Pretty decent flick. It’s not quite up there with the absolute best stuff those brothers have put out, but it certainly isn't bad either.

The songs are just so dull and uninspired, it’s actually painful...

It feels just like 95% of that whole British alternative rock scene back in the 80s.

Good grief, what a cliché-ridden, sugary mess. It feels like Once was really the peak of Carney's work, because honestly, both Begin Again and now Sing Street feel pretty lackluster by comparison.

The film is watchable enough, I guess, but there's nothing special about it. The songs are incredibly weak—even weaker than the ones in Begin Again (Once is just several classes above these two, where the tracks are totally forgettable and monotonous). It’s disappointing, really; there are way too many sappy scenes and the characters are just pure stereotypes...

If you want a actually good film about a band, you're better off just rewatching The Commitments.

Just dig some holes in the backyard, put up some cheap fencing from Home Depot, grab a bunch of balls at Walmart, and pick up some spray paint to color them all in ☕

What a load of nonsense. You’ve mostly got a group of actors who just can't seem to command the screen, whereas the original movie was anchored by some of the most legendary heavyweights to ever grace the silver screen: Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner, Henry Fonda, and Charles Bronson...

Look, it’s probably going to have to be scrapped. It's just the way things work. We'll likely be left with nothing but PES and FIFA.

Nah. Doesn't matter. What matters is what actually ends up on the screen.

DDL would deliver a top-tier performance even without leaning into Method acting, simply because he’s such a naturally gifted actor, but clearly, he’s chasing that absolute perfection. Take DiCaprio, for example—he was pretty rough in The Revenant, so I don't buy his process at all; you can just tell he's trying way too hard.

It really doesn't matter if someone spends five years prepping for a role or just an hour. The technique used is secondary to whether the performance actually lands. Nicholson could nail a role with almost no prep, while DDL might spend years getting ready, yet both come out with incredible results. Both feel authentic and believable to me, and that's the only thing that counts—not the specific way they prepared behind the scenes.

In my book, DDL is one of the most talented actors to ever do it, and hands down one of the best we've seen in the last 30 years. He's already sitting among the greats. He might not be my number one of all time, but he’s definitely in that top tier of 7 or 8 legends.

What do you mean, Russell Crowe? He’s just an okay actor to me. Sure, he has some solid moments in movies like Stop & Go or Insider, but nothing that really blows you away. He's pretty middle-of-the-road.
