AMD build under $750 in Desktops ·
That case belongs in a scrap yard. I have the exact same one, and there’s zero way to cool it down—you can't mount a fan in the back, you can't mount a fan in the front.

It's basically a bucket. You can't get any bigger than that.

You're gonna be struggling just to get anything running on a dual-core Pentium.🤣

It's plenty if you aren't trying to set a world record. Like the other guy mentioned, hitting 4.2-4.3 GHz should be easy enough.

So what? 😁 A 750Ti still holds its own. 😁

Kenneth Hayes60 said:Well, as the title suggests, I am on the hunt for the absolute best value proposition currently available for my budget—I really want to make sure I’m getting the most bang for my buck here! It honestly doesn't matter to me whether I go with an AMD or an Intel build; I am certainly no hardware fanboy, so I don't feel the need to pick a side just for the sake of it. The primary goal is gaming. One specific detail to keep in mind—and please bear with me as I ramble a bit—is that I am planning to repurpose some DDR3 RAM from my old machine, so the motherboard really needs to support that specific standard. Also, if it isn't too much trouble, I would love to find a board that allows for some overclocking—just a little something extra to play with, you know? As for the power supply, I already have a Corsair 500W 80 Plus unit ready to go. Thanks so much for the help! 👍

You can't upgrade a motherboard. You can only swap out the CPU, the GPU, or the RAM. 😁

😬

ovako nesto:
One ASUS Z97-P motherboard. It’s an ATX board running the LGA 1150 socket with DDR3 support. Comes with USB 3.0, SATA III, LAN, and standard DVI/VGA/HDMI outputs. Also has a USB 3.0 header.
Just an Intel Core i5-4690K (3.50GHz, 1MB, 6MB, 88W, 1150) box and some Intel HD Graphics 4600.
One LC POWER LC-CC-120 liquid cooler. Fits both Intel and AMD setups. 120mm with PWM.
Total: $1054

Look, Futura, if you can't pull that off, you might as well just throw the fridge out the window too.
swiftfalcon89 said:How much do you think prices for cards like the R9 380, the 380x, or even a GTX 960 will actually drop once all this new hardware starts flooding the market?

A ton, usually. But here in the States, I wouldn't count on much.

Speaking from experience, the 750 Ti is a beast. I’ve been running mine for months now and it handles everything I throw at it on high settings without breaking a sweat. 😁

The only catch is that the card is way out of your price range. 😳 😛

I'm leaning toward this one👍

The only thing is you could maybe swap in an RTX 3060 for the GPU, but this is 👍

You're acting like an expert when you clearly don't know what you're talking about. Have you actually used any of those CAD programs? Do you know how they handle hardware firsthand? No. So stop rambling.

In 2D and basic 3D, there's zero difference between a standard dual-core CPU and an i5... or even an AMD Athlon X4 or X6.

The gap only matters once you get into heavy 3D modeling. The OP never said that's what they were doing.
Looking for a new case in Desktops ·
Matthew Anderson said:Just checked the numbers because I was getting a bit anxious. Everything's looking slightly higher than it should be, and now everyone is acting like total idiots. How do I fix this?

The top only has holes for two fans. One question: the case front has space for two, but it comes with three by default—two on top and one in the front. If I buy an extra fan, will it be the same setup? I could also add one to the bottom or the side panel.

That’s what happens when you slap a heavy card in there. Back in the day, cases actually came with dedicated support brackets so the thing wouldn't just sag and snap, but nobody bothers with that anymore.

Don't bother explaining. I've been running AutoCAD and CATIA since 2002. I know my way around CAD software, so I know what I'm talking about.
Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
Thomas Howard18 said:Ended up pulling the trigger on a Fortron. The price paired with that 5-year warranty just made sense... Now I'm stuck wondering if I should grab the Hyper 700 or the Hyper 600 w modular one. Any advice? Not really looking at cable aesthetics here.
The 700W version is $186, while the 600W modular is $196, so budget isn't the issue.

Build specs: i5-4590, Z170 motherboard, Intel SSD, Barracuda HDD, 8GB 2800MHz DDR4, Zalman Z3 Plus case, GTX 960

Either PSU has enough juice for this setup. Anyone have a reason to pick one over the other?

Go 600W modular. Honestly, even a 500W modular would be plenty.

Just the GPU. What's your budget?

crimsonstag84, he doesn't need 16GB of RAM. Especially if he isn't doing heavy 3D rendering.

8GB is plenty for AutoCAD.

I've been using AutoCAD for over 10 years, and it runs smooth as silk even on basic integrated graphics with just 2GB of RAM—handling 2D work, even massive blueprints, and the occasional 3D task.

CATIA ran perfectly fine for me on 2GB of RAM.👍

It won't cost much more, and you can fit a better cooler in there too. To me, that's the smarter play if you ever decide to try overclocking 😁 so you aren't stuck shelling out extra cash later on.
