Good grief, the moment you started praising De Niro and claiming Nicholson was playing catch-up with his trophy count, you missed the mark—don't you realize Nicholson actually has twice as many awards as De Niro?
Let’s get real: if any of these guys owned a decade, it was Nicholson, About Schmidt(what a transformation, 🙏), The Departed, The Bucket List, plus solid turns in Pledge and Something's Gotta Give
And since we’re talking eras, I’d argue Nicholson and Pacino were at their absolute peak during the best decade of all, the '70s—though personally, I think Nicholson had the edge back then... and honestly, he was often bigger than the movies themselves...
Pacino definitely isn't living in De Niro's shadow; the two of them just constantly get lumped together because they both dominated the crime genre, which is so popular that kids end up obsessing over them as idols...
But I have to admit, De Niro has been making a bad movie today (okay, maybe not *that* bad) lately; in fact, his last truly great performance was in Heat alongside Pacino, but if we're talking about which of the remaining legends is still putting in the work, I'm putting my money on Nicholson...
Kate Harris4 said:Well, I’m saying it right back to you, because if I don't prove my point, then your criticism doesn't actually mean anything.
It’s basic logic—if I tell you that you don't know the first thing about basketball, for example, I have to back it up. Otherwise, who’s to say I wasn't just talking trash to sound smart when you might actually know more than me? You get what I'm saying?
How do you even know my poll is bad? I don't buy it. Honestly, I doubt you even know the classics from the '50s, let alone how to put together a list of 150 titles like I did. I can throw that in your face any day of the week, and you won't be able to argue unless you come back with a better poll of your own to prove me wrong. Capisce?
Oh, give me a break, stop talking nonsense. So according to you, whenever someone offers a critique, they're obligated to go out and make their own poll? What kind of ridiculous logic is that? Before me, plenty of people on this forum critiqued other polls, and were they all supposed to drop everything and start their own projects too? Come on, settle down. As far as I'm concerned, we settled this a long time ago; I said what I said, and it stands, so believe whatever you want.🙂
Kate Harris4 said:If you want proof that it sucks, go ahead—make a better one and say: "See, Kate, this is how a real poll works, not like that mess you made." And then I'll respond: "Bravo, Donna, I have to admit you actually put in the work and created a survey that actually represents the films from the 1950s and before." 😛
You asking why?! Because you're just barking at nothing.
🤣🤣🤣 in your face monkeyboy 😂
I can see right through people, and it's obvious you're feeding off 🤣 🤣 😂 just to feel some sense of superiority, thinking you've somehow managed to belittle someone else—honestly, I salute you...
Let me repeat myself: why on earth would I bother making a survey? I simply stated that this particular poll of yours—and there were several others—wasn't any good, and that's just criticism, nothing more; don't take it so personally, since it's clearly you don't know how to handle a bit of feedback, and besides, I'm certainly not the only one who has told you so. Again, I'm not trying to be malicious, this is just my opinion and that's that, so go ahead and keep feeding on 🤣 😂
Kate Harris4 said:Oh, you're *really* interested? Hahaha. That's the easy part—just sit there and study everyone else's work instead of actually stepping up and doing something yourself. 🤣
Think you know better? 🤷 Fine then, why don't you run a poll on '50s films so we can all see what a "master" you are? Let's see how much you actually know. It's easy to talk a big game behind a keyboard, but show us through your own work. If you really do know more than me, prove it—don't just shout into the void.
Personally, I wasn't a fan of hollowsailor19's "Best Film" poll because it missed way too many titles. I told him I’ve already got a similar one in the works, but mine will have at least 600 entries. A project like that is a massive undertaking—it'll take me half a day just to get it finished properly.
It wasn't just me who said it; a few other people above mentioned it too. All I said was that, in my opinion, the poll isn't all that great, and if you can't handle a little criticism, well, that's on you. Why would I bother making a poll? I'm here to vote, and if I feel like putting one together, I will, but not right now. What matters is that you🤣 So much...
But hey, it’s fine if you choose to forget all over again that Spencer Tracy actually starred in Dr. Jekyll and mr. Hyde, but I guess that’s just your thing, isn't it?🙂
Speaking for the first installment, which is absolute perfection—it features one of the best villains ever and that final scene is 🙏
Right on its heels comes the second part, which also boasts an incredible ending, so I’d rank the fourth one next, followed by the third, which isn't bad at all, but still...
Anyway... alongside Lethal Weapon, it's easily the greatest action franchise out there.
Aside from the Die Hard series, this is my absolute favorite action franchise; you just don't see movies made like this anymore—they're actually great, they're fun, and honestly, I could probably watch them on a loop forever.
