Mixing pills and alcohol: Is it safe? in Health ·
Olivia Cooper27 said:I won't drag this out too much—I took about thirty 5mg Normabals, and I won't even get started on the liters of alcohol I downed beforehand... Look, I don't need a psychiatrist; I am not "mentally ill" or anything like that, and frankly, I don't need any help from those institutions because they'll just drive you even more insane. This was a breaking point—or more accurately, a complete breakdown. I slept for 28 hours straight, though I did wake up a few times before drifting right back under. No, thank you—I don't want an ER visit or a stomach pump; I’m just incredibly intoxicated and I can't talk or walk properly. Even a cold shower isn't doing anything; I managed to eat a tiny bit, but for the most part, I just can't function. I just want to get rid of these damn symptoms. Before anyone starts judging me, please don't—I'm telling you, after everything I've been through, I did what I did. No, I don't have suicidal thoughts; I just wanted to sleep off this wretched New Year and stop thinking about everything. Thanks in advance.

Yes—you need a doctor. And you need the ER. You took 30 mg of Normabrel plus liters of alcohol on purpose. That wasn't an accident.
You also need to talk to a psychiatrist. That doesn't mean you're mentally ill. But you aren't okay right now.
You aren't just drunk; you're poisoned. Yeah, things could still go wrong, even after some time has passed.
Go to the doctor.

goldenmoose25 said:I think you should use backup protection while taking the antibiotics and then for another 7 days after you finish (enough time to get back to seven consecutive days of pills). Pretty sure that's what the instructions say. It also depends on which pack you're using; if you're in your third week, you should probably skip the seven-day break entirely. If you take a break, you won't hit that seven-day streak required for reliable protection.

Yeah, that's exactly why I was asking. Thanks.
The Triquilin manual doesn't go into this much detail; it just says to use extra protection if you're taking antibiotics.
I started the antibiotics on the fourth pill, so I'm in week one.

I have a question. I need to take amoxicillin for a throat infection, but I'm on the pill.
Do I need extra protection just for those five days while I'm on antibiotics, or is the whole month a wash?

I'm getting a bit worried, and there’s no way I can get to my OB-GYN right now since everyone is out on summer vacation...

My period was late by about 3 or 4 days, which is normal for me. Then I started having this spotting and discharge—pinkish, like the first day of a period. It lasted three days before things finally picked up, but even then, it was unusually light and only lasted four days. Usually, my cycle lasts a full week and is quite heavy. This has been my pattern for all 13 years I've had it.

Since we're trying to conceive 😍 I wondered if it might be pregnancy. I read that you can have something resembling a period during early pregnancy, just lighter than usual. But I procrastinated buying a test. I don't know why... maybe fear of disappointment. It's been about a week or so since that bleeding ended, and for the last 2 or 3 days, my stomach has been cramping like it's about to start again. My abdomen feels bloated and tight... and it's starting to worry me. Is it possible to get my period again after only 7 or 8 days? Or what else could this be?

I honestly don't get why you haven't bought a pregnancy test yet. 😕
There's no way for us to know if you're pregnant 😁 or if your period is actually coming 😁
The only thing I can tell you is that a friend of mine had a very light, short period when she was pregnant, took a test afterward, and it was positive.
But that's just hearsay. 😉
Bottom line: go to a drugstore and get a test. Besides, there's always some doctor available who isn't on vacation if you don't feel like waiting for yours. Personally, I wouldn't wait if I were you.

I’m honestly terrified of messing up my body again. It’s only been a month on these pills, and now I’m scared I’m going to spend the next 3 or 4 months dealing with nothing but side effects.

Is there any way—like, any specific supplement or pill—that can stop these mood swings? Look, I really don't want to go heavy on the antidepressants, but maybe something mild and herbal would work?
It’s this sudden crying spell. Like, we’re just about to watch Kung Fu Panda 🙄 with my guy, getting the food ready, settling onto the couch, starting a movie, and suddenly I just start sobbing. My whole day was actually great. I feel like this might be crossing into deeper psychological territory (it doesn't feel like "normal" behavior or how a healthy brain should function).

Man. 😢
Based on the post you linked, those symptoms aren't exactly trivial...
Are you sure it's the pills?
Were you prone to mood swings or depression before this?
If you've dealt with any trauma lately, or if things are just rough with people around you, it might not be the medication.

