Brenda Cooper3 said:African American women often go without bras, and by the time they hit their 30s, things tend to sag, leaving them looking like just a bit of loose skin hanging there. Back in the Middle Ages, even showing an inch of skin was considered scandalous since shorts weren't really a thing; even the slightest glimpse could trigger some wild fantasies. So, it isn't really about breasts themselves; it’s more about how society decided to draw lines in the sand, labeling certain things as taboo while letting others slide... Forbidden fruit is always the sweetest, which explains why people around here find breasts so incredibly enticing.
If the tables turned—if feet suddenly became "forbidden" and breasts were treated as totally mundane—I honestly think the obsession would shift toward feet overnight... Now, why exactly did society decide that breasts were the forbidden zone instead of feet? Well... who knows.
But look, if we declared that women could dress like men—meaning walking around shirtless—I bet men would lose their minds at first, but eventually, they'd be just as indifferent as people are toward what happens in Africa.☕
Exactly! That's basically what I was saying earlier!
So, the big question is WHY DOES SOCIETY PUSH THIS???? So much has changed in the modern era, but this feels stuck in the Middle Ages! I hear you... ☕
Why do they always blur or pixelate women's breasts on TV or in photos?
Or even worse, when you see a breast but the nipple is blurred out! 😕 It’s funny because men can show their nipples just fine, but women can't, even though it's basically the same thing!
Why is a breast treated like a "sexual organ"? It makes it seem like they're directly tied to sex and arousal, as if showing a breast is the same as showing genitals!
Besides, if breasts weren't considered taboo, they probably wouldn't be such a huge focus of male fantasy. (Some studies suggest that in parts of Africa where women walk around bare-chested, men aren't obsessed with them; they just see it as a symbol of femininity). Plus, it feels like no other culture views breasts as sexual to the extreme extent that Western culture does!
I've seen how my girlfriends react when they see a woman breastfeeding! Women actually get shocked by it themselves. It's like people think it's something that should only happen in a bathroom, like using the toilet! Honestly, most women won't even try nursing a baby in public just to avoid being judged!
In many tribes, it's totally normal for women to show their breasts, and nobody thinks, "Oh my god, she's naked!" [LINK TO IMAGE REMOVED]
It’s also super interesting that a woman who doesn't have much of a chest—basically flat like a guy—still can't show her chest, while a man with gynecomastia can show his! So, it tells me it isn't about the breast itself, but rather the idea of a woman being "naked" or exposed!
I feel like we've gone WAY too far with hiding breasts. We turn them into this mysterious, exciting, hidden thing, when at the end of the day—it's just a breast. 🤔 I'm curious what you all think about this... Why is it considered shameful for someone to see a breast (other than a partner)? How did we even get to this point? And why is breastfeeding in front of others supposed to be embarrassing?
I have my own theory that society hides breasts just to make them more sexually attractive, but I'd love to hear your thoughts...
I’d just add a couple more: - fashion and beauty (feels like the same crowd hangs out there) - spirituality, honestly I don't think it lags far behind the alternative or religious groups
Melissa Castillo said:For sure. But it’s not even about them being pregnant, they're just annoying. No need to feel threatened—they drive me crazy at weddings too. 🤷
No reason for me to feel threatened! I'm not pregnant and I'm definitely not getting married! 🤣
Melissa Castillo said:I’m really big on Alternative, but Zud and pregnant women, RiD, and stuff like that are right behind them... 🤮. I don't even bother with most of the other subreddits; they're all just total chaos, honestly such a waste of time.
Are people psycho just because they're pregnant????? 😂 You're such a gem...
feraltrucker5 said:And most importantly: which subforum is filled with absolute psychos totally unhinged? I’d say the US one—I’ve got plenty of receipts to prove it. 😁
What do you guys think? 🍿
The alternative option with all its subforums, except for "fringe science" RELIGION SPIRITUALITY LIES - maybe they aren't quite psychos, but honestly, it feels like mostly just immature people hanging out there...
As for PSYCHOLOGY—you get some folks who totally snap and come looking for advice, but there are way more regular people who just love chatting about how humans act. So, I wouldn't really label it that way!
feralseal10 said:Maybe it's because "suffering" is basically just a fancy way of saying you turn the other cheek. Like, someone throws a rock at you, and instead of throwing bread back, you just take the hit. You end up with a lump on your head, but hey, you didn't retaliate—you're a good little Christian, spreading love and all that. At least, that’s how I interpreted it growing up while my mom dragged me to service every Sunday, haha.😁
Look, people are just wired this way. They'll weaponize just about anything. Some people actually have issues, some people worry they might have issues so they go down a Google rabbit hole (and end up convinced they're dying or totally fine), and then there are the ones who performatively act out, inventing drama just to stay in the spotlight.
