I’d do it this way—you get an SSD right out of the gate.
Futura.

If you need one, just grab a USB drive. 👍
Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
Because if it isn’t Seasonic or Corsair, it’s basically garbage to them.
It's just like how none of those tech reviewers actually know how to build a budget rig.

Anything that isn't an i5 paired with a GTX 960 or better plus a 700w PSU is just a junk pile.

My setup is running a Phantom Gainward 970 paired with a Soundblaster X-FI for audio.

Is it just me, or is the GPU sagging at the top?

Douglas Fisher78 said:Glad you caught me. I just canceled my order for that one 😁 so now I actually need a CPU cooler rec lol. Don't need fans yet. Is the Cooler Master Liquid CPU Cooler any good, or is there something better for roughly the same price?

For that kind of cash, you won't find anything better.😳

Don't tell me how to do my job.🤣

Between those two, I’d take HPejac any day...

And quit acting like a news reporter. Just do your job, and when you actually need something—we're here. 😬

Same here. Honestly, what would you guys even do without me? You scatter like sheep the second a wolf shows up. ☕

If that's the case, steer clear: micro-ATX boards, old socket 1155 setups, and don't bother with Windows 10.
You need the essentials: a decent quad-core Pentium, a motherboard with minimal bloat, a better GPU (ideally an NVIDIA Quadro), an SSD, a reliable power supply, and a high-quality monitor.

Reading this just gave me cancer.🕺

That card never even had one.🙂

Thomas Flores74 said:How much does a backplate actually matter on a GPU?

Mostly for looks. It’s mainly about structural integrity—sometimes the PCB starts sagging under the weight of the heatsink. You get a tiny bit of extra heat dissipation too, but honestly, that's negligible.
electricharbor30 said:I'm just guessing here, but if it’s like the PC market—which you pointed out perfectly—it's all just rebranding. It's like how one factory might churn out DVD drives for ten different brands using slightly different specs. I know that part for a fact. My theory is that everyone does this with everything. Maybe the massive giants own their own plants, but building a factory from scratch is pricey. It’s way cheaper to hire an existing one to build exactly what you want. Think about how some US tech startups have phones made in China to their specific requirements and then sell them here under their own label. Even companies like Best Buy or Walmart have stuff manufactured overseas and sold under their house brands. Everyone plays the game, so I doubt TEVA is any different. As for that container buyout thing, I haven't a clue...

Assumptions are the mother of all screw-ups.

That's just how it goes.

For sure. If he's paying cash, $167 he keeps more in his pocket. He could probably grab an SSD with that extra change. 😉

i7 920 box, LGA 1366, 2.66 GHz, 8MB cache, 1333 MHz FSB, 64-bit, QuadCore

😁

then just grab whatever GPU you linked 👍 the R9 390 is in that same ballpark and it's a bit punchier...

and if he bumps that CPU up to 3GHz, he's basically set. 👍

My buddy's GPU just bit the dust. He's looking for a replacement since he needs to get back to gaming. 🙄 😁

I told him he should probably check with the pros here. ☕ 😁

He was eyeing this one.

We aren't entirely sure if he needs to swap out his old motherboard and power supply too.

The old board is an MBO GIGABYTE EX58-UD5. Link.

The current PSU is a CORSAIR TX CMPSU-650TTX, ATX 2. Link.

Give me some advice! 😁

No need to swap anything. The board has the slot for the card and the PSU is more than enough. 👍
Just what CPU is he running?
