Windows 10 security? in IT Support ·
I’ve been using Norton for ages now—honestly, I can't even remember when I started—and I couldn't be happier with it. I recently found myself upgrading to Windows 10 Home after messing around with some settings on my old Windows 7 setup, and while the transition left my computer feeling a bit stripped down, I’m not sure if Windows Defender is what's causing that. Regardless, Norton doesn't bother me at all; in fact, if I'm trying to run a specific installer and it gives me any trouble, I just disable it for about ten minutes and everything works perfectly fine. When I run a cleanup, it catches everything, even flagging outdated files. I actually have Norton installed on my phone and my tablet as well...

As far as your computer's speed goes, I really don't think Norton is the culprit; it’s much more likely that the hardware is just getting older or perhaps you have too many processes running in the background at once...

Now, if you were strictly using your machine for typing things up in Microsoft Word, I might suggest moving away from it, but since you're browsing the web, I wouldn't dream of recommending you go without protection. It’s always better to have an extra layer of security than nothing at all (assuming that Windows Defender is even active)

Anyway, that’s just my personal take based on my own experience with Norton...
Thanks so much, everyone... I finally got it sorted out!
Hi there... everything is pretty much laid out in the title, I suppose... I just wanted to add that even when I tried accessing the Synaptics trackpad control panel through the designated Device Manager, nothing would open, and honestly, none of the other software I tried seemed to help at all... To make matters worse, I don't have a physical button to just toggle it off, and when I checked the official Synaptics website, I couldn't find any compatible drivers listed... If anyone could offer a bit of advice or a way forward, I would truly appreciate it...
Thank you so much in advance....

PS: I'm using an HP laptop.

Okay, if I'm following you correctly, I would be able to access all my data through that other laptop and then transfer everything over to a USB stick...
I'm sorry, I just haven't ever had to do anything like this before, so I figured I'd ask...

But how am I even supposed to get into the computer in the first place? I'm worried I won't even be able to boot up enough to make that happen...

I’m not entirely sure if this is the right place to vent, but I am having a massive headache with my laptop and I feel completely stuck... Basically, yesterday evening things just started acting weird; my desktop icons were all skewed and most of my windows looked totally distorted. After some digging, I realized I had two Intel(r) HD graphics 5 drivers active, so I tried disabling one of them thinking that was the culprit, but man, was I wrong. Now, I can't even get into Windows 7. It gets to the Windows startup screen and just hangs there indefinitely. It actually tried to run through the Channing disk repair process a couple of times, but then it just throws an error message along the lines of "no program found" or something similar... I've spent all last night and basically this entire day scouring the internet for fixes—trying things like messing with the BIOS and attempting Safe Mode—but nothing seems to touch the problem. Sometimes I can hear the hardware running, but the screen stays completely black. Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on?
It's an HP, about a year and a half old, though I've only had it for about a year myself.

If I could just manage to log in, I think I could fix everything from the inside... But honestly, I'm terrified—is there any chance my files will be wiped out? I'm really worried because I can't back them up to a USB drive or anything else right now, and I have a lot of really important documents sitting on there...

If I end up taking this to a repair shop, is a full reinstallation absolutely necessary??
🙂 Please, someone tell me I won't lose all my data...

Seriously, any bit of advice or even just a suggestion would mean the world to me right now...
