Michael Newman50 said:I’d much rather look at pictures from a concert🙈 <--not because I'm a cheapskate, but because it's basically just a drum beating on Spunk Lale the Killer's head😉

The head was honestly the least entertaining part. 🤣 The best bit was that phase where you could only see his hands sticking out, and they looked all weirdly twisted... 😁
The ultimate cassette player... 😍

But man, that set at Spunk tonight was absolutely insane. No contest. 🙏 🙏 🙏

The touring guys in the band seriously deserve a permanent spot on the lineup... 😍 If you don't think the regular moderator's dance moves while playing a broken drum kit should be part of the official choreography, then you're clearly in the wrong business. 🤣

Back to the point at hand... I had to dig deep to find it, but this whole thread actually inspired me to write that blog about Cohen back in the day... 😁

Yeah, those giveaway contests hit the jackpot perfectly... 🙂 Two incredible shows in just a few days, and I didn't spend a single dime.

I remember, even though Hallelujah blew me away, the absolute peak of the night—almost felt like a religious experience—was when Cale decided to throw Frozen Warnings into the setlist. 😍 I seriously didn't see that coming. And then Over Her Head... Man, it was stunning.

But honestly, none of it could quite touch the sheer intensity of Lazy during the Byrne concert. Those ten or fifteen minutes of pure, frantic rhythm... it felt like—and I know this might sound sacrilegious to write out like this—but it felt like Byrne had finally stumbled upon that ultimate, hypnotic groove he’d been chasing since his days with Talking Heads. 🙂

Actually, it was just as hypnotic as the stuff those other two icons nailed so effortlessly on the first Tom Club album. 😉

You people are out of your minds!
Elvis Presley can hit his wife, drive drunk, or go wild in cemeteries... he can do whatever he wants because it’s all just "artistic inspiration." His bohemian soul needs to feed on that raw passion just so he can churn out hits like "Bitch," "Pucko," or "Estrada." He’s an Artist, which means the standard rules for regular people don't apply to him. 🙂 If his partner can't handle a few years of his nonsense just to help him write even better songs—if that's even possible—then what kind of low-life, shameless woman are we even talking about here? 👎

I'm kidding, obviously, but seriously, if everything goes according to plan 🙂 and Muddy Waters can actually pull off a concert in New York City sometime soon, then please, stop giving money to any activist groups that might try to protest Elvis Presley. Jerk or not, the guy leads one of the best rock bands America has ever seen, and I want—no, I *need*—to see them live at least once without all the drama. 🙂

Ashley Smith5 said:There are actually two covers that I dig more than the original—R.E.M.'s "First we take Manhattan" 🙏 and Concrete Blonde's "Everybody Knows"... honestly, there might be even more out there.

😍 😍 😍
I don't know the second one (though I think I heard a killer cover of it recently), but...
To be honest, I'm not really a huge R.E.M. fan.
I absolutely love the original version of this track.
But yeah, they definitely managed to nail it even better than Cohen himself, and for me, it’s probably the most convincing recording of their entire career (maybe tied with a live one with Billy Bragg...), so yeah.

Look, I know what works. 😉 My brother Robert feels the same way too... 🙄

I was handsome, I was strong
I knew the words of every song
But did I please them? No,
The words they sang were wrong!

When I said our partnership wouldn't last much longer due to "objective reasons," I was honestly just venting because I was pissed off at what Goran wrote on another forum. He decided to air out some private business regarding his relationship with Mladen Jergović, and in that moment, it felt like splitting up might actually be the best move. Even though, personally—and as an editor—I’ve been really happy with those columns covering historical stuff, especially that one about NASCAR in the Appalachian Mountains and the whole story about Hunta and robot-controlled Formula 1...

Anyway, we’ve reached an agreement. Moving forward, Black Flag will truly focus more on those historical deep dives, and the drama between Dijaković-Jergović won't be mentioned in the magazine ever again, regardless of the context. That's the second and only condition for keeping the column alive in the mag. So, I want to publicly apologize to Goran Dijaković. My previous comment could have easily been taken as an official editorial decision to axe the column, but it was really just my own heated opinion in a moment of frustration. It was triggered by the way dirty laundry was being tossed around publicly—first in the magazine through a messy address to some unrefined readers, and then here on the forum...

Goran has apologized for the way he spoke, and I’m apologizing to him now for the same reasons. I’m hoping we can all just work together peacefully and do good things for the slim little niche that is Formula 1 media coverage in America.

Sandra Chase16 said:Hey, give my regards to that guy from Poughkeepsie... tell him I'll get those DVDs back to him eventually... maybe one of these days...

That concert was honestly kind of a letdown... I think I would've had a better time just sleeping through it at home...

I’m actually sitting just a tiny bit ahead of Prince myself, though if you ask me, the sweet spot for Billings would be somewhere right in the middle between him and NPR...

Even if things were fun and went well—man, they really did...

rustymaker60 said:Tonight's highlight—our dear little baby member is finally back on his feet... 😍👋

I'm totally with you on that. Honestly, it made my day when I heard they were over there... 👍
Man, I’m bummed I missed him. I was actually looking for him right after everything wrapped up... is there anywhere else I can go to show some respect?...

Zachary Bishop82 said:The vibe here is absolutely electric tonight. Just downed my first beer after being stuck on a month-long round of antibiotics... finally feeling human again...
Consider me officially volunteered for any future drinking sessions being planned... I'm in.🙂

How on earth did I miss you?... 🤔 Don't sweat it, we'll let you know about the drunk one...

It was a blast. 🙂
And honestly, watching Jura constantly aim that mic stand at the other band members like he’s hunting them down... 😁

Wild man was my favorite, and always will be 🙂 but seriously, you guys could've played him earlier while Alex Scott22 was still actually at the show, instead of waiting until the WCIF crew were already heading toward their spot to play.

A massive drinking session is definitely happening one of these next weekends. 👋

I honestly don't think the partnership between NASCAR and Johnson is going to hold up much longer, but let's be real—that's more on the publisher's side than the editor's...

As for Windsor, I’m sticking to what I said in the last editorial. Look, I don't agree with him, but I respect his work too much to just go around cutting or swapping out his pieces...

The issue with this issue being late is just the end-of-season madness and how jammed up the print shop gets whenever we drift from our usual schedule. Plus, there was zero point in having us sitting on newsstands for a whole month when the season finale was basically right around the corner anyway.

Andrew Vaughn34 said:Since this tour is basically their greatest hits, we can pretty much expect all the big anthems

👋 I had no clue. If that's the case, this is hands down the most anticipated show of the fall, period.
The last time they played was killer and all, but man... I swear I could just close my eyes, lose myself in the beat, and completely drift away just listening to Dark Companion...

lonecobra81 said:I stumbled onto their "In a manner of speaking" track totally by accident once, and honestly, just based on that one song, I’d go to their show. It's such a killer track. But what do you think... do they just not play the old stuff anymore, or does this new material actually hit the spot for them too? (🙂 tell me yes, please say yes, 🙂 )?

Hard to say. But don't sweat it—just grab their newer albums. They've been an absolutely top-tier band for like thirty years straight now... 🙂
