Is there some kind of food fascism happening on this forum?
I mean, it’s not like it isn't happening...
It’s just that sometimes people have a point, and sometimes they don't.

Look, sliders are great when they actually taste good, which—let's be real—is a rare occurrence.
As for breakfast burritos—man, just cuff me and let me listen to Strauss in peace, but I have to say it: most of them are straight-up garbage.
But whatever you do, don't you dare touch the marzipan.
anch_io said:Yeah, and I'll say it again—your take is just totally off. Must be a generational gap thing or whatever...

Back when we were all in our early twenties—so, like, fifteen years ago—there were a handful of us who were total music fanatics, even little fascists about it, taking everything way more seriously than guys like Ar Pecka, Ribafish, or myself. Fast forward fifteen years, and most of those people have turned into decent, corporate professionals who wouldn't know M. Ward, Sufjan Stevens, or Devendra Bahaud if they hit them in the face. Unlike the group I just mentioned.

I’m not saying the exact same thing will happen to your generation (even though I know it will, because it's inevitable), but I'd bet anything that at least half of the people active on this forum right now won't even remember this stuff in five years... and honestly, they probably won't be listening to much music at all. Not even subconsciously.

Ntx was actually spot on here—I'd be surprised if it happened to you personally, but I'm sure it happens to plenty of others. There's this small clique of idiots like us who take music way too seriously, and then there's the massive crowd of random passersby... That's just how it goes...

Daniel Bailey7 said:Hmm, I don't know... you sure you didn't just totally misread the situation? 😕

I was honestly just sitting here wondering who would be the first one to jump on this... 😁
Look, whether I'm right or wrong about this, that's just my take. And honestly? It’s not just me feeling this way either. I'm not saying it happens every single time or that it applies to every person out there, but I've definitely noticed these patterns popping up more often than I'd like...

Alright, let me jump on the women's side of things for a second—I’ve only ever seen that kind of drastic music taste shifting in teenagers. Once you hit your 20s, I feel like we all have pretty much set personalities by then. You don't just flip your entire identity—even for something as trivial as what's playing in your headphones—just to play nice with someone you're dating. Besides, if I'm being honest, some of my favorite bands actually came from my girlfriends introducing them to me in the first place. If a relationship is actually healthy, it should be about that kind of interaction, not just performing... 🙂

Look, let me chime in here from a slightly more seasoned perspective... I’ve seen this exact same behavior from women who are way past their teenage years, and honestly, it happens more often than you'd think. And I’m not talking about that healthy, normal kind of thing where you discover a cool new band because your partner introduced you to them. No, I mean when someone completely guts their entire musical identity just to match someone else. It's a total overhaul...

Well, I wasn't even in Kset... 😬
I’m actually digging what Robin Williams6 suggested about using two consoles, though I was thinking we might need to set up some kind of makeshift wrestling ring in the mud right on the stage...
Laura Long5 said:Look, I gotta say, I respect the musical taste of stormyviper11 and Daniel Bailey7... even if it is absolutely trash... 🙂

Yeah, I guess that’s basically what it boils down to—respecting someone else's taste in music. Honestly, I don't even feel like throwing a compliment back at you. I'll just point out that there are plenty of people on here whose musical tastes are lightyears away from mine, but I still respect them. Two prime examples would be Massimo, since I can't stand funk and jazz makes me break out in hives, and Jason Chavez32, because if he posted 80% of the stuff he puts on NP, I’d probably hate every second of hearing it... What I really can't stand, though, are the posers. You know the type—people who absolutely die of envy because someone else picked up a new album or discovered a cool band before they did. They immediately rush to download everything just to dump it on NP, all so they can pretend they were "in the know" all along...

I honestly have zero respect for people who don't let music actually mean something to them. You know the type—they just cycle through whatever's sitting at the top of the Billboard charts or stick strictly to the classic hits everyone already knows. It’s like they’re letting some algorithm or a radio DJ dictate their entire personality instead of actually feeling the sound... And don't even get me started on girls who swap out their entire playlist every single time they switch boyfriends. Like, one day you're into indie rock, the next you're suddenly obsessed with whatever the new guy is blasting in his Jeep. It's exhausting to watch. Sorry if that sounds a bit chauvinistic, I guess, but honestly, it's a trait I've only ever really noticed coming from guys...

Look, I don't try to force my music taste on people—well, at least not all the time. If I'm hanging out with a group and they start playing Massimo or Bruce Springsteen, I'll just vent about it here on the forum later, but I'll let my coworker play their stuff. Same deal at work; I'm not gonna blast Zoviet Franc or Thermalse while I'm on the clock because I know it’d probably drive my colleagues nuts... I'll just stick to something a bit more "palatable," like Calexico.

My top ten imaginary tracks all about Shane:

1. Clint Eastwood - stop that Shane 2. CCR - Who'll stop The Shane
2. CCR - Who'll stop The Shane?
3. CCR - Have you ever seen the Shane?
4. Jimi Hendrix - Hear my Shane a'comin'
5. Eurythmics - here comes The Shane again
6. talk talk - Such a Shane
7. pink Floyd - Shane on you crazy diamond
8. Fats domina - Ain't that a Shane
9. house of Love - Shane on 10.
10. Guns'n'Roses - November Shane

Honestly, even Chuck Norris looks like a total wimp compared to Shane...
Oh, hell yeah.

Yeah, I'm a total loser... 😢

Man, this is just depressing news for all the mods out there. An absolute legend of the industry is gone🙏 , the guy who basically owned Las Vegas and San Remo.
What’s even more pathetic is thinking some tribute act is probably gonna belt out "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart" like Marc Almond (assuming he hasn't kicked the bucket too):

Thanks a lot, I guess I'm not the only one constantly embarrassing myself by butchering that song title. 😬
Personally, I've always thought Cave's version hits way harder than that Pitney-Almond one...

So I spent a little time digging through the guy's bio. Unbelievable—he even dated Marianne Faithfull. Is there anyone over 60 in Hollywood who hasn't dated her at this point? 😲 Seriously, worst last name ever. 🙏

Man, you really had to be there... 😁 One dude absolutely loved that record, while me and another guy couldn't stand it. When The Rolling Stones dropped a later album, it got one of the most brutal, cynical reviews ever published in The New York Post, I think. So, that other guy and I just cut the review out and taped it right onto the album cover—not that it made any difference, since it wasn't even about this one—and we even drew these ridiculous, angry faces on it...

But honestly, I gotta admit, I’ve developed this weird sentimental soft spot for the album over the years, even though it’s objectively terrible... 😁
If nothing else, it's because of "Bubbles," where after some pretty pathetic English lyrics, Tony just starts belting it out in his local accent:
Well, look here, Bubbles,
I'm a real cool guy,
I'm not an Englishman or The Frenchman
But I'm still a rebel!

🙂

Just heard on the radio that gen Pitney passed away. 😢

Honestly, back in '65, I don't think I would've fit into any of those subcultures defined by what people wore. 🙂
I mean, the Mods were cool enough with their killer music and sharp scooters, but all that other stuff they obsessed over? Just idiotic to me.
And the Teddy Boys didn't even have scooters to ride...
If it were '65, I probably would've been a blues head, hanging out at John Mayall or Corner gigs with the same crowd that eventually formed Jethro Tull, Fleetwood Mac, Chicken Shack, and Savoy Brown... 😍
Man, now I've suddenly got this massive urge to sit down and blast every single album from those bands released up until about 1970. Just masterpiece after masterpiece. In my head, I can hear "Beggar's Banquet," "Train to Nowhere," "Shapes of Things," and "Green Manalishi" all playing at once... 🙂
