50,000! That’s just what they managed to sum up over all three days, plus a little extra on top.

Man, The Flaming Lips were pure bliss 😍 absolutely stunning, even though I missed the opening and the hot air balloon ride. But hey, I got to catch the incredible Caribou set instead 😬 and the Broken Social Scene was just beautiful 😍 honestly, what an incredible day. I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!
p.s. Everything was seriously well-run—the drink tickets, the food, the prices—everything was a perfect 5/5!

It was honestly amazing!!! I had such a blast, and they actually blew Elcid out of the water. Elcid was pretty terrible after the third song, though they did pick it up right at the end.
No umbrellas, no drinks, and definitely no food allowed.

Check this out! It's not Nokia anymore, it's Sony Ericsson now 😬
Looking at this lineup all at once? It’s absolutely killer.

Best tribute bands?

Robin Rodriguez5 said:Believe it or not, Beethoven wrote way more than just symphonies. He actually started out as a pianist playing other people's music before he really hit his stride as a composer. That Ninth Symphony you mentioned was one of his final major works.
Look, I don't get why you're lecturing me. It's not that I don't believe you; it's just that anyone with a high school diploma already knows this stuff.
But you still can't compare modern rock bands—in any sense of the word—to classical music. There is zero point in me sitting here trying to break down the flaws in that analogy or explaining the massive gap between a composer and a rock band. They come from completely different worlds. You already know that. 😁

Robin Rodriguez5 said:The whole point of classical music isn't having someone else play it. Before orchestral versions became a mass-produced thing, the composers played their own pieces.
I picture Beethoven
starting Ode to Joy
running frantically from one instrument to the next
trying to play everything himself
but the poor guy just can't keep up
and ends up in tears.

I went to... a The Cure tribute show. That’s all there is to it. Honestly, I probably only went because I don't really listen to any of those bands that always seem to be targets for tribute acts. Part of it is just that I hit up a few original band shows every single week. When you spend that much time listening to the "real deal," tribute gigs just feel ridiculous. Besides, I'd much rather drop my time and money on actual original artists.
As much as these "tribute" guys and girls try to perfectly mimic their idols—to an almost absurd degree—they end up being nothing more than glorified CDs, or better yet, black-and-white photocopies. I'm not saying these events can't be fun; I'm sure a handful of people on this forum had a blast at that Iron Maiden tribute back in June. In fact, sometimes seeing a tribute band made up of young, high-energy kids is a way better experience than watching some "original" old geezers stumble through a set. It's also just as fun to jump around or vacuum the house while blasting a favorite CD.
Listening to famous songs surrounded by good vibes and maybe a beer or two is hard to call boring, but it will never match a "real" concert experience. The truth is, a tribute show will never come close to that synergistic feeling you get at a great concert where everything just clicks—whether you know every lyric by heart or it's your first time hearing the songs, whether they came out two months ago or twenty years ago.

Honestly, I should probably just start my own thread on Reddit and vent about how my posts get deleted for no reason. I’d write three massive essays explaining exactly why your tactics are unfair and how this entire site is falling apart because you cave to every single illiterate troll who's just loud enough to be annoying. If anyone actually cares about getting things sorted, even better—it’ll give me someone to drive crazy, which keeps things interesting. Using multiquotes is honestly the best way to keep an opponent confused. Then, while waiting for a resolution, I could report every suspicious music post and act all shocked by the swearing, staying perfectly in character.
But you know what? I won't. That would be insane. 😁

Oh, sure. A booking for Muse or Crystal Castles costs way more than Nick Cave, Franz Ferdinand, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Kraftwerk, Moby, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Morrissey combined 😁 clearly you really understand how the concert promotion business works 😁
Fall was at Rockaway Beach, if I remember correctly 😁 and he was the absolute best ever 😍