There’s also the whole overpopulation thing to consider (maybe we should get more educated on birth control 😛), which adds layers to the explanation. But really, it boils down to this: You hang out with a friend. You guys joke around, she’s upbeat, everything is chill—just standard, lighthearted conversation about life and big dreams. It’s a normal vibe, you chat, you part ways, and that’s that. Then you have the *other* kind of friend. She’s got a thousand problems. Everything is wrong, everything is terrible, she’s depressed, she’s crying, she’s moping... And obviously, you don't want to be a jerk and leave a lady stranded in the middle of town, so you step in to comfort her. You ask "what happened?" and try to soothe her. That attention ends up being way more intense than the fun time you had with the first friend—mostly because you’re walking on eggshells, terrified that if you say one wrong thing, she’ll burst into tears or blow up at you after thirty minutes of peace. Most people are addicted to that intensity. It’s heavy, and honestly, hardly anyone has the guts to just say, "Hey, shut up already, you're being exhausting." But nobody wants to look like the "bad guy."
Personally, I gravitate toward people with positive energy. Usually, a little bit of that rubs off on you and you actually feel happy 🙂. Or maybe we’ve all just had our brains washed. There's constant garbage in the world; you can practically predict the news cycle (doom, doom, and more doom)... Maybe we just don't know any better anymore. 🤷
(Yeah, yeah, whatever. Kids these days will probably grow up watching versions of Cinderella where the prince is a total jerk and Cinderella just pops a pill because her love life is a wreck.)
P.S. lol here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QHJzWddOa8. (If you're actually dealing with serious issues, please don't take this to heart)
goldenraven9 said:Do you see a bit of yourself in that?
Being "emo" is trendy. There isn't much profound wisdom to be found there.
BRAVO! I totally forgot about them! Emo is basically that vibe!
Yeah, they all act like teenagers, but honestly? It's just because us adults realize how silly it is. If someone showed up to work or college looking like that, people would probably think they're having a breakdown. Adults just find different ways to be losers!
Though, honestly, the emo thing is so huge it probably needs its own thread!
Is this just an excuse for being lazy and a coward?
It’s basically like saying, "It's not my fault, it's my environment, it's my mom for being strict, I have seven different diagnoses, I'm totally helpless, life is just out to get me, there's nothing I can do."
And then you just use that as a reason to stay curled up in bed and do absolutely nothing?
What do you guys think?
Also, looking at how churches operate (like I mentioned earlier), I really don't get why they put such a huge emphasis on suffering.
Larry Howard8 said:You make a good point, but most of them are actually quite sick, they didn't choose this state of mind and they're trying their best to get out of it, though you do get those people who just want to stay miserable because they're bored since they don't have any real problems to deal with...
🤷
Of course, I'm not talking about the people dealing with actual, heavy-duty struggles—this doesn't apply to them at all.
But hey, everyone thinks their own little issue is the biggest deal in the world... 🤷
Honestly, being happy seems way too easy and kind of boring!
If there’s an 80% chance things are awesome and only a 20% chance they suck, everyone still finds a way to spiral and act like it's the end of the world! It’s like that classic move: "I GOT AN A!!!!!!!!!!!!!" even though you actually scored an 87% on the test.
Like when some girl starts a thread panicking that she might be pregnant, driving herself crazy, even though the odds are basically 0.00000046 %. She could have just grabbed a Starbucks and worked on a crossword, or even just sat out in the sun for a bit!
Then you see another thread where a ton of people say they wouldn't have even been born if they had the choice!
If there isn't a problem, we can always just invent one! When everything is going great, we start worrying about a black hole swallowing the country, or a meteor hitting YOUR specific car, or a volcano erupting in your backyard. And if nothing else works, there's always: "Ugh, I can never be 100% sure my partner isn't cheating on me!"
Just look at the whole swine flu scare. Even if you're perfectly healthy and it would just be a couple of days of fever, we turned it into a massive panic. It was all over the news and every newspaper, everywhere you looked!
To wrap it up, it feels like people would rather choose suffering over an easy life. They just ignore everything that gives them a reason to smile and focus entirely on why things suck!
By the way, what’s the big symbol of faith in our society? THE CROSS!!!!! The Cross, folks! It's a symbol used to glorify Jesus' SUFFERING! We celebrate it in church constantly. You hear it during Mass—stuff like "blessed are the poor," "blessed are the hungry," "blessed are the oppressed." The church glorifies suffering! It teaches that you need to suffer here on Earth to make it into heaven later. Like, Jesus was on the cross for a few hours after living 33 years, so that's all we focus on!
