I wouldn't exactly agree, since that's one of those movies where you can basically say Spoiler...Maybe he's the one...
Me and a buddy watched this movie together and man, that feeling just hit me hard... Honestly, pretty mediocre flick considering you've got Johnny Depp and John tortura leading the charge, not to mention David Koepp behind the camera...
@Xavi, ironcrane7, and Jose Miller17—I’ve been looking back over your posts, and honestly, I’m starting to think you guys are spot on. Yeah, Xavi, you’re totally right about how people just list things over and over again. It happens on most threads, but here it’s hitting an all-time high, and unfortunately, I’m partly to blame for that. Nobody actually wants to write a real review or share their actual thoughts to make a post interesting. Instead, they just pop in, drop a movie title, maybe throw in a one-liner or two (🙏) or link a thread (👍), or whatever (😲). That’s what encourages everyone else to do the exact same thing. All this mindless listing kills the point of the discussion and makes these threads completely boring... especially this one, thanks to a certain someone (😳)...
ironcrane7 said:Information terror—that is simply the era we live in. I used to consider hedonism to be that constant stream of audio-visual stimulation we are subjected to, where film is just one more way we keep ourselves hovering at this hyper-stimulated level. Because personally, I am a hedonist; I crave catharsis, that specific feeling where a movie keeps spinning in your head for weeks after the credits roll.
not sure where you lost that feeling, but I've still got it...🙂
As if I just watched the movie just so I could bring it up in a thread or start a whole discussion about it...😢
I’d love to dissect The Conversation with the same vocabulary you guys have, but I need to watch a few more films before I can even get close to that level (yeah, yeah, I know, someone's gonna say I'm watching movies just to improve my vocabulary😬).
Anyway, this Coppola flick is a seriously well-made claustrophobic thriller. It leaves you with a ton of questions while you're watching, which really helps build that effortless tension the movie is known for. It's packed with great shots and a raw atmosphere that gets under your skin, making it impossible to get up from your seat... definitely one of those movies I'll be revisiting at least once more for various reasons...
Larry Martin11 said:...this thread is basically the perfect case study for how much the values and life dynamics of Americans have shifted. It used to be that we’d discuss The Conversation based on whether it was—well, good or not—focusing on the twists, those unexpected endings, or even the "process" itself. We talked about what else could still catch us off guard in a movie. But now? Now we just list things endlessly. We exhaust ourselves trying to rank one thing over another—because apparently, in every single category, something must come out on top, which implies everything can just be filed away into neat little boxes. And as if that wasn't enough, we all just take it for granted that our categorizations are somehow (!) distinct from one another, even though none of us can actually explain why. We don't have the time to talk about it; we just need to keep listing. We'll obsess over cinematography, direction, the script, or the acting—those "standalone" elements that are easy to compare—but the actual quality of a film's unpredictability, its sense of wonder, requires me to completely redefine my entire way of watching movies. Honestly, that's too much work for three lifetimes...
...I honestly think this is the most depressing thread ever started on this forum. 😢 🙂

Anyway, everyone I wanted to bring up has already been mentioned, so...
When I was a kid, I found it so cool when (since we're talking about an Indian) the little girl in Signs kept leaving water out, and then later (spoiler ahead) you find out that aliens are actually terrified of water. That part totally fascinated me But honestly? Today, I'd probably think it was just silly. And shallow, too.
just landed from Mars😵
yeah, I meant The Conversation (The Conversation🙄) with Gene Hackman. That's the movie I had in mind when I dropped the link...🙂

don't change my thread title🙂
I'm not just talking about movies with a twist (there's already a thread for that). I mean movies where it's hard or even impossible to predict what happens next—not just thrillers, but dramas too. Like, you can't see certain events coming, such as someone committing suicide (😛), which completely flips the plot. (Already mentioned Identity). It doesn't strictly have to be a "twist"...
stay on topic
Requiem for a Dream 🙏
SpoilerThe movie was so dark and I wasn't even expecting anything close to a ''Happy Ending'', but those horrors at the end... I didn't see them coming in my wildest dreams...
Caught The New York Times by Francis Ford Coppola last night and man, left me feeling pretty "😲dark "... I know plenty of movies where you just can't see the twists coming, so it’d be cool to chat about them...
Fincheresque Se7en definitely hits hard for film buffs too...
Just please don't derail this thread into some "best happy ending movie" discussion...🙂
