I'm looking at a PC build around... $2667 I wouldn't be caught dead putting a Corsair VS series PSU in my build.
N/A
Steady rails.
Look at that ripple—or rather, the total lack of it. You honestly won't find many power supplies this clean.
What a steal! $100? That’s absolute madness—pure insanity, I’m telling you!
Solid aesthetics.
Full sleeves on a budget? Now we're talking!
Japanese caps FTW!
The bad.
Loose screws? That's a disaster waiting to happen.
The Mediocre:
The sleeving doesn't even reach the top.
What if that plastic fan deflector just pops off? Total disaster waiting to happen.
That "leaning transistor of doom" thing? Honestly, it’s not even that big of a deal.
Wattage label is hidden. Link? Where? Give me the link!
If you’re looking for a solid PSU under $50, the VS Series PSUs are hands down the best move you can make. No contest. It's an incredible unit—clean design, a quiet 120mm fan, and plenty of ports. Honestly, we went looking for flaws just to be thorough, but we couldn't find a single thing wrong with it. Best buy, period. [Link]
Pretty solid PSU for this category.
Nah, that's a terrible power supply. Especially for a build at this price point where you actually have some decent options to choose from.

Zalman Z3 mid Tower case, $101
ASRock Z170A-X motherboard, LGA 1151: $303
Intel Core i5-6402P processor: 1,$156
Corsair VS Series 550W power supply: $138
Crucial BX200 240GB SSD, SATA3: $180
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD, 3.5", 7200RPM, 32MB Cache, SATA3: $126
Kingston HyperX Savage 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 PC4-17000 2133MHz CL13: $130
LG GH24NS DVD burner, DVD±RW, 24x: $43
Sapphire Nitro R9 390 8GB GDDR5 Tri-X: 2,$300
= $550, AMD
If you'd rather have an Nvidia card like the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 gaming, 4 GB: 2,$310, price is about the same.
This build is junk. You can get way better power supplies and SSDs for this kind of money. And nobody needs a DVD drive anymore.
silentrider14 said:Nice work. Honestly, I tried putting together something similar at Micro Center, but they wouldn't let me get anywhere near that price point—it stayed stuck way above $800.
Regarding those SSDs, I remember reading somewhere that M.2 drives are supposed to be faster, but man... if you're willing to cough up the extra cash for it. Personally, I figured I'd just let one sit on the shelf for now in case I actually need it later.
At Micro Center, the prices in your cart aren't the cash prices; you see the actual totals 😁 once you pick your payment method.
Intel Core i5-6402P.
8GB DDR4 2133MHz HyperX Fury RAM.
SanDisk Ultra SSD 256GB, 2.5” 7mm, SATA 6 Gbit/s, Read/Write: 540 MB/s / 520 MB/s.
Seagate Barracuda 1TB, 64MB, 7200rpm HDWD110UZSVA.
DeathClaw Midi Tower Black case.
EVGA SuperNOVA Power Supply. It gets the job done.
The MSI GeForce GTX 970. It's fine, but don't expect miracles.
That LC Power cooler? It's basically like trying to cool a desert with a handheld fan. Don't bother.
Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P motherboard. Socket 1151, Z170 chipset, DDR4 support, S3, USB 3.0, DVI. Simple as that.

I don't know what you're trying to get at with that link. Just say what you mean.

Help me out so I can finally post some pics and show how I put this thing together. 😁
Go to Home Depot, grab some small hinges, and boom... there you go.
jadebison17 said:Core i7 6700 hits 3.4 GHz plus 4.0 GHz Turbo.
The Core i7 6700K does 4.0 GHz, jumps to 4.20 GHz Turbo, and you get that unlocked multiplier.
If I were building a rig, I’d be pairing an AMD chip with an Intel motherboard.👍
And how does that even matter? It doesn't. In any real-world scenario, you won't notice a difference.
Synthetic benchmarks are a different beast entirely.
Plus, he's looking at an extra $150-$200 depending on the retailer, maybe more. He won't need an aftermarket cooler or an overclocking board either. It's just money piling up for stuff he doesn't actually need.
Why would anyone say the Intel Core i7-6700K is actually "better" than the i7-6700? They’re running at the same clock speed. The only thing the K-series brings to the table is overclocking potential, and if you aren't planning on messing with voltages, that extra cost is just wasted money.
And honestly, looking at how people build these rigs, most of you have no clue what you're doing. You're just throwing random parts together that don't even make sense.

I'd take the AMD option here. More cores matter now since most games are moving past dual-core limits.

Plus, this is a killer deal for the money.😉

$11 max budget $400 I can spend
extra requirements: ideally something with medium to high settings within my budget, needs to last at least 2+ years, minimum 2GB, must have 256-bit bus, and an HDMI port.
What kind of 600W PSU are we talking about?
In that price bracket, you don't have much to work with. It's either a GTX 750 Ti for $333 or an R7 370 which is slightly better. Anything above that, the GTX 950 is the move because it's $467

Nah, don't sweat it. That 285 isn't some power hog, and neither is that APU. 😁
The whole rig might pull 300W max. 😁

If only things worked better between the USA and downtown.

Unbelievable. What a joke. 😁 Happens to the best of us. Building a PC after a long night of drinking is always a disaster. 🤣

Anthony Hayes82 said:He's claiming they're all 80mm. Honestly, I might have to swing by his place once he picks up his parts because he isn't going to know how to put this thing together. My main worry right now is that the CC 120 liquid cooler probably won't fit in that case, so he might end up having to grab the LC 90 instead.
If that massive Arctic Cooling A30 beast fits, then the Corsair H60 will fit just fine.
Anthony Hayes82 said:Then he goes on about having four fans in the front, two in the back, and one on the side, claiming it blows like a hurricane... 🤦
I told him straight up: if budget is the issue, just pick up a Cooler Master z1 at the very least.
If you cut out that metal mesh in the front, maybe a single 120mm will fit
but otherwise, no way. The space out front is designed for 4x60mm fans
I'm just saying, lol
Maybe an 80mm fits in the back, but there's no chance he's packing that many fans.
