Best speakers under $75 (ideally Bose, 60W+) in Computer Peripherals ·
Hold on a second... you're talking about this model, while I'm referring to this one 😬

"SW-HF2.1 1800K V2" isn't the same thing as "SW-2.1 1800," but apparently, that doesn't matter to these big-box retailers 🍿

EDIT: also, why does your link just dump me onto the main page of the manufacturer?

EDIT:
Check out this review. It’s by a Czech/Pole/Slovak guy so I can barely follow him, but watch at 3:26 where he's holding the volume controller. Looks like there's a jack for both headphones and a mic—I had something pretty much identical with my old Logitech speakers.

Yeah, obviously the SP-HF1800A has a headphone jack. I just wasn't sure which 2.1 1800 darkowl72 was talking about in his last sentence...

If I go with a 2.0 setup, the SP-HF1800A is definitely the move. 👍

EDIT: For the SW-HF2.1 1800, the description says "master Volume and Bass control Lin in and" plus a headphone jack on the wired control pod.

darkowl72 said:It’s a bummer that the 2.1 1800 setup doesn't have a headphone jack, because that power distribution is actually pretty solid.

Hold up, you mean this n/a? Because according to the specs, this one actually does have a headphone jack 🤷

Or would I actually be pretty happy with just the Logitech Z120? 😬

EDIT: Can't go with those last ones since I really need a headphone jack😢.

darkowl72, what's the move between GENIUS SW-G2.1 2000, 2.1, GENIUS SW-G2.1 1250, 2.1 or maybe just a 2.0 Logitech Z313 setup? I mostly need them for PC gaming since my old 😬Trust speakers finally kicked the bucket after 8 years. Honestly, I can't decide if 2.0 or 2.1 is better... all I know is I don't want to blow more than $183, though I'd prefer to spend as little as possible 😬. Not an audiophile and I rarely listen to music on my computer anyway...

Honestly, you could probably ask for more than 270 bucks for a 270X that still has about 2 years of warranty left...
New build or upgrade my current rig? in Desktops ·
Honestly, he should just grab a GTX 970 and call it a day. He'll be totally fine running The Witcher 3 and those other "low-spec" titles (😬). As for an SSD, if he really feels the need, he can pick one up after he offloads his old GTX 560... or just stick with a basic 120GB model 🍿
PC Upgrade Ideas in Hardware ·
Look, if you want a high-end CPU, a solid fan, and a decent GPU, you’re looking at $450+ just for the power supply. Now the real question is, does that initial $3k–$4k estimate include what you'd get from selling off your old CPU and GPU?

Just give me a final budget for what you actually plan to spend...
PC Upgrade Ideas in Hardware ·
It really depends on whether you're just gaming or using it for work too... if it's strictly a gaming rig, then grabbing a new GPU (like a GTX 970 or an R9 390) along with an Intel Core i7-4770K and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler (assuming you've got a Gigabyte motherboard) should run you about $1333 if you're looking to blow through your whole budget ...☕

EDIT: honestly, considering what you're running for a power supply, you're better off going with the GTX 970..

1. Which version has the best cooling, assuming I can find one for under $1000?

From what I've gathered, everyone keeps raving about that ASUS ROG equivalent as a solid pick ($996 @adm.us).

2. Is there actually any difference between the VGA and PCI-E 3.0 versions of the exact same card model?

$1029 one of the few that actually features active VRM cooling...

Timothy Kim60 said:analogtiger19, that Intel HD Graphics isn't actually that powerful; those TechPowerUp benchmarks are just an optical illusion. They tested the dedicated GPUs on an Athlon using a low resolution just to max out the CPU, and in a CPU-heavy game like that, the dedicated card can't even keep up. There's also a chance they just messed something up. Look here—in GTA V, the weaker card actually beats the GTX 750 when tested on the same processor. No integrated GPU is ever going to come close to an HD 7770 or a 250X.

In other games, it's 30-60% faster than a GTX 750 ddr3, which just shows how much of an outlier the GTA V scenario is.

Could be... there's always a chance someone screwed up on either side. Who knows what scenes they used for testing, or if the memory was overclocked or not...

Fine, maybe saying "in the same range" makes it sound like I'm claiming they're neck-and-neck in performance, and that's on me (damn, I should've picked a better phrase... I meant "roughly in the same ballpark," not "living next door to each other" 😵). Thinking about it now, it would've been more accurate to say it's in the range of a GTX 750 Ti, which is basically what I was getting at anyway 😬

My bad 🕺

P. S. I still stand by the fact that the Intel HD Graphics isn't a total weakling.😬

Of course it’s a bad deal... I was just trying to point out that the Iris Pro 6200 isn't exactly some weak-ass integrated chip to begin with.😬
Budget gaming PC build: $500-$600 range in Desktops ·
The HD 530 from Skylake isn't it, but the Iris Pro 6200 from Broadwell sits right around the R7 250 x level—maybe a bit weaker... basically somewhere between the 250 and the 250x.

As far as I know, you aren't going to find any Celeron or Pentium chips running that Iris Pro 6200; it’s really just an i5 or i7 thing.😬

Checking Best Buy today, and since it's Black Friday, they’ve actually got some components priced lower than what you'd find at other retailers...

No matter what you're using it for, once you kill the monitor, you're left staring at $0.67 (or just a wall of pink), and there's not much point in overanalyzing that... maybe it'd be more useful to know if they're paying with cash or a credit card (since that just shrinks the total even further 😬)

Since the OP already laid out exactly what they're buying and the price tag attached to it, I don't even care about the reasoning behind the upgrade. It’s a bad deal regardless; you can't beat that price point anyway. ☕

Sarah Barnes86 said:Hey everyone!
I need some help picking out RAM and a PSU for this build:

Case - NZXT Source 340, Mid Tower
Motherboard - MSI 990FXA GAMING
CPU - Intel Core i7-3770K, 4.40GHz, Black Edition
CPU Cooler - COOLERMASTER V8GTS
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970, 2GB
HDD - TOSHIBA 1TB
SSD - OCZ Vertex3, 2.5" 120GB
DVD ROM - ASUS DRW-24F1MT
4 fans in the case

Now for the RAM. First off, should I go with CL11, CL10, or CL9? Second, regarding memory speed—do I specifically need 1866MHz to match the processor? If so, I was looking at:
HyperX 8GB Savage DDR3 1866MHz CL KIT, but I'm not sure which CL? Is that the best bet $150 for this setup?

And the PSU. Looking at something up to $233. Intel recommends a 1000W power supply because the 9370 pulls power like two standard CPUs combined. For the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970, they suggest 550W. So, would a 700W unit be enough?

I already have some parts, but I'll probably order the rest online or pick them up at Best Buy/Micro Center.

Thanks in advance!

Mind if I ask what you're actually planning to do with a rig that uses that specific CPU? 🍿

As for the RAM, there's hardly ever a case where an average user will notice the difference between CL9, 10, or 11. Frequency only really matters when you're running integrated graphics...
