Ordering medication from overseas in Health ·
Has anyone here actually tried ordering Melatonin from the States?

Melatonin is such a weird one because, at the end of the day, it’s a hormone... and how it's handled varies so much depending on where you are, like in some places it's just an over-the-counter supplement while in others you strictly need a prescription.

Here in the US, you can grab it easily both with or without a script, but you never see anything higher than a 3mg dose on the shelves.
I've been thinking about just ordering a 10mg dose from the States, but I'm honestly stuck wondering if it would get flagged as a "medication" during shipping or if it would just sail through as a simple "dietary supplement"... assuming it's labeled that way under US regulations...

I mean, which agency could I even reach out to for some actual guidance on this?

Oh, right... forgot to mention—that SCART-to-VGA cable is a total bust. 😢

I’d pretty much given up on all this tinkering for a bit... but now that I’m bored again, my brain is starting to cycle through all these different ideas... 😁

I stumbled upon this random converter on eBay that turns a video signal into VGA. The catch is it doesn't take SCART, it only takes S-video or that standard yellow RCA composite plug.

So, here's the thing... I already have an adapter like this that goes from SCART to composite:

And I'm just wondering if that might actually work?

Like, if I plug the SCART-to-composite adapter in, then run the yellow video cable out of it and into this eBay converter....

Then just run the audio straight from the adapter into some speakers sitting nearby....

Hmm.... are SCART and composite signals basically the same thing?

Whoa, those are some pretty interesting links!

I'm honestly just a little nervous about dropping that kind of cash online without being 100% certain the gear actually works, especially since I know I'll probably get hit with extra sales tax and import fees once it arrives, and even shopping at a local Best Buy feels risky because nobody here seems to really care about easy returns or customer service... hmm... hmm... let me think on this a bit more...

Honestly, this whole DIY setup thing is way out of my league 😛

But where on earth am I supposed to find these converters? I've been hunting for days... the only thing I even stumbled upon was this one on the Chipotle website, looks like it's around 60 bucks, but it says it's out of stock... 😢

👎 absolute failure. nothing works, just a black screen.

I probably need some kind of signal converter somewhere in the middle... but does anyone actually have one of those lying around??? All I can find online is the exact opposite setup—you know, where you're sending the signal from a PC to a TV via Scart, which is everywhere. But trying to go from a receiver with a Scart output straight to a monitor (not a graphics card) is nowhere to be found...

So is this thing just impossible then? 😢

Aha 😁
well, it’s kind of a mess, but basically... it goes like this:

Scart output -> Scart splitter

scart 1 = video signal for the monitor
scart 2 gets a Scart-to-RCA adapter, and then you just run a RCA-to-3.5mm jack cable from there - and plug that straight into some computer speakers. I actually gave that a shot myself and it works... 😁

I did a little more digging too, and I think I saw somewhere that if the screen supports a 50Hz input, it should technically work?

I'm gonna head out and grab that cable sometime this week and see how it goes...

So I've got this old LCD monitor just sitting around collecting dust...

I also have a Netscape digital cable box (this thing). I'm really trying to finally get rid of that bulky old CRT television in my living room, so I was wondering if there's any way to repurpose this old monitor as a TV instead...

The Netscape receiver only has a SCART port and an antenna jack, but the monitor is strictly VGA input.

What I'm stuck on is whether I actually need some kind of dedicated signal converter to bridge the two—I've been scouring the web but nothing's popping up—or if a simple SCART to VGA adapter would actually do the trick...

Anyone here ever messed around with something like this before?
Western Union in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
A buddy of mine over in the Netherlands sent me 70 bucks via Western Union. So I head down to the local post office today, and this lady tells me straight up she can't release any of the cash without my Social Security number. Is this some kind of new thing they're doing now???

What's the deal with that, does it mean I actually have to report those 70 bucks on my tax return????

I remember seeing them at a few different Kmart locations back in the day, and they usually come in a couple of colors.

Does anyone know where to find this kind of fan adapter? I need one that isn't USB—something I can just plug straight into a standard wall outlet.

Oh yeah, at the mall? That didn't even cross my mind! Thanks! 😁
Anyone know where I can pick up some basic plastic hangers around town... maybe somewhere like a Target or a Walmart...

Ok... I gotta admit, I just sat through the whole album and... man. She sounds like a COMPLETELY normal singer. Just non-stop. I was really hoping she’d mix things up, you know? Like, some tracks being one way and others being totally different... but everything is just the same. And... after maybe thirty minutes, I just kind of checked out... 😢 It feels like she lost something in the process. A bit of that edge. Even though her voice is gorgeous... this new, "standard" technique just feels kinda soulless to me...

I can't help but wonder what pushed her toward this direction... 😢

Hey guys, the new album leaked! But I can't say where, you know how it is... 😁

I'm listening to it right now, and man, it is pure genius. It’s so unexpected, jumping through all these different styles, and her voice just hits different this time. She isn't playing games anymore 😉 she's completely polished her sound. I gotta admit, I kind of miss that old freakiness she used to have, but honestly, this is beautiful too...

Come on, don't be dramatic...

Look, if you really think we need to go down that rabbit hole, then go ahead and start a whole separate thread debating whether objective musical quality even exists, but this specific thread is just meant to be about Joanna Newsom. 😉

driftingeagle27 said:I don't think classical music is out of place here, since this whole subforum is called Music and that covers everything, but honestly, pop music—in the broadest sense possible—has always been the main thing here. I doubt anyone thinks classical fans aren't welcome, but let's be real, how many people are actually going to find someone to talk to about harps, lyres, or harpsichords—aside from maybe an album by Joanna Newsom—before they just run out of things to say... 🙂.

I wouldn't say I'm strictly stuck in one genre box or anything, but guitar-driven stuff usually hits the spot for me. It’s not some judgment on classical music, and I'm not trying to be a jerk and look down on it or whatever. It's just that I've figured out what works for me, and right now I don't really feel this massive urge to go deep into classical, jazz, or folk music...

My bad, I totally misread you. Sorry! 🙂

driftingeagle27 said:Of course it doesn't have to be pop or rock to be good; not even close. I was basically separating two different things in my first post: the personal side, which is just what resonates with me, and the general side, which is pure quality. I was just saying that something can be objectively great and still not be something I want to listen to for my own soul, because that's just how I am...

driftingeagle27 said:Fair enough, but the thing is, I don't want to walk around thinking something is trash when it's actually incredible... 🙂

Ahhh, objective quality! That's what's eating at you!
But man, that is such a hard thing to pin down. Like, what are the actual criteria for calling something "objectively" good music? Who gets to be the authority there? Music theorists? Critics? The industry? The market? Honestly, I think it's such a minefield that it's probably better not to even step foot in that territory...
