Are you actually suggesting a pharmacist knows how to dose something like Glucophage better than a doctor who is looking right at the lab results?
Or are we talking about supplements or things like Normabel?
Sorry if I'm being "clueless," but this has truly never happened to me... I'm genuinely stunned.
I have no problem turning to a pharmacist for advice on over-the-counter stuff, but agreeing to let them adjust medication prescribed by a doctor who just finished my diagnostic workup? That is a hard pass for me.
How are they even supposed to change a dose? If there’s a doubt, they should send it back to the physician. Taking it upon themselves to alter a prescription... that's a bold move, to say the least.
They aren't going to change a dose if it falls within the standard range. However, if a doctor prescribes a significantly higher dose than usual without marking it as an "intentional" increase, the pharmacist is required to consult with them to verify if it's an error or the patient's specific therapeutic dose. It's probably for the best you haven't experienced that first hand. 😉 Do you really think pharmacists spend five years in school just to learn about "supplementary" meds? There's nothing brave about it; they simply know exactly how to handle cases where a physician's dosage exceeds the norm.
mistyjackal842 it isn't just about drug abuse; it's about the
proper and rational use of medication, as well as preventing potentially lethal interactions between drugs a patient might be taking.

The pharmacist acts as a safety net to prevent disasters, not the other way around. Let's be real—doctors aren't always experts on exact dosing... they frequently prescribe something just to "knock a patient out." The one truly specialized in pharmacology and precise dosing is the pharmacist. It isn't just an option; they MUST correct a dose, otherwise, they end up liable for whatever mistake the doctor made in the first place.

At this rate, you'll probably have to show an ID just to buy some Advil. It makes zero sense. Not only will the whole system collapse, but there's no way I'm ever stepping foot in a local City Pharmacy again...
A pharmacist isn't some idiot; they are trained professionals tasked with dispensing what a doctor prescribes. They can adjust a dosage if necessary, or more importantly, spot a dangerous interaction with something else a patient is already taking and send them back to their doctor to fix the treatment plan. By the way, they don't see your entire life story; they only see what falls under their expertise—the specific medications you're using. They aren't tracking everything people grab off the shelf because "the neighbor said it works," regardless of whether it's safe for their current regimen. And let's be honest, Advil isn't for everyone either...
My mom went in for that procedure back in December. She mentioned it wasn't nearly as bad as a colonoscopy, if that helps at all... 🤷
I think you’re doing exactly what you should be doing. A pediatric neurologist ought to be able to answer most of those "million" questions you have, and honestly, a speech therapist is just as vital to this process. You also made a smart move applying to the ERF; their diagnostic capabilities are top-tier.
As a parent myself, I also seem to have about a "million" questions—the biggest one being when my child will finally be healthy, and if they’ll ever reach that 100% mark, at least by our standards. Sadly, nobody can give us a definitive answer to that. But with all the hard work, dedication, and love we pour in as parents, we’ll make incredible progress. I completely share your anxiety, though I’m practically speechless regarding that psychologist... 🙄
We’re also planning to apply to the ERF for another observation once the ear tubes are in place...
I'm not sure if this will give you any courage, but you really ought to reach out for a professional evaluation. We are actually right in the middle of the diagnostic process ourselves—my son doesn't show the exact same patterns, mind you—but every single doctor we've seen has pressed us on the same thing: does he repeat stereotypical behaviors, and can he be easily diverted from them? If that's the case, they flag it as a potential issue and move forward with more intensive testing...
Keeping my fingers crossed that everything turns out alright. 🙂
I’m looking for some solid recommendations for an ENT specialist. My child needs a myringotomy—basically getting those ventilation tubes inserted—and we’ll likely be looking at an adenoidectomy as well.
If anyone has experience with specialists at Mount Sinai, I’d be incredibly grateful, though I’m definitely open to exploring other top-tier hospitals in the area...
Thanks! 🙂
During my labor, I had at least ten different women hovering over me, most of them medical professionals from the prenatal classes. Some were holding my hand, others were massaging my back; one even managed to make me burst into tears. She asked if my husband was coming, but he was stuck on a business trip overseas when things started moving, and I was just sitting there hoping he’d make it... hormones are a hell of a thing, so I'm sobbing away, and the poor girl just tells me she needs to take a quick break... 🤣 Looking back, I almost found it endearing how they all tried to manage me—constantly whispering about whether they might let us out of the hospital early today. I suppose I was exactly like that during my pregnancy classes, too; I wouldn't have given a damn about the woman on the table suffering through contractions. Once the delivery actually kicked into gear, everyone lined up, and since my baby was still wrapped in the umbilical cord, there was this frantic scramble between the nurses and the doctors...
When they asked if the crowd was bothering me, I told them honestly: I wouldn't have cared if George W. Bush were handing out medals right in front of me—when you're in labor, the pain is absolute hell. Once my son finally arrived, I didn't give a single thought to any of them. The only people I felt like strangling were those who refused to give me an epidural, thinking, "Just do it now, because it's going to be over before you know it." An audience doesn't bother me... they really should learn some professional boundaries. Besides, I spent enough time pacing hospital hallways and playing "doctor" during my prenatal training to know that patients are usually much more nervous about the chaos than we are...
If it took you a full year to pack on 25 pounds, it’s going to take just as long to shed them... trust me 😁
There’s a chance you might be dealing with pinworms. Honestly, just do a quick search online and then head over to your doctor; they can send you off for some lab work to confirm whether that's actually what's going on. It's also possible you're just irritating yourself if you're being a bit too aggressive with how you clean up down there... 🤷
We ordered a massive cake intended for 90 people, and somehow we still have about a third left over. As for the sweets—15 kg of pastries—we’re down to just about 1 kg. We also had 5 kg of savory biscuits, and there's exactly one lonely piece remaining. 🤣 I'm actually going to try one of those three cakes tomorrow; there's hardly anything left, especially since guests were greeted with two warm, cheese-filled pastries upon arrival... sort of like mini savory turnovers. There were roughly 150 people in attendance. We didn't bother packing up leftovers for people to take home, though; that isn't really the custom here in the States.
