I absolutely had to find out what "In-a-gadda-da-vida" sounds like while tripping... I mean, that’s literally why the track exists. It sounds perfect. It doesn't just feel eighteen minutes long; it feels like hours, and honestly, every single second is pure gold.

But then again, it sounds just as perfect sober. Unless I somehow manage to become a permanent resident of a dream state, that experience is probably going to be a one-time thing for me.

The best: Cul de Sac

The absolute worst: Minit (free entry, basically pay-to-play vibes)...

Still, I’m leaning towards the idea that Hasil Adkins was actually the first one...

Same story here. I dig both sides of the coin, but then there are certain guys from one group and certain ones from the other that just don't do it for me... I honestly can't make up my mind.

So, I was just sitting here thinking how wild it would be if there was some Inuit band out there playing Eagles covers using nothing but traditional folk instruments. They’d have to call themselves The Igloos, obviously. Their greatest hits? Probably stuff like Hotel California and New Kid in Town...

I mean, some people in here really do write the most ridiculous nonsense when they're supposed to be discussing serious topics... 🙂

I don't get why everyone is getting so worked up over this whole "is it country or isn't it" debate. Even the Eagles never had a problem being lumped into that hybrid bucket called country-rock. That’s still a solid way to define them, even if most great bands—including them—always end up blowing past any single category people try to trap them in. But hey, just so I don't look like I have no clue what I'm talking about, here is how AllMusic defines the genre:

Essentially, Country-Rock is rock bands playing country music. It is country music informed by rock's counterculture ideals, as well as its reliance on loud amplification, prominent backbeat, and pop melodies. The first country-rock bands — the Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons, the Byrds, Neil Young — played straight country , as inspired by the Bakersfield sound of Merle Haggard and Buck Owens, as well as honky tonkers like Hank Williams. As the genre moved into the '70s, the rougher edges were smoothed out as the Eagles, Poco, Pure Prairie League, and Linda Ronstadt made Music that was smoother and more laid-back. This became the predominant sound of country-rock in the '70s. In the late '80s, a small group of alternative rock bands began to revive the spartan sound of the original sound of Parsons and Young.

Man, I could really go for a record right now. Haven't spun my favorite in ages... Witchy Woman... Anyway, I stumbled upon some news article a few years back claiming that nowadays, with all these CD reissues and everything, the best-selling album of all time isn't actually Jacksonov's Thriller anymore, but instead the Greatest Hits Eagles... 😕 Does anyone here actually know anything about that?

If I hadn't already seen them a few months back in some half-dead, reanimated state where they totally grossed me out...
kill fuckin Handsome Dick ASshole Manitoba!🙂

I actually thought they were pretty killer... Except for when Manitoba was on stage, which, yeah, let's be real...
Anyone want to talk about Steppenwolf : Pusher or maybe Magic Carpet Ride?
Bajaga and those šaren pilula vibes 😁 ili znati čovek
Just some half-remembered stuff from those early film albums...
Why am I suddenly thinking back to that one time on the radio? It was at such a perfect moment, too... they played 😳 "Magic Bus" followed immediately by 😁 "boja biti u mi"

The internet has absolutely ruined my brain, honestly, even more than rock and roll did.

Look, having known Billie for years, way before she started leaning into that whole reputation, believe me when I say your train of thought is just hilarious...

The more I listen to them, the less I feel like actually showing up to the show... It’s just not really my vibe, honestly. Might be a bit too much for me. But hey, I'm definitely tuning in today regardless!

Don't go making a mistake you'll regret! Photos don't capture... well... the sheer emotional intensity of watching Thermals live. For me, thanks to picking a killer spot, it wasn't even just about hearing Mike Watt... I spent most of the set just watching how the Thermals bassist stares at the stage... 😁

Anyway, I finally cleared some space on my playlist to see if I actually dig enough Dirtbombs to justify driving all the way out to the venue. Gonna go blast them now.
No Battleship Potemkin? No D.W. Griffith? I don't think I've even seen anything by Carl Theodor Dreyer. And what about Father Jacques? Is he really not significant or influential enough to crack the top hundred? Citizen Kane made the cut, but Amberson's Grandeur didn't? Honestly, I have no clue what this list is actually measuring. If we're talking pure influence or how many movies were inspired by a certain work, they might as well have just stuffed the whole thing with flicks like Rambo or Smokey Bear... 😁
A little bit of stats ;) in Formula 1 ·
mistybear87 said:Michael Schumacher overtook these drivers:

10 Juan Pablo Montoya
7 David Coulthard
6 Rubens Barrichello
4 Damon Hill
3 Mika Häkkinen, Eddie Irvine
2 Giancarlo Fisichella, Ralf Schumacher
1 Jean Alesi, Fernando Alonso, Gerhard Berger, Jenson Button, Olivier Panis, Kimi Räikkönen, Jacques Villeneuve

Look, I don't care where you pulled those stats from, they aren't right—or at least they're definitely not complete. I mean, pretty much everyone remembers, or has at least heard about, that first lap at Indianapolis 1993, where MS was one of the guys caught in Ayrton Senna's wake. And yet, Senna isn't even on this list... Not that I'm going out of my way to fact-check the whole thing, but it just goes to show this list was put together pretty sloppily...
Honestly, every time I spot a Wartburg sedan cruising down the street, I can't help but start humming those heavy lyrics from the song... it's practically a reflex at this point.

This new one? Not even close. 👎

Look, I usually can't stand John Carpenter's stuff, but I'll give him credit for this one...

The original was absolute fire, but I honestly have no clue what to make of this new one.
I remember this one time I was on a bus heading from San Francisco to some coastal spot, and the driver spent the entire trip blasting Edith Piaf. Honestly, it felt like he was doing it just to mess with everyone else on board. I never ran into that guy again, unfortunately. But then there was this other driver who played nothing but Duo Pegla the whole way—may he be cursed for seven generations... though, both of those stories go back to the eighties. Nowadays, it’s all NPR. On that specific route, though, the drivers are usually pretty local-minded, so at least half the time we end up listening to KEXP.
Best vinyl shops in Washington, D.C.? in Music ·
Hmmm... I gotta admit, I haven't actually stepped foot in a record store in months. Ever since I set up a permanent digital setup at home, MP3s have basically taken over my life... But man, the best CD shops back in the day—and as far as I know, still are—were Free Bird over on Broadway and Good Sound over on Main Street.
Sarah Thompson61 said:You're probably right. It's all about the rebellion, the whole alternative thing...

Back in the day, being part of the alternative scene meant you didn't hang out at the local Saloon and you definitely weren't some preppy poser. Nowadays? It’s clearly just full of mainstream wannabes. Everything is completely backwards. *Sigh*...

Just picture this: fifteen or maybe twenty years ago, what did an alternative enthusiast even look like? You’d see them decked out in head-to-toe black, just hanging out and sipping something in the little park right in front of Apple...

And today—she’s rocking those tiny thong panties, a gold chain around her waist she probably picked up at a flea market, a pink top with a cleavage that’s just... wow. She did a quick 20-minute tanning session, slapped on some pink lipstick, and went heavy with the blue eyeshadow—it looks like a literal punch to the eye. Plus, she's got about five centimeters of dark roots showing through. It’s basically a mix of Celine Dion and Jay - Alternative Girl for the modern era...😕

You've managed to find the one single silver lining in that whole mess... 😁
