't care who takes over the spot; I've got plenty of other things to deal with in my life anyway. 😉
Besides, if the moderators aren't doing anything useful, it's not like it matters whether someone is actually watching this sub or not.
Or maybe it does...

Look, if someone like that actually shows up, we’d be more than happy to take the help. But the problem is finding someone who is both an expert and doesn't start massive fights—and more importantly, someone all the admins and mods can actually get behind at the same time.

Comparing this to the hard sciences is a total joke. On CNN, you can argue about these same topics forever and never reach a finish line; there just isn't one single "correct" answer for most things.

I'm telling you, everyone is never going to be happy. Either the moderation is too heavy-handed or it's way too lax. Someone is always going to find something to complain about. I'm pretty sure it's always been this way.

Look, we can't just turn a deaf ear to such beautiful, constructive, and brutally honest criticism. 😍
We’re going to try our best to weed out the trolls, but let's be real—you all know they aren't looking for growth or self-reflection. They don't care about changing their ways or acknowledging their flaws; they only care about one thing.
It looks like we'll have to deal with some partial deletions; those idiots are really just delaying the inevitable. 🙂

As John Kerry recently told those German students, Americans have a right to be stupid—it's part of our freedom. Sadly, it seems we have that same privilege here. 😁
It’s not like there’s a formal penalty for being an idiot or spewing nonsense; all we can really do is delete a post or issue a warning, but actually punishing someone for being dense? That’s a tough sell.
Besides, on the Linguistics boards, it’s pretty easy to spot who actually knows their stuff and who doesn't. You shouldn't let some random fool flying in every five minutes get under your skin; just ignore them.

PS. Daniel is more active over on the Linguistics threads, but when someone reports a post, whoever sees it first is the one who handles it. I can't monitor everything.
Stephen Colbert left... Honestly, it feels like all the old moderators from the old forums have vanished too. It seems nobody stays in charge for very long around here.

You aren't actually engaging with the topic; you're just obsessing over one specific user. I don't see any reports on the posts you're complaining about, so there's really no reason to fixate on them here.

That’s why we have moderators—thank God for small mercies—so you can lodge a complaint there. And look, you're right, the moderation in this sub-forum is a bit more relaxed than in other parts of the site, which works for some people and drives others crazy. If you think someone is wrong, prove it with a solid argument instead of just spitting on the person you're talking to. I could go ahead and delete Persephone's posts if you're asking, but they were posted three days ago, so they're basically ancient history by now.

The whole point of reporting a post is so users don't have to waste their energy debating who insulted whom.
Just report it and move on. It's that simple.

Honestly, we get reports constantly that feel like nothing more than playground whining. I seriously hope you guys don't run to snitch on everyone in real life just because someone disagrees with you. As a last resort, you have the ignore list, but apparently, nobody ever uses it... 😁

And just to wrap this up: if a post gets deleted (and believe me, it's definitely not the only one), it doesn't necessarily mean a rule was broken; it just means I KNOW it would have spiraled into total off-topic chaos.

That means the law was broken and it's punishable.

So, I guess your example is pretty stupid.☕

P.S. Not surprised if I get a strike just for using the word 'stupid.'🙂

Who calls them? Does the crime call itself? No, someone has to report it.
It’s the same logic: if you think someone is breaking the law on this forum, the admins can—just like on any decent site—hand over IP addresses to the police to track down whoever is violating the law. Why should everything just stop at empty threats?

Plus, you could actually sue the owner of this forum because they allow violence to be encouraged here, and on unknown, people were even talking trash about the LGBTQ community and stuff like that. Honestly, that's an open-and-shut lawsuit right there. 😍>

So, who's going first? Everyone talks a big game, but let's see some actual action. Many hands make light work...

The title is totally off base here. This isn't actually about kids with ADHD—it’s about today’s kids in general. Specifically, I'm talking about your typical, entitled, and downright disrespectful brats.
