So, let it slide...👍 😁

Anyway, there’s more where that came from... I’ve actually got a piece in the new Autopartner about how John Surtees pulled off that controversial championship win forty years ago. There'll be stuff on Gilles soon too, hopefully, because I’m trying to push a story about Pironi in one of the upcoming issues, and you can't really tell that story without mentioning Gilles...

The article on Gilles is alright, I guess, but Devcic totally botched the Maserati history here. For him, it’s super out of character because he usually writes pretty solid stuff, but this is just a mess of inaccuracies and nonsense...

Ford said:Mario Andretti is a total madman.
He’d probably be better off coaching football...

But from what I recall, there's also this whole—I have no idea if this story is actually true, but it makes for a great tale.

That story is pretty legendary, and if you ask most NASCAR fans from that era, they swear it's the truth. I think even the mechanic's name is out there somewhere; if anyone actually wants the deep dive, I can go digging for more details.
Sadly, Andretti isn't around to get back into anything, football or racing, since he passed away from a heart attack a couple of years back...
Blue Öyster Cult in Music ·
I mean, if you want to get technical, even Blue Öyster Cult isn't really "metal"... If you look at their sound, there’s definitely some overlap, but the themes, the imagery, all that stuff? Not really. You're way more likely to run into a band playing Motörhead at a heavy metal show than you are to hear BÖC.

I actually didn't know that, but I'm glad to hear it, man. Honestly, it’s easily one of the best albums I’ve ever laid ears on. Even after listening to it for fifteen years, I still haven't gotten sick of it...

I'd much rather hold onto the good memories instead of dwelling on those two tragic Suzukis...

I still think Fidzan is incredible, honestly. In my book, he’s totally worthy of stepping into the shoes of that legendary original quartet... But hey, what can I say? I’m just part of that specific generation where Karl Marx and Sandokan show up in my dreams, and I know deep down I'll never actually sit down to write my memoirs... 😉

Wait, I don't get it... how would that even be any different from PBS?

ambermoose12 said:1996—he rolls up to Ferrari when they’re supposedly falling apart. (Actually, Ferrari had more wins in '96 than they did during the whole '91 to '95 stretch combined).
The car was pretty weak, yet MS still managed to snag three wins...

Look, back in '95, Ferrari was sitting at third in the standings. They were definitely behind the top two, but they weren't exactly a dumpster fire. Montezemolo and Todt were already on board and starting to get their act together. Schumacher showing up was a massive shot in the arm for the crew, especially since he actually knows how to work with engineers to develop a car. It’s just incredibly annoying hearing people push this fake narrative about how much of a mess things were at Ferrari... Like he walked into a Minardi or something.
Ferrari has always been a powerhouse, and yeah, like any big team, they hit rough patches now and then. One of the biggest was in the early nineties, but they were already bouncing back by the time MS arrived. He’s obviously a legend, and probably the most important piece of the puzzle that led to the dominance we saw later on, I won't deny that... but he isn't some wizard who conjured greatness out of thin air.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway is out :-(((((( in Formula 1 ·
Look, whenever they run out of actual things to talk about, those Americans just slap a headline on the front page about Indianapolis Motor Speedway dropping off the calendar, or some nonsense from Coulthard claiming next season belongs to him... Honestly, ever since I started following Formula 1, it's always been the same old story about Indy falling off the schedule... nothing to really worry about.

They finished 4th three different times. So, over 23 years, they were in the top three twenty times... seriously, just walk me through the logic here. By what standard is that not enough to be considered an elite team?

Dennis Baker34 said:Once MS finally moves on, Ferrari is just going to be another mediocre squad, exactly like they were before he showed up. Honestly, I couldn't care less who ends up losing behind the wheel of those red cars...😎

Look... any decent team from 1982 onwards hasn't really dipped below 4th in the constructors' standings. Sure, Ford might have a couple of rough seasons here and there, but they always find their way back to the top. Whether people want to admit it or not, Ford was winning long before Schumacher showed up. We're talking about fifty years of dominance... without any major breaks...