If I had to pick, I’d go with the first one, especially that final scene🙏)
briskhound2 said:Thanks for remembering. 😁 I remember that one, but honestly, *Cell* feels much closer to what we were discussing in the poll because it’s basically a massive tribute to those classics... the world goes insane, everyone turns into zombies, and a small group of regular people just tries to survive the chaos. Word on the street is that it might get adapted into a limited series soon, but I can't help but think it would be way better if King teamed up with Romero again to do it right. I mean, how much could two legends of the horror genre actually mess up?
I really hope they don't blow it, because this could actually be something special. If they pull off that mini-series format you mentioned—and if the quality hits the level of The Stand—then I'll be more than happy.😉
For me, nothing beats the 1978 version of Dawn of the Dead, so that’s my vote right there.
If we’re really doing this, shouldn't we be including both the original Night of the Living Dead and the Dawn of the Dead remake?
Oh, and honestly? I'll take Romero over Carpenter any day of the week. Plus, you totally glossed over the fact that King actually adapted those great flicks like Creepshow—another killer poll if you ask me.👍

I don't know, maybe that "Trilogy Meter" just bases its whole argument on how much each individual movie pulls in? Like, they look at the first one, then the second, then the third, see the earnings, and boom—there's your "meter."
Go ahead and look up the box office numbers for The Godfather trilogy online, and then we can actually get a clearer picture of what's going on here.
I only put that there so the trilogies would be visible.
Nathan Rodriguez3 said:Am I writing in invisible ink here? I didn't realize my computer came equipped with stealth technology. Maybe try actually reading my previous post first, where I laid everything out clearly for you...
In that case, you might want to actually digest what I wrote since I already told you👍 I'm just explaining why The Godfather Part III wouldn't even be the worst third installment in that poll—though if you ask me, it definitely is. I've already mentioned Batman, Superman, and Jaws, but at least those are fun enough to watch more than once, whereas the third Godfather movie is just painfully boring. Don't act surprised; just bite the bullet and read it.
Nathan Rodriguez3 said:Man, something isn't adding up here. If we're assuming blue is better and white is worse, then according to this chart, the third Godfather movie is the absolute worst of the trilogy, which is just plain ridiculous. Where on earth did you dig that up? Ah—Danmeth.com, I see how it is...
If I'm following your logic, you're baffled by how the third Godfather installment could be the weakest link, right? Well, if the first two are masterpieces and the third is just mediocre—or if you mean it's literally the lowest-rated in the survey—then why shouldn't it be? Personally, I’d put Batman, Superman, and Jaws ahead of the third Godfather any day, though those aren't even massive leaps compared to the brilliance of the first two. At the end of the day, everyone's entitled to an opinion, but just because a movie has "Godfather" in the title doesn't mean it's automatically sacred. Not that I'm surprised, though; I know plenty of people who insist on ranking the Godfather among their top five all-time greats without even having seen them, acting like they haven't totally embarrassed themselves in the process... that's what I call absurd. What actually amuses me, though, is seeing Back to the Future and Alien crowned as the best trilogies; sure, Lord of the Rings is leading the pack here, which makes sense for a forum poll, but the fact that BTTF and Alien are right there on its heels gives the whole thing much more credibility for me.👍
I’m on the same page as Anthony Smith3 that the Blade trilogy is the superior series, though I have to say Underworld is a pretty decent franchise in its own right.
Kate Harris4, you’re constantly tearing people down like a literal child; can we please get some maturity here? You don't have to agree with everyone, but there's absolutely no need to be a jerk about it.
Paul James62 said:So what does the release date actually matter?! 😂🤣 Let me try to break this down for you: Imagine if Rob Zombie shot Halloween in 2007, the sequel in 2010, and then a third one way out in 2047. If you run a poll in 2048 asking "Which of these two Halloween films is better?" and you just ignore the third one because it came out so much later, well, that's not how logic works, right? Why on earth wouldn't you count that third installment? You get what I'm saying?
I cast my votes for these trilogies: Back to the Future The Godfather The Lord of the Rings - I totally blanked on voting for the Original Trilogy, though the newer stuff is alright too.
There are plenty of movies listed here that aren't even trilogies but are actually quadrilogies, like: Alien, X-Men, Terminator... all of those have four sequels, not three, so why are they even in a trilogy poll? It’s pretty obvious they don't fit the definition. 😕
Now I'm digging through a list of actual trilogies just to see what counts, because even though Alien is technically a quadrilogy, people still lump it in under the trilogy umbrella.
Joshua Taylor3 said:In my book, Alien, Back to the Future, and Star Wars—if you count it as such—are all superior, and while LOTR is great, it’s just not the best trilogy out there; if we really want to settle on which one takes the crown, we should probably just start a poll, right? Who’s in? That would be the way to go.
I might have to side with him there, because for me, Alien is hands down the best trilogy since the first two are absolute masterpieces and even the third one holds its own, plus isn't Back to the Future one of those movies you can just watch over and over again without ever getting bored?😉
