Ceramic inlays vs. onlays: What's the difference? in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
I could use some advice. I’ve got a pretty significant cavity on one of my lower molars. It looks like a ceramic inlay or onlay is my best bet, but I’m stuck on a few things:

Which type of ceramic actually holds up better?
Should I go with a glass-ceramic like IPS e.max, or stick with something like Zircon?

Does using Zircon mean less tooth structure has to be ground away?

What’s the superior way to get this made and why?
Having it pressed at a lab
Lab-made CAD/CAM
In-office CAD/CAM

Since the decay is getting close to the pulp, would a composite filling actually be the smarter move?

If I do end up going the composite route, which brand do you guys think is top-tier?

Obviously, biocompatibility and longevity are my main concerns. From what I've gathered, a ceramic inlay/onlay isn't necessarily more durable than composite, and there seems to be a lack of reliable, long-term research regarding biocompatibility for either.
Basically, ceramics are likely biocompatible, whereas composites probably aren't. Zircon is relatively new to the scene, but they market it as being the most natural option. Does anyone here have more insight on this?
Thanks

Hey,
Quick question. Who actually handles the local anesthesia during minor procedures, like a lipoma removal? Is that the anesthesiologist's job or the surgeon's?

Thanks,

haha you're good. I don't have them myself, but my parents do.

Thanks for the link, stormyheron4. I'll check it out when I have a second, but honestly, regardless of what they conclude, I wouldn't recommend anyone use amalgam anyway.
The real question is whether there's an American dentist out there who actually knows how to remove amalgam safely. Let's be real—finding a dentist around here who follows the protocols described http://curezone.com/dental/dental_amalgam.asp is probably going to be a long shot. That said, I figure just using a rubber dam should be plenty of protection http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dental_dam. Is that something people actually use here?
Thanks

So, apparently, this stuff is still pure science fiction over here. Does anyone know which country in Europe has actually made the most progress with dental tech?

It’s considered proven until someone actually proves otherwise—though, honestly, I highly doubt anyone ever will.

It seems like nobody has a clue about this... If there's any risk from mercury sitting in a filling, then what happens when you actually swallow bits of it? That’s incredibly likely if someone gets a filling removed without proper protection.

Thanks, Angela Wright, but I’d rather get my facts straight before I head to my appointment. Does anyone know how you say lipom in English or German?
Thanks

There are plenty of studies out there backing this up, but honestly? I don't need a mountain of data. If there's even a shred of doubt that this is true, I'm sold. You can sit around waiting for "undeniable proof" while the local news stations finally decide to run a segment on it.

Thanks. Yeah, looks like a lipoma. I’m just stuck on whether I should actually touch it or leave it alone, since everything I read online contradicts itself. Does anyone know the specific medical terms for lipoma in English or German? I want to see what people are saying on those international forums.
Thanks

I could use some advice here. A few years back, I noticed a tiny lump under the skin right where my neck meets my upper back. It’s grown since then—it's about three-quarters of an inch wide now. It feels firm, but it moves around when I touch it. My gut feeling is it's just a lipoma, but I'd love to hear from anyone who's dealt with this. What did you guys end up doing?
For what it's worth, I eat clean, hit the gym regularly, and my metabolism is solid.
Thanks.

It’s no surprise that dental amalgam is linked to all sorts of health issues, given that it's packed with mercury—which is obviously toxic. I’m trying to find out if there’s a dentist here in the States who actually gets this and can safely remove old fillings. The removal process itself can be pretty dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

How to gain weight? in Health ·
Stay away from those chemical supplements—all that herbal nonsense. You don't need a PhD to realize that stuff isn't good for you. They just have massive marketing budgets, so people fall for the hype.
You can definitely gain weight naturally, but there's a limit based on your metabolism, which is actually a good thing. Eat healthy meals on a regular schedule. Get enough sleep. Talk to a nutritionist. Cutting back on activity will make you gain weight faster, but I wouldn't recommend that to anyone.
Bodybuilding is the most effective route, though it might not be everyone's vibe. Maybe some light weight training would help you out.
And don't overthink it too much. It’s pretty hard for a girl to get way too skinny, at least in the eyes of most guys 🙂.
