Joseph Rivera75 said:The question itself is kind of pointless. Because saying something "shows who someone is"...
In reality, it shows nothing.
Theory is one thing; real life is another.
Life isn't black and white, and neither are decisions or people—nobody is just purely good or purely evil.
At the end of the day, one situation doesn't rule out the other.
Plus, there's a massive gap between actually living through something and just talking about it from the sidelines.

A real question would be: which is harder, being left behind or doing the leaving?
Is it tougher when the person you love doesn't love you back, or when you realize you've stopped loving someone you're supposed to?

And even then, there wouldn't be an answer, because both options suck.

Fine, I suppose it is devastating.
But since we are wandering through these topics, there is also the matter of detachment—of finally severing ties with a person.
Or perhaps, whether one will recognize a new direction in life when it arrives, or simply miss it entirely...

Actually, I get the feeling the question in the title is a bit more complicated than it looks at first glance, so... maybe if anyone has anything to add. 😁

Conscience

One could discuss this subject at length, yet it always seems to circle back to the same fundamental starting point...
Nobody I know enters a serious relationship with the intention of eventually settling for nothing more than quick, transactional encounters.
Opportunity makes a thief, I suppose, and life has a way of throwing all sorts of unexpected scenarios your way.
I’ve already adopted the philosophy that what we don't know can't hurt us.

As it stands, I know quite a few people who have actually forgiven that whole infamous deception and simply moved on, staying with the same partner...

Trying to idealize life is just plain foolish. Sorry if that sounds harsh.
Theory and practice are two entirely different beasts.

No hard feelings 😁

I'm really not following your logic here...

It’s always the other person's fault anyway, so the outcome is pretty much a foregone conclusion...😁
You reap what you sow—it’s one of those old proverbs that seems to apply to just about everything in this life.
One could spend an eternity lecturing on the nature of deception, particularly within the digital landscape, but I suppose we have already exhausted that particular subject on this forum more times than I care to count.
There is a certain school of thought that suggests there is no harm in a little fraud, arguing that if you don't know you've been cheated, it doesn't actually hurt...

You guys have already covered a lot of ground, so I'll try to throw in something new. Maybe it's the lack of responsiveness to a baby's needs or that emotional detachment during that first year of life. It leaves the deepest scars, and the kicker is that you can't even remember it happening later on.
Then there's the constant criticism—when parents reject a kid's actual personality because they don't fit some perfect image in their heads, and then dump all that guilt onto the child.
Or simply treating a kid like an object designed to check off the parent's personal ego boxes.

This is very well put.
Ah, a fascinating subject...
It won't take long to figure out who actually has kids here, which essentially serves as a quick way to identify who is currently partnered, married, or perhaps navigating life after a divorce.

I find socializing to be perfectly standard...
I’m curious if there is anyone here who rarely ventures out onto the sidewalk, perhaps even avoiding people altogether.
I suspect not.

The kind of people I'd probably roll my eyes at in real life, but here? Most of them are alright with me.

And what exactly would trigger such an eye-roll?

Are you just exceptionally stunning and magnetic?
Do you believe others simply don't measure up?
Or is this all based solely on a screen name?

Amazing...

Well, you are among people here, though I suppose that isn't quite true...