But if it is the pills, go straight to the OB-GYN. Nothing is worth suffering like this.
I was argumentative for about seven days when I first started pills, and then it stopped.
I don't get these side effects from Triquilar, though I did struggle with depression and anxiety back when I was younger.

Trinovum is formulated differently than Triquilar or other combo pills.

It contains norethisterone, a type of progesterone particularly effective at treating amenorrhea—basically when periods stop entirely—as well as heavy or continuous bleeding. It’s also prescribed for standard contraceptive reasons like PCOS, endometriosis, and severe hormonal imbalances.

That specific progesterone has very mild antiandrogenic effects (unlike Logest), which means acne, oily hair, and weight gain are extremely common side effects.

It also carries a high dose of ethinyl estradiol at 0.35 mg throughout all three phases. Unlike Triquilar, the progesterone levels actually fluctuate during the cycle: 0.5 mg at the start, 0.75 mg in the middle, and a full milligram during the third phase.

That’s how my friend's gynecologist explained it when she started them. Essentially, it’s one of the strongest combined oral contraceptives out there.

These fall into the second generation of oral contraceptives. They're older than the third generation—the "expensive" ones like Yasmin, Yaz, or Triquilar—and they tend to have much harsher side effects.

The price tag is lower largely because it isn't part of the newest generation. Newer pills use more tolerable progestogens, which are usually the main culprit behind the side effects.

I don't get why you're making such a big deal out of it if you've already been prescribed Triquilar, which isn't expensive anyway. At the end of the day, health should come first. 🤷

Yeah, a three-month break. That’s what my gynecologist suggested... though he didn't actually give me a break, and now everything is just a mess.🙄

@shadowfox49, I didn't switch from Logest to Triquilar, it was Yaz to Triquilar. Can't tell you much yet, though. I just started the placebo pills... getting some spotting and stuff. It's annoying.

I'll take this for three months, then go back to Yaz or Yasmin, depending on what he decides after the tests.🙂

Anyway... I'll let you know how it goes after a few packs.😁

Alright, can briskmoose90 handle this? 🤷

I checked. It’s not an issue. It’s just writing out the number in words; the main handle stays the same.

Can you? No? 🙂

Fine. Just reach out to ZgSash.

Yeah, I read 😢

But hope is the last thing to die 🙂

Hm.

Can I get my Melody name without the numbers? Please. 🙂

If that isn't an option, I'm open to suggestions, provided my nickname stays the same.

Thanks.

What counts as a minimum break? I know my OB-GYN decides that, but still... just so I know in case I ever have to.

Let me answer that for myself and anyone else wondering. I called my OB-GYN to move my Monday appointment and asked about the shortest possible break. Naturally, he said there's no reason to stop if everything is fine.

But if a woman wants to stop for any reason—and there can be plenty—the minimum break is three months. Anything shorter isn't recommended.

🙂

Nathan Gomez8 said:Yes, you are late because of the pills. You shouldn't restart until you get your period, but it isn't really recommended to take breaks of only a month if you have already been cycling through them.

Roger Sullivan63 said:Look, try not to panic because there's really no reason to. That spotting you're seeing is just the hormones doing their thing.
I’d suggest sticking with the pills as usual despite the bleeding. Once your doctor gets back from leave, give them a call! Even then, every clinic in the US has coverage when a doctor is out on leave. If you're feeling truly anxious, you can stop, but don't quit mid-cycle. Just wait until you finish your current pack and then skip starting the next one.
Regarding protection, you should be fine, though you might want to be extra cautious just this month.

All good?

Okay, thanks a lot.
briskmoose90 said:Hey.

I’m reaching out because I’m getting worried, and my doctor is currently out on medical leave.

I’ve been on Yaz for about eight months. Everything was fine until recently—no side effects, no spotting. But for the last two months, things changed. Two months ago, I had a full period halfway through my cycle, not just spotting, but a real period. Then, this month, I bled again during my four-day break (around the 24th). This month, I only bled once, but it happened early—two days before the break.

My question is: when you're on the pill, is the period supposed to happen strictly during the break?
Has anyone else dealt with this? More importantly, was I still protected during these shifts, or does this mean the pills aren't working properly? 😲

Thanks in advance.

Sorry if I'm being annoying or if I didn't explain this clearly. My question might sound stupid, but I don't have much experience with birth control; this is my first time using it.

If anyone knows the answer, please let me know. Sorry for the bother, but my OB-GYN is out on leave until the 20th. 🙏 🙏