Look, I’m holding out hope for one specific name to pop up there—maybe... if things go a certain way. And that would be Valentino Rossi. If they pair him with one of those younger guys who actually has some NASCAR experience under their belt, it might work. For instance, if they could somehow buy out Button's contract from Williams by finding a loophole in that clause stating he's technically just a Benetton driver on loan to Toyota... you know, after that whole mess where he accidentally wandered into the McLaren garage during a Jordan testing session...
The Pogues in Music ·
For me, they were at their absolute peak when they started messing around on "Peace and Love." They really stepped outside the box—mixing in some jazz, classic rock, you name it. That record was just gorgeous... But obviously, the critics tore them apart and sales weren't exactly through the roof. It felt like they realized they’d been pigeonholed into that folk niche, and if they wanted to stay relevant, they couldn't stray too far from what people expected. They can flirt with different ethnic sounds here and there, sure, but they seemed terrified of touching anything "commercial." I don't know, looking back, everything after that feels a bit like they were selling out, even if there were some decent moments mixed in. It’s always a damn shame when it happens to a punk band, even one as much of a folk-punk outfit as this...
All in all, they're a great band, but I can't shake the feeling they never quite hit their full potential. They could have done so much more than they actually did.
Look, I get why people freak out over caffeine, but I honestly don't get how it's hitting me like this. I've been drinking coffee for decades without an issue, and then suddenly—out of nowhere—my body decides to have this total crap... excuse me, this intense reaction... 😕 It’s not even the caffeine itself, really. I mean, sure, I’ll be more careful and probably cut back, but what really gets to me is just trying to wrap my head around why my system is suddenly acting up like this...
Lately, I’ve been noticing that my daily routine is starting to cause me some serious grief. Every morning before heading into the office, I’ll grab a quick cup of black coffee. Then later on, usually with lunch, I’ll have a latte or something with milk. It never used to be an issue, but now, almost every single time—within like thirty to sixty minutes of drinking it—I’m sprinting to the restroom. It gets pretty awkward, honestly. Especially after the coffee with milk; then things get intense, and I have to react fast or face the consequences...

The whole point is that this hit me out of nowhere. A couple of months ago, I was fine, but now it’s happening constantly. I’m wondering if the laxative effect from caffeine is just some psychological thing in my head, or if there’s an actual physical reason behind it? Or maybe my body is just trying to tell me that I’ve gone overboard with all the ways I'm basically wrecking my system. Like: go work out, you idiot, instead of sitting around sipping caffeine all day!

Man, I still hold both Propaganda and Indiscreet pretty close to my heart, and honestly, even Introducing Sparks has some killer moments... though it’s a far cry from that Moroder era. That said, Kimono My House is hands down in a league of its own. One of these days, I'll sit down and write out the whole story of how that album basically gave me my life back during the darkest stretch I've ever had to deal with...

Yeah, sure. I start a thread about Sparks and get exactly one reply... 😢 Which two? Are we talking Halfnelson or after they changed their name?
Who is your favorite Glam Rock band? in Music ·
If people think Sparks belongs under the Glam Rock umbrella, I’ve gotta disagree—but if they do, then they’re easily number one. Then you’ve got the unmistakable stuff, like Duran Duran... And as for those eighties acts, whether it's the preppy Sweet/Slade types or whatever metal crowd, there’s really no debate here: neither of them were any good.
Best deli meats? in Movies ·
Yeah... this was one of those movies from my childhood. Just rewatched it after more than twenty years. I knew it wasn't going to be some massive cinematic masterpiece, but honestly, it didn't disappoint. It’s just solid fun—Marilyn Monroe looking incredible, and that forgotten Harry Nilsson track on the soundtrack...
Anyone else seen this? Also, while I was watching, I started picturing a modern remake directed by someone like Michael Moore. Instead of the old vibe, you'd have a Frenchwoman trying to smuggle a huge jar of pâté into the USA, but instead of that breezy 70s feel, it would be replaced by all this paranoia about terrorism and other modern bullshit. Could actually be a pretty decent flick.
