Trip Report: Canada (Montreal) - June 8, 2008 in Formula 1 ·
The strategy at Ferrari seems even more baffling than usual; I mean, what kind of rookie move was it for Massa to pit two laps in a row?🤷 It does seem, though, that the Italian crew is finally starting to take control of the team's direction—one stop for tires followed immediately by another for fuel adjustments.🙏🙏🙏They really ought to lean into those tactical calls more often, especially when you consider how Hamilton-esque his driving through the pits has been lately.😬 And honestly, I think Robert Kubica is clearly the true Champion here.🙏🙏🙏

I’ve actually been looking over a full replay of the race, and from what I can see, Lewis Hamilton was clearly trying to dodge Robert Kubica. Honestly, if Kimi Räikkönen hadn't even been in that position, none of this would have happened. In my opinion, while Hamilton is definitely at fault here, I think Kimi deserves a penalty too. It just doesn't seem right because Kubica was positioned ahead of Kimi and had come to a perfectly normal stop, yet Kimi was racing him side-by-side. Even if Hamilton hadn't clipped him, Kimi likely would have crossed that white line anyway, which probably would have earned him a penalty since he had already moved past it right before the impact occurred.☕

I have to admit, I find it incredibly strange how Kimi Räikkönen and Robert Kubica were positioned right next to each other during that start. Honestly, given how things went when the green light flashed and they pulled out of the pits, I suspect those two might have just collided head-on if Hamilton hadn't avoided hitting Kimi; it feels like they probably would have ended up wrecking each other🤷 It seems quite odd to me, the way they were lined up before the lights went out—I wonder if that’s even allowed under the regulations😕

Furthermore, the way BMW handled things in the pits makes a lot of sense to me; having Nick Heidfeld let Fernando Alonso past was likely necessary since holding him up would have cost too much time. If you look at the flow, Sebastian Vettel was steadily closing in on Rubens Barrichello, and he almost certainly would have overtaken him if he hadn't spent those last ten laps defending against Heikki Kovalainen. If he had been able to clear Kovalainen without any trouble, both of them likely would have cruised past Rubens. Or, if Kovalainen had just eased off a bit to give Vettel some breathing room, they both could have jumped Rubens instantly to take 7th and 8th, which would have set up a real battle between Vettel and the others☕

To start off, just like I mentioned before:

some more points for Sebastian Vettel🙏🙏🙏🙏

I'm leaning toward thinking Max is the one to blame for the collision; if Lewis Hamilton hadn't been stuck in the pit lane, maybe Max wouldn't have charged forward so recklessly and slammed right into Kimi Räikkönen, so in my view, it's on Max.👎

As for the idea that Nick Heidfeld is superior to Sebastian Vettel, I honestly feel that's a bit nonsensical. While it might seem that way since Nick Heidfeld is currently driving for Red Bull Racing and Lewis Hamilton is in those Force India cars, they might be lucky to scrape together a single point by the end of the season. If Adrian Sutil and Sebastian Vettel were driving for Ferrari or McLaren instead, they’d likely be fighting for the championship title, because I guess you can only pull points out of a car like that if you possess truly elite talent.🙏

Well, I suppose you just click on it and then watch it right in MediaPlayer.🙄

I suppose Sebastian Vettel managed to pull off a win right from the pits, mostly because everyone else seemed to collectively lose their minds and crash out during that first turn, leaving him as the lone survivor on the track.😁

A speed of 500 kb/s would roughly equate to about 30 MB per minute, I suppose.😱

But then you have to consider that the image is in a 16:9 aspect ratio, and it's actually quite high quality with a diagonal size of roughly 8 inches.👍

There are quite a few different channels listed here, but I suspect the very best one might actually be the one located all the way down at the bottom of the list.👍

I think there was actually a link over on Myp2p that pointed directly to the live stream for the Formula 1 coverage on PBS.
I suppose you could try to imagine how it actually functioned back then, though it’s probably a bit difficult to wrap your head around. 🤣

It seems to be working just fine, though I suppose it’s a bit of a shame it isn't our usual PBS.🤣🤣 I mean, it’s probably some kind of Chinese or Japanese software or something like that, but I guess it gets the job done.👍In my opinion, you really can't beat that one streaming through MediaPlayer 500, though I suppose the downside is that it absolutely devours your data usage. 😬

I imagine you’ll be able to catch the broadcast there quite easily; you just check out the site on the day of the event and you should be all set. I’d suggest installing YouTube beforehand since there's a direct link provided right on the page. If you use that, the stream should work perfectly, and I think the picture quality is actually pretty solid too.👍

darkmarlin16 said:I suppose Heikki might just give everyone a run for their money if they actually put him in a decent car, though maybe he'll end up at Ferrari like Raikkonen and become Fernando's teammate.

