Look, kid, you might be a mod, but😬
you should know better than to drop links like that in public.😁

They aren't from an official Microsoft site.😁

Take a ban already.😉 🍿

Sell your laptop first, then show up to build a PC 🙂
Not like this.

Just so there’s no "I didn't know" excuses later. 😁

Or just try flashing the BIOS to a newer version. Might wipe the password out.

The first link worked for me. 👍

Toshiba Satellite L500-1R1

The laptop runs fine, hardware seems okay.

The issue is I'm locked out of the BIOS.

Any way to bypass this password? (Keep in mind you can't just pop the battery out here—it's soldered directly to the board, and I don't know how to solder, nor do I want to.)

I saw some videos on YouTube where people jump two pins on the motherboard under the frame with a wire or a flathead screwdriver, but I don't see anything like that on this unit.

(I already tore the whole thing apart thinking I could get to the battery, but since that's a dead end, I'm not touching it again)😁

If anyone knows a fix, let me know.🙂

if you go the INTEL route

honestly, wherever you buy it—Best Buy, Home Depot, Newegg, or any other online shop—it doesn't matter for service. You'll be waiting just as long whether you take it to a local shop in your town or ship it to a service center in a big city like Chicago.

just save the cash upfront and buy a decent machine instead.🙂 Best Buy is overpriced, and Home Depot is a joke; I wouldn't even buy a blank DVD from them.

shipping costs for a full PC repair will be $13, so I don't see why that would be an issue.🙂

Rachel Jones8 said:I'm not totally sure what you mean 😁 , but yeah... you built my rig for me and I don't have a dedicated GPU, just this ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming+

Which software? I know there isn't a single answer to a dumb question like this... I'm just asking generally, what kind of software can actually mess things up.
Something new I added (as you know 😉 ) is a USB network adapter, could that be causing these issues?

Any driver can cause problems, any poorly installed program, or even the OS itself if its files got corrupted.
I can't just pull an answer out of thin air. I'm not a psychic.😁

Rachel Jones8 said:Sorry, I don't really speak tech... (I'm a total newbie).
If it was "some time ago"? Obviously some time passed, they weren't installed today, so I'm not sure what you mean.
Recently I reinstalled macOS on my home computer—time flies, maybe a month ago...—and put in an SSD (officially).
Before all that, things were mostly fine, though I think I saw a macOS Kernel Panic a few times back then too, but this black screen and the power icons toggling on and off is a new one.
I added those new gadgets during that period, maybe I messed something up along the way... I have no clue.

Your graphics card isn't going to delaminate. If I remember right, you're running an APU (CPU and graphics are one unit), so there's no such thing as delamination there.

Most likely macOS wasn't installed correctly, or something just glitched out after you started installing software following the install.

Rachel Jones8 said:Honestly, this is starting to freak me out... it's happened three times already.
It doesn't just fix itself either. After a while, I can get Thunder to open, but Firefox stays dead. And when I do get Thunder running, my mouse clicks don't even work—I can't minimize anything or close the window. If I click on Firefox, all my desktop widgets (calendar, clock...) just vanish, then they pop back when I click again, but the browser still won't launch.
A full reboot is the only way to fix it.
It’s happening too often now and I'm worried... what's the deal?
Is it my hardware, or is it Windows acting up?

I doubt it's a hardware issue. Sounds more like Windows is glitching out and fighting itself.
David Rodriguez94 said:Alright, I'm heading out to pick up the rig next week—can't make it any sooner—so if I find a spare moment, I'll snap a few photos for you all😁

Thanks again to everyone—you've been a massive help👍 🙏

As long as it runs smooth and handles Electronic Arts titles without any issues, I'm happy. 👍
David Rodriguez94 said:Managed to find a moment today to swing by Newegg—well, virtually speaking—to dictate my list and get everything paid for. Now it’s just the long, agonizing wait for the delivery truck to arrive. Honestly, the service there is surprisingly decent; they actually try to be helpful...

Could you clarify something for me? I noticed this here;

They have these cable extensions listed—I'm thinking about grabbing a few just to clean up the mess inside the case, because god knows my current cable management looks like a bird's nest. My question is: are these strictly extensions, or can they plug directly into a modular power supply?

Do it if you want. Personally, I don't think you'll need to. The guys at Newegg are usually solid with cable management.

Nathan Castillo16 said:Look, you clearly missed my point. I never said Nvidia wasn't working. I said the laptop isn't actually using it. Both the Intel and Nvidia drivers are installed—I checked twice. They both show up in Device Manager, but the laptop stays stuck on Intel instead of switching to Nvidia. It’s pretty obvious what fadedorca66 was getting at: the laptop uses Intel for basic stuff and kicks in the Nvidia for the heavy lifting.

That's how it's supposed to work in theory. The driver handles the switch based on how hard the system is working.

Can I run Dota 2 on an Intel Core i3-2100, 4GB of DDR3, and Intel HD Graphics?

Specifically at 720p.

Maybe on low settings.

Timothy Kim60 said:It’s not "old news" when it just dropped three days ago. 😬

Before, the rumor was just a partial rebrand—like saying the R9 380/380X would become the R9 290/290X, while the R9 370 stays an R9 285.

In the tech world, three days is an eternity.😁
David Rodriguez94 said:Alright, thanks everyone once again—it seems all roads eventually lead back to Robert Rodriguez2's specific setup, so that's the one I'm pulling the trigger on. 😉 Thanks again.

Let us know how it runs once the rig arrives.👍

Old news... just like you mentioned in the post below, AMD never even brought up rebranding a new series. It was a fair guess to assume they’d build something fresh from scratch.

Given how much NVIDIA messed up with those 970s... it makes sense. If AMD actually pulls it off with this new lineup, NVIDIA is going to take a massive hit in sales.

I’m looking for some help putting together a PC build—primarily for Electronic Arts titles, specifically Grand Theft Auto V, but I also need it to handle web browsing, Photoshop, and some Adobe video editing software...

It's been ages since I actually owned a desktop—I've been dragging myself along with an old laptop that's basically on its deathbed—so I'd appreciate a component list. I already have a monitor (FullHD), plus my keyboard and mouse, so I just need the tower itself. My absolute limit is $2333, though I'm hoping you can squeeze every last drop of performance out of that budget 🙂 for me
. Since I'll be paying cash and I'm based in Washington, D.C., I'm hoping we can find something local...
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the intrusion...

What’s your budget for a new card?

The way you're describing those pixels makes me think your current GPU is basically on life support.

So, you've got 4 gigs of VRAM...

What kind of power supply are we talking about (brand and wattage)?
If you don't know off the top of your head, just pop the case open and check the sticker.

It won't fit. Plus, you'll blow the budget by $33, and the 280x isn't even that much better than what was picked. Not worth the extra $133 difference