And if your life is actually perfect, you can always just reminisce about some drama you had ten years ago! Or look at those old ladies on the bus who look like they want to bite your head off, wearing enough makeup to barely hold their faces up, lecturing everyone about kids, politics, or quoting Latin to complain about how teenagers play violent video games (when they probably don't even know what a computer is). Basically, if nothing is bothering you, you can always stress out over someone else's lack of morals! Then you become a victim again because: "I live in such a wicked and cruel world, I just can't stand the suffering and evil people inflict on each other."
We can even stress about how millions of chickens are slaughtered every single day just to feed people! Gross.😢
Mostly, this whole pile of mental issues and nonsense... come on people, snap out of it! You're healthy, you have food, you can grab a drink, you can afford your coffee, the sun is still yellow, the air is fresh, you've got friends, maybe a dog, a TV, and if you've got a partner, hey, that's great too. Life is beautiful if you actually choose to see it that way!
I’d also add one more difference between male and female serial killers. Aside from the Bloody Countess I mentioned earlier, women usually don't kill just for the thrill or pure sadism. It's more about getting something out of it—like that one American woman who poisoned about eight people and is classified as a serial killer (I can't recall her name right now).
Regarding that movie Monster where Charlize Theron played the lead, she was portraying Aileen Wuornos. She killed seven men, but she was a prostitute and a lesbian. People say she was driven to those acts by rapes she endured, which left her with this deep hatred for men. Plus, she had such a rough childhood with all the abuse and neglect that she actually started working as a prostitute when she was only nine.
Taylor Parker10, you're scaring me! How are you still active on this thread with a handle like that? 😁
EDIT : sorry silentpilot6, I just realized you already pointed out that difference.
But then again... things aren't quite that simple. Recent research suggests that the so-called Bloody Countess wasn't nearly the monster she's been made out to be. Some even argue the entire legend was manufactured because certain powerful circles wanted to smear her reputation and ruin her family's legacy. And now... only God knows what the truth really is. 🤷
That list of 650 girls? It still exists. All those trial documents proving this happened are kept right now in the national archives in Budapest.
I don't know, but faking hundreds of murders and having a huge crowd of witnesses who actually carried out the torture? That would be the biggest conspiracy in history, and it wouldn't even make sense just to ruin someone's reputation...
Maybe I'm overthinking it, but if even a tenth of that story is true, it's still way too much!
Speaking of women, nobody mentioned Elizabeth Bathory. She was this Canadian countess back in the 1500s who used to kill young girls—probably around 13 to 17 years old, given the era. She actually drank their blood because she thought it would keep her looking young.
It all started when she hit one of her maids and saw the blood splatter on her skin. She honestly thought her skin looked younger right there, so she killed the girl on the spot and bathed in the blood. She even designed torture devices, like this spiked coffin where she’d put a girl underneath so she could shower in the blood.
Or, during the winter, she’d take a naked girl outside and pour freezing water over her until she froze solid.
The crazy part is that they found a list on her desk with the names of the girls she murdered, and it had 650 girls on it.
Such a fascinating and terrifying case to me... I feel like people don't talk about it enough, especially considering that number. That might just be the list; the actual total could be way higher.
She's known as the "Bloody Countess," and there's even a movie about her, though I think it might be an American production or something, I can't quite remember.
Anyway, if anyone's curious, you can find everything on Wikipedia.
Daniel Wilson5 said:So, look, what I’m actually getting at isn't about nymphomania... it's something else entirely. I just don't wrap my head around these impulses where sex becomes the absolute priority. Honestly, I can't even relate to that mindset, which is why I struggle with it. I thought maybe someone could give me a professional perspective here. For instance, the idea of sex without any emotional connection makes my skin crawl—though I suppose that's just labeled a "female dysfunction" by some... And sure, I get the occasional grooming thing, but treating constant sexual pursuit as a full-blown lifestyle? It’s bizarre. How is it possible for some people to never develop actual feelings for others? Are they just brain dead? You know... are they just flatliners? That's what scares me. I genuinely cannot fathom where that state of being comes from. I just want to understand it so it feels less alien... and so I don't feel so threatened by people like that. That's all.
I feel the exact same way... Totally agree! 🤷 It's hard because I just don't get it, and man, I wish I did... If I tried doing things that way myself, I don't think it would help me understand them better; I'd probably just end up feeling miserable the next day.