I don't see that happening, honestly; I think Sebastian Vettel is headed to Ferrari, where he'll likely be the No. 2 driver while Felipe Massa takes the top spot.😉well, Alonso could always jump over to Force India to work with that old expert, physics.☕

As for the race itself, I'm kind of expecting total dominance from Ferrari and BMW, with McLaren probably trailing a bit behind. The only real bummer is that we won't even get to watch it live; there aren't any broadcasts for the qualifying or the race, just some random replays popping up after midnight somewhere.😠Personally, I'm almost relieved we aren't stuck with that annoying split broadcast, and since the Euro and our guys are obviously the priority, it's fine, but it really would have been nice if Formula were on the main network or if the replay was at a reasonable hour—say, 2:00 PM the next day instead of being pushed so incredibly late.🙄

Honestly, I think it’s all just a bit ridiculous; at this rate, they might as well declare the driver's helmet an aerodynamic component, and then we'll have drivers needing to bolt their heads directly to the chassis just to ensure nothing shifts even a single millimeter.☕
I'm not entirely sure if that would even fall under that specific category🤷, though I suppose it's hard to say for certain, but it isn't really a wing that's self-adjusting or something that offers any real opportunity for active tuning, so in the end, everything on the car vibrates and likely shifts by a few microns anyway☕which means, I guess, that everything technically deserves a penalty if you look at it that way.🙄

hollowhawk412 said:Why all the agitation...

I’ve spent quite a bit of time browsing through various international sites and reading through endless threads,
scouring through all sorts of different opinions, and I haven't seen anyone mention even the slightest detail regarding the movement of that flap, so I’d gently ask if you could perhaps provide a bit more evidence...

I’m curious, what exactly did Pilla spot that everyone else seems to have missed???

Where are the onboard clips... where are the discussions???

Back when the whole debate about the flexibility of the McLaren front wing started, I remember seeing a mountain of threads and even more onboard
footage...

but I don't see anything like that here...

If you can show us, we'll take a look and then we can discuss it...

As for the teams raising warnings, those things are usually prompted by other teams, and I find it hard to believe they would ever miss an opportunity
to tip off the FIA...

By the way, it looks like Williams might be testing something similar too.

Well, hollowhawk412, it seems to me like that rear section is vibrating, or rather, oscillating left and right; now, I honestly don't see any particular reason why someone would be penalized for that, though I think I might have noticed something similar on Alonso's car🤷, so I suspect Pilla likely saw the exact same thing.🤷

I happened to come across this on a forum recently, though I noticed nobody 🤷 seems to be talking about it. I was just wondering if anyone might have some insight into why they decided to present the spoilers for Kimi Räikkönen and Mass differently for the Vanuatu Spain Grand Prix? 😕

rustystag7 said:I tend to agree; I suspect Fernando Alonso might see a bit of a resurgence and perhaps even contend for some race wins, given how promising they look out on the track🙏...

I’m honestly not quite sure why everyone is speculating so much about Alonso making a big move🤷

In my own estimation, there's probably a 95% chance he stays put with Renault, leaving just a tiny 5% sliver of hope that he might head elsewhere🤷

I feel like he’s very aware of his current standing and likely wants to build something meaningful at Renault; if his only goal was to jump straight into a championship-winning car, I suppose he would have made that move already this season🤷

Honestly, I think most of those theories are a bit far-fetched. I mean, where could he actually go? There's really no way he'd allow himself to be stuck in a position where he isn't the lead driver again, let alone knowing ahead of time that he'd be relegated to number two🙄He’s probably not quite that foolish, which suggests there's no shot at him joining Ferrari as long as Kimi is there, nor McLaren while Lewis Hamilton is leading the charge—and even if he were to join Denis, that still wouldn't really be a viable option😬. Furthermore, looking at what’s left of the teams that used to give them real trouble, like BMW, it seems unlikely; even someone like Robert Kubica or Nick Heidfeld probably wouldn't be willing to just play second fiddle😉. Aside from Renault, the only somewhat realistic paths would be Toyota or Honda, but that’s only if they manage to make a massive leap forward compared to Renault, which doesn't seem particularly likely. So, in all likelihood, he'll probably stay with Renault until he retires☕

Daniel Cooper40 said:I’ve always been a huge supporter of Rubens Barrichell, but honestly, watching what he's dealing with this season is just incredibly frustrating. 😬 It feels like the guy can't even make it through his pit exit without something going sideways...

I have a feeling that as he was pulling out of the pits, someone from either Superagur or Force India clipped him. It was such a brief moment on the broadcast, but it looked like a car shot out of the pit lane and caught him right there, and after that, everything just fell apart according to the replays.🤷
