Since you went ahead and trashed my whole idea, you might as well tell me—was it actually worth it? Does your life feel even a little bit better now? 😕
Mark Nelson17: I’d honestly kill for a chance to see that flick again (if anyone out there happens to know anything more about this movie, I’m begging you for some intel).
ED209—I was totally obsessed with that thing when I was a kid. Gmazolet and the Boogeyman (someone brought up Captain Power earlier) That badass Robot from Judge Dredd plus that psycho with the thing on his forehead... honestly, just thinking about them ruins my mood. The Robot from Saturn 3—that thing absolutely terrified me back in the day.
Think of this as the spot to dump those movies that didn't exactly set the box office on fire here in the States, the ones most people haven't even heard of but definitely deserve some love. (It’s way easier to just keep one running list going rather than cluttering up the forum with a million different threads) I've got two relatively recent ones to kick things off:
- WARRIORS, MUS : It's a Korean historical martial arts flick, though honestly, the fighting feels more like a gritty, realistic brawl from the 13th century than any stylized "Kung Pow" nonsense, mixed in with some solid drama. I'd recommend it to pretty much everyone, from the high-brow cinephiles down to the absolute low-brow masses—and hey, don't take it personally, I'm usually right there in the gutter with them😁 . Rating: a solid 5 Hopefully, it hits the streaming services soon. 🙏
- EQUILIBRIUM : A mashup of The Matrix, Orwellian vibes from 1984, and Fahrenheit 451; it's genuinely worth your time. Some critics will try to claim it's just a cheap knockoff of The Matrix, but from what I gathered, nothing they're doing actually exists in The Matrix. 👍 Rating: probably a 4 for me (might be some plot holes, but you still gotta see it) Supposedly coming to VOD in about two weeks.
So, this movie titled "Warriors"—which is apparently some heavy Korean war drama—just rolled through a few local theaters here in the States, and since I haven't seen anyone else bringing it up, I was wondering if anyone actually caught it or if I'm just alone in my obsession.
Honestly though, the film is worth a mention regardless.
And what would even be the point of all that? Some massive global conspiracy or something? It says right there what happens if a signal actually gets confirmed—you just notify the United Nations. Besides, verifying a signal would require a bunch of different independent groups to weigh in, which means there’s basically zero chance they could keep it under wraps.
I mean, obviously, anyone who stumbled onto that kind of data would want to exploit it for their own gain; you really think they'd just hand it over to some researcher out of the goodness of their heart or some naive hope for a better future for humanity? 😛 (who knows what they're hiding there)
(If people were actually that decent, we wouldn't still be burning fossil fuels to get around, and honestly, you don't need to be a paranoid conspiracy theorist to see how much shadow play goes on behind the scenes)
In a way, even SETI is patented now. I mean, if your rig actually manages to pick up some signal from deep space, you really think they’re just gonna broadcast it to the public? They’ll probably just grab that data, bury it where nobody can see it, and you’ll be left wondering if you ever actually found anything at all. You likely won't even realize something was discovered. 🙄
Honestly, you really have to watch everything with a grain of salt.
Anyway, here's another absolute masterpiece for the collection: "RoboCop 2," a movie so spectacularly terrible in every single department that it actually circles back around to being a work of art. (Just to be clear, they didn't try to make it this bad; it just is, and honestly, finding something worse might be impossible—even "Shadowchaser" looks like a high-budget epic compared to this disaster)
If you're looking for something to watch, you really need to track down Peter Jackson's debut, Bad Taste—it’s a bit of a hunt to find it these days, but trust me, it's worth the effort.
(Honestly, calling it a B-movie is an understatement since it's pure cult legend status, even if it's technically just gross.) 👍
Alright, look, it’s not even really a movie, but does anyone actually remember those early, original episodes, and has anyone maybe managed to snag some old recordings? Or if you guys happen to know where I could track down the old sequels...
Man, they were at their absolute peak back then, not to mention how they were basically prophets, predicting half the stuff that's happening now through their sketches. 🙏
