A Dance with Wolves!?
Such an incredible—well, almost—four-hour epic...
or maybe Kenji Mizoguchi!
Southern Comfort in Movies ·
Hill is always a big deal, but let's be honest—he isn't exactly the most talented director out there... though he definitely knows how to pick his crew, which has led to some absolute cult classics!

Anyway, I'm still holding out hope for a decent release of this film—especially once it finally hits the shelves in the USA!

Great movie... actually, more than just great!
They had it everywhere in the video rental stores... back home, we even got a double feature release!
Well, looking at IMDb, it’s pretty obvious... though I probably need to go watch that Jordan film first just to be sure!

Man, you really are persistent with getting the movie title wrong!

Look, the guy directed a total masterpiece like The Usual Suspects and then just kind of drifted off into those X-Men movies and Superman stuff, and now we're stuck with this Valkyrie thing. It’s a long shot, honestly. I don't see him ever pulling off another lightning-in-a-bottle moment like he did back in '96.

Valkyrie 😉

But honestly? That movie is great—one of the best adaptations based on actual WWII history out there!

And yeah... the X-Men and Superman flicks are pretty mid, if I'm being real.
And why not?
I mean, no single movie should be considered "sacred cow"—nobody should be barred from taking another crack at a title that's already been filmed... besides, most films are just adaptations of someone else's work anyway, rather than being purely the director's own idea!

It doesn't quite fit—but other than that, the film was actually really good... just a heads-up though, people usually end up disappointed after reading the book. It’s nothing weird—it’s just that they have this specific vision while reading and won't let themselves change it, and that vision almost never matches what the director had in mind.
Just one of those Leonov westerns... honestly, it’s all just a matter of taste!
Lang's stuff!
Kurosawa's samurai films—ideally if they're those incredible Criterion editions!
The Lord of the Rings complete EE set
And the only truly flawless release... Bryan's Life!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (it's a pretty rough translation, honestly)

If you're going to insist on translating literally, at least use the original title—which isn't even English in this case... otherwise, maybe try doing a little research yourself, then you'll realize our version is actually more than ACCURATE!

Jerry Adams71 said:Are Birch and Lone Wolf available for purchase? They're digitized and streaming on DirecTV—but I'm not sure if they ever actually hit DVD.

Actually, those aren't really meant for the general public—they were released on DVD, but apparently only for specific institutions and private clubs... though, honestly, even I'm a little fuzzy on who actually ended up getting them!
The greatest year for movies? in Movies ·
The Battle of the Mississippi, Che!, Django Unchained, Easy Rider, When You Hear the Bell, Army of Shadows, The Fall of the Dea, Mackenna's Gold, Midnight Cowboy, Paint Your Wagon, Shinjū, Burn!, The Italian Job, The Wild Bunch, Topaz, Z..........Gavras, Visconti, Bulajić, Pontecorvo, Peckinpah, Melville—and honestly, what can you even say about a legend like Midnight Cowboy or Easy Rider!?

We shouldn't forget that two fantastic short films also came out that same year... Well, take Tijuana Toads for instance... and I'm just picking a year at random here 🙂

Between *Citizen Kane*, *The Shining*, *The Last Samurai*, *The Battle of Algiers*, and dozens of other "Criterion" editions... I’ve only scratched the surface of what's on my shelf—and don't even get me started on the ones I'm still hunting for!

I mean—if they weren't such a total mess, those bands would actually be masterpieces!

When you watch Lynch, you aren't looking for logic—it’s all about the raw emotion.
Look, >, you're talking nonsense—unless we're talking about stuff like *Memento*, *Sin City*, *The Fountain*, or *The Man from London*! I honestly have no clue what else has been playing lately... since I rarely make it to the theater myself.

Laura Palmer25 said:And it’s not just The Deer Hunter. Dragon Tales is actually great, and honestly, I love Heaven's Gate—call it what you want, I don't care.

Cimino really flopped for me with The Sicilian. It’s the kind of nonsense you only make if you have zero restraint.😲

I haven't seen much else of his.

Heaven's Gate is a total masterpiece. Cimino definitely has three or four top-tier films under his belt!
It’s pretty interesting—everyone seems to be raving about how great Lancaster’s voice acting was (even Burt himself went totally overboard). Even the critics over here in the States agreed that you really have to watch this movie exactly how Visconti intended—the long version, in Italian. Sadly, you can't even find a legal copy of that version anywhere in the US!
Even if you manage to track down an English dub—though at least you'd get Lancaster's original voice—you're likely just looking at a truncated cut... I'm pretty sure the Criterion Collection release includes both versions, though!
